what defines this as a townhome? I always thought townhomes shared walls with the townhomes next to them but I could be way off
@sbsb1475 ай бұрын
i agree shared walls are one of the defining features. In reality you would sacrifice interior sq footage using the z design replacing it with the marvelous view of your neighbor(s) brick wall.

As much as I love the extra sunlight and airflow, I'm worried about rainwater getting into everything, and about the massive ineffeciency of air conditionning or heating for the days when the airflow isn't enough.

Yea, moisture, bugs, fumes and smells from the outside are a major issue. I just think that you learn to live with it.

It is a good solution only if the local norms allow to have such a tight spaces to get light.

they did not lose the outdoor space: they are in Vietnam, not in Chicago = they live outside all year long (when it does not rain), the courtyard is part of the home in a functional way.

Bugs?
@Moochers5 ай бұрын
Bugs are definitely going to be enjoying the interior architecture. I'm in the US so AC is pretty much a must. When I've traveled to other countries where AC is not a thing and you rely on natural ventilation, you kind of just get used to living with bugs. Natural ventilation is usually done in the common areas of these kinds of homes. Bedrooms usually have their own zones which limits the bugs in those spaces.

@@Moochers been to Falling Water. Frank Loyd Wright was also a fan of natural. Didn’t even have bug screens till later additions postmortem I believe
