Julian explains why the backswing is so important and most importantly fix one of the most common faults in golf, taking the club on the inside too quickly is really bad and moving it on plane will change the way you strike the ball forever.

@@JulianMellor My bad habit is to move away from the ball with my hands and arms moving too quickly, separating from the body. I’ve heard other methods to combat this but your tip seems more effective! Thx for your posts…I enjoy them.

Excellent Julian. For me the most useful of all your tips as I struggle with this particular aspect of my game. Please keep up the good work, yours are the best instructional videos I have found and believe me I have looked at many. Also the prefect length, not too long to be distracted from the point you are making. Keep up the good work, you are really improving my comprehension of the fundamentals of the golf swing. A sincere thank you.

I have stuck with this for a month to see if it would be a flash in the pan or a definite improvement and I'm happy to say its most definitely the latter. I'd been concentrating on left shoulder down and trying to get as much shoulder turn as possible. But its become clear that I can't get shoulder turn unless the right side is moved out of the way. I basically was forgetting about everything below the shoulders. Once I got this butt of the club pointing at the belly button scenario the improvement was startling. Was out Monday and had as good a day driving the ball as I can remember. Also, ensuring the whole torso and hip turns away means the left heel lifts naturally. A great tip Julian and a permanent fix for me. Thank you.

Julian, congratulations on the fantastic new website, and many thanks to you and Jo for keeping us posted during the recent difficult times. I have been in and out on easiest swing several times. Frankly I thought it had gotten a tad stale, in fact I never looked at anything but your videos. I understand the basics, but now you have opened up so much more, I am back and I am staying! I have watched your takeaway video many, many times, but caught something today. You mentioned the thumb is on too of the shaft, is that correct, and which hand? I tried it today with my top hand and it amazing how it shaped the ball flight. Many thanks, Tom Baldwin Ocala Florida.

Many thanks for this, Julian. Although I knew there was something wrong with my swing at least I was sure it wasn't in the position of my hands and wrists in the backswing turn, but your simple exercise demonstrated to me I was quite wrong and that was exactly my problem. Once corrected I was happily striking ball after ball easily and cleanly. Hopefully, I can take this to the course and perhaps your bigger prediction that it will change my life will also be proved to be correct! Thanks again.

Awesome. Been practising for over a year now trying to teach myself in the garden. I've tried every way possible and it's hit and miss. Just tried this with a smooth swing (I usually swing fast) and all I did was think about turning as a unit and folding trail elbow then just go back through again. Granted it won't hit it miles but all I wanted was a swing that can maybe hit 150yards without slicing every shot so I can play on a course again after 20 years away. You nailed it sir. Thanks very much and all the best with the new channel 👍🏌️

I watched your swing in slo motion in another video and it looks like you’re rolling your forearms a bit and that the club is slunged before the body in the backswing… And I think that’s a natural movement if we shall keep the club as a slinging object and have those loose wrists, I think it’s almost necessary to do this to avoid being to static and robotic and risk to lose that clubhead speed. What do you think?

Hi Julian, many thanks for your excellent videos, there are really helpful. One question concerning your left wrist at the top of the backswing: it seemed to be flat. Mine is cupped, when I swing back relaxed as possible. When I tried to flatten ist, tension occurs in the upper left Arm. Would be great if you have chance to share your thoughts about this.

Hi Julian, I notice that when your club in at waist height on the backswing, the toe is pointing straight up at the sky. Do you recommend to have the toe pointing forward or what I call it slightly closed at that stage? I don’t suffer from a slice or push but rather more of a hook.
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
If you do hook the balll Rich then it will help for sure. I find that I really need to manage my body turn if I use the stronger clubface

@@JulianMellor so play with the toe upright (not closed) as I see in your video and attempt to make a complete turn through the ball. I am suffering from a lower sore back at the moment that appeared the day after my last game. Probably due to a lot of exertion in try to get distance. Definitely not good for my 75+ yo body. Thanks for the quick reply. Love all of your videos from the days with Brian until your present one’s.👍👨‍🦳🇨🇦

Morning sir. You're in good company on this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epW6hKh7dr6rbpo I had been following your method with good results and then it all started to fall apart. I ended up moving back to an old swing pattern I used to use but that wasn't working either. My issue was I was lifting my left heel, not because my turn necessitated it but because I felt that I had to do it. The ball striking was way off. Then I saw this and in an instant I knew my problem. My hips/lower half weren't turning. It was all arms and shoulders. Watched this last Friday and took it onto the course and made myself keep the butt of the club pointing at my stomach as long as I could. I actually started my backswing by starting to turn my stomach and letting the club follow. Fantastic round! Hit it really well and got some of my length back too. Still had a few nightmare holes but that was more to do with short game and putting but the ball striking was as good as its been for a long time. Thanks again.

@@JulianMellor From all the years of self taught golf, lessons, KZbin videos, online lessons, books and unhelpful mates, no one, not one person has said that “full” speed should be at the bottom of the swing (ie at the ball) or just after. You mentioned it in a video I watch yesterday and it has resonated with me. And what a difference!!! As a kinaesthetic learner, it takes me a bit of time to catch on, but I truely appreciate this gem (and many others) that you share. Thanks Julian, golf is very important to me and playing as best I can fulfils a personal desire.

Yeah people do all these "faults" you are showing in the back swing because they are just focused on hitting AT the ball. When the ball is your target your body is doing exactly what your brain is asking it to.
