No shade towards Taylor Swift, but when she won Album of the Year in 2024, the Grammys lost all credibility. It was one of the weakest albums in that category. If we are being completely objective , the rightful winner that night should have been SZA for S.O.S. It was a critical and commercial success. But then again, the Grammys still have a racial and genre bias. Other artists like Frank Ocean, The Weekend, Kanke West, Mariah Carey, and especially Kendrick Lamar should HAVE ALREADY WON at least ONCE the AOTY award. It's also hard for Hip hop and/or R&B to win in the Record/ Song of the year categories. I think the last time this was achieved was by H.E.R, and before that, Childish Gambino. ( This is America). Lizzo won recently, but it was for a pop song. To be fair , it is more hopeful in the Best New Artists category. Past winners include Victoria Monet, Samara Joy, Chance the Rapper, Meg the Stallion, etc. And these are all recent winners. I highly doubt Taylor Swift will win again ( it would be overkill). If Beyoncé, by some miracle, finally wins in that category, it will most definitely create major buzz all over the internet. In addition, it might be interpreted as a consolation prize ; basically apologizing for overlooking her better albims LEMONADE and the self-titled BEYONCÉ We shall see what happens on Sunday. I'm certain I'll be disappointed again 😒🤷🏾‍♂️

But Brat...I listened to it twice, there are some nice songs, but overall I couldn't really connect to it. I don't know what it is, but Billie makes something different than the others. I do think it's amazing to see such a diverse representation of women and music in this category this year and I think that should be acknowledged and celebrated. While I believe Billie Eilish and potentially Chapelle Roan are in the lead to take Album of the Year, I would love to see Cowboy Carter win. I don't think it will and I do believe the Grammys missed major opportunities to award Beyoncé AOTY for 4, Lemonade and definitely Renaissance! I think the narrative around her 'not writing her own music' holds her back quite a bit although it is rooted in her wanting to prop other artists up and make way for underrepresented artists in the industry. While I don't like comparing the two, I do find it hypocritical that Taylor Swift's 'genre bending' and departure from Country to Pop has been so widely accepted and praised, while Beyoncé is consistently holed into R&B categories regardless of sound. The Grammys, like many things, always sparks a larger conversation around the history of the United States and its perception of gender, race and culture. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out this year.

@Blank_Horizon realistically speaking, i've been a fan of beyoncé since 2013 and i know they keep playing in her face. i keep seeing her have the absolute best, most curated, impactful and at times more successful record and still be payed dust - it's always as if the criteria changes every year just to make her lose. so that's why taylor's album doesn't impress me; i used to be a fan of hers (from 2014 to 2019ish, but i pushed it to 2022) and are familiar with her catalogue. her strenght used to be her pen, but in recent years she's become stagnant and redundant with her themes, and since she can't innovate and experiment in her music, she does it in her vocabulary, adding big words and metaphors that sound so ridiculous and extenuate the listener, especially when the musical composition of the tracks remain the same. it's the absolute weakest of the nominees, but, again, i wouldn't put it past the grammys to undeservingly award her again, not after they robbed sza like that last year

I can make a case for "getting" almost every snub for Beyonce, except for 2023. I'm not even a big fan, just like some songs, but renaissance is such a breakthrough from everything she'd done before. That's why i listened to Cowboy Carter this year when it came out, and to this day, it's the only one out of the nominations I've listened to front to back. I really hope they can give her her flowers, but if not, I'm rooting for brat. Billie and Taylor are grammy princesses, this year for no reason if you ask me. SnS and Midwest princess were too Juvenile sounding for me and too garnered for the tiktok sound formula. At least Brat is something different even if it's not really my genre.

Great video for setting the context and stakes! I really enjoyed this.... it's a stacked field and can go so many different directions. Where I disagree is your viewpoint on Beyonce; it's just propagating with the Beyonce publicity machine wants everyone to say. I honestly feel Beyonce was most robbed when she lost for I Am Sasha Fierce... that is the album she was most deserving for and I was shocked she lost for. So many hit songs - Halo, If I Were a Boy, Single Ladies - plus Taylor and Lady Gaga weren't that established yet. She was never going to win against Adele... no songs on Lemonade pervaded the culture nor made the wider commercial impact of 25. She also wasn't going to beat Harry Styles with no hit songs. And I don't think Cowboy Carter is going to be the album that gets finally her the award.... some of the covers are downright bad. Plus no one is saying this, but as much as the Beyonce Bowl will help her the bad juju around Jay-Z will not. This is NOT ultimately going to be about diversity and righting past wrongs... just what album music industry voters enjoyed most this year. And if Beyonce loses, it's because another album deserved it more.

Beyoncé for the win!! Cowboy Carter was 5 years in the making. She studied, she investigated, she did her mf research! That album felt like a history lesson, the genre's ignored past by racist white nashville singers exploded, and she did that!! She gave the attention to Shaabozey, she gave a retired black country singer from the 60s a second chance to shine after the racism she endured, she made SURE she made her black ancestors that played the banjoo and rode them horses PROUD. I would love to see any of the people in that category sing an operatic area from "Caro Mio Ben", then do a Tina Turner rock n' roll song and also cover a Beatles' guitar slow ballad. ALL IN THE SAME RECORD!!!!

I love taylor swift but TTPD is least deserving of AOTY. when we're talking album of the YEAR, even tho billie eilish's is most-appealing to the general public and chappell roan had an INCREDIBLE breakthrough this year, I really feel like charlie xcx's brat was everywhere. the wall, the brat-font-word-generator, the music videos, the dj sets, the deluxe version with all those notable artists hopping on, for heaven's sake even the running candidate for the presidential election used it as a part of her campaign - brat was huge. it deserves AOTY.
