A snapshot of history uncovered as it was left when the people involved left/fled/died. This is incredible after nearly 80 years.

That box was an airtight ammo crate. And as someone mentioned the dreifrucht marmelade is dried fruit jam.

I'm always amazed at how well preserved these finds are. Of course Gulag time would have awaited anyone doing this post WW2 in Soviet times. Could have equipped a small army .

Are the areas being searched state, or federal lands? The reason I ask is that in the intro it's mentioned that these areas have not been visited since the war?

something not significant is usually left for a long memory. The rest is either auctioned or given to museums. But sometimes there are marked personal items on items that can be found either by the owner of the items, or by the relatives of the soldier who are looking in search of this or that thing. Then they call up and if they are not against personal belongings and weapons with ammunition are transferred to them. If relatives do not want to take the remains and things, then carry out burial in a Russian or German memorial cemetery with the installation of a memorial stone or cross, if the warrior was a Christian. Personal belongings and awards in this case are buried with the soldier.

You have a magnificent and rewarding hobby which contributes to history. Thank you for your work and for bringing this interesting subject to KZbin. I hope all of your future discoveries can continue to be rewarding, and the exercise beneficial! I imagine the digging to be difficult and laborious, but at the same time, each day is a different adventure. Carry on the great work. Thank you!

They disturbed the undisturbed graves of 80 year old battle sites. So, these historical finds are likely responsible for the start of the Moscow versus Kyiv war of 2022. The spirits of the dead were likely resting in peace near battle sites. Digging such sites brought bad luck for such lands, likely.
