Two things worth noting: The Eagles being the only NFC team in that box and the team to actually make it out of the NFC gives this graph _huge_ credence. It's time for me to find a different sport because I don't see anything changing for the next decade.

@Farting-26 күн бұрын
@@kazumakiryu3397 It does matter though. Given how many different analyses and statistics are available for NFL football, it's very easy to start with a result (in this case, knowing the 4 teams that made it to the conference championship games) and then cherry-pick some data that "predicted" that outcome. You could probably find / create a metric where almost any combination of 4 teams would be at or near the top of the league. 99% of them would suggest some rando mix of teams should be in the final four, and you throw all of those up, so you don't make videos about those. Instead you focus on the 1% that "got it right" and pretend like you stumbled onto something. Yes, he did some backtesting to demonstrate that it has a history of not being terrible at predicting the winners, but come on, there are only 2 inputs into this calculation and one of them is "they must have won a lot of games during the regular season." That's definitely begging the question.

Nice work I think you are on the right track. This is survivor bias tho because the worst teams like the Titans and Browns were also in that “magic zone” for spending. If they were factored in, it would show that spending more or less money doesn’t equal more production or wins. So why do some teams get more production per dollar spent? Well, although the Chiefs might have a lower cap spend, they actually spent the most on their active roster because they had less players on reserves. (Injuries, suspensions, etc) In fact, if you look at the teams that spent the most on reserves, you will see only 1 playoff team in the top 16 and that was the Lions. Conversely, 13 of the 16 bottom teams in reserve spending made the playoffs this year. This is a consistent trend year over year and shows the teams that usually win are the teams that are healthiest and they get more production from their players simply by them being available. In the 2010-2011 season, the Chargers spent 2nd most in reserve money. Next year they were 8th. That’s why they lost, not because of a “magic money zone” but because their high paid players got hurt and didn’t play. (Sorry for the essay lol it’s an interesting topic)

@BRBengals5 күн бұрын
Solid video! Just wanted to comment on a small mistake that doesn't affect your choice of SB champion but it is important to correct. You said that the Chiefs have the 29th (4th lowest) salary ranking for 2024, but actually they have the 4th highest. The stat you are looking at from Spotrac is actually the CAP space (remaining money they are allowed to spend for those who don't know). The Chiefs, Ravens and Bills were 4th, 3rd and 2nd in most money spent in 2024 which is the opposite of your hypothesis. So Super Bowl winners actually tend to spend more than most of the league (or at least have less CAP space which doesn't exactly mean the same thing as spent the most money, but it's close enough). You are correct that the Chiefs use that money efficiently, per Spotrac's Best Value Player ranking, the Chiefs have 16 of the top 320 players (+6 over the average/expectation) which is better than any other team by my count. However, they do use MORE money they just know how to use it better than Carolina who spent the most money this year lol. In my opinion, this is an example of a great front office or being lucky in the draft (cheap rookie deal + great stats = high value) and not necessarily a way to predict Super Bowl wins. The Colts actually have 15 of the top 255 players according to Spotrac which is almost twice the average (+7 over expectation) and yet they missed the playoffs. Food for thought and possible future videos: there is an interesting correlation between Super Bowl appearances and QB's on their rookie deal, cheaper QB = more CAP space for better supporting cast. Also maybe you could research if there is a correlation between Super Bowl wins and age of players, injuries and/or playoff experience. I would be interested to see how those stats compare to your current 59% win chance. Overall funny vid and hope you continue to produce good content!
@KMilly1205 күн бұрын
I really appreciate this. You are right and I realized this after the fact. I was going to re-do the whole thing but thought the other stats help up to support the outcome. Love the video and it will hopefully be an eagles Super Bowl win. In Australia one of the tv networks discovered a similar magic window to yours for the AFL (Australian football)and it is a team must be in the top 6 ranked offence and the top 6 ranked defence. There are 18 teams in the league. And it has correctly predicted 18 of the last 20 the winners. Because often only very few teams are in that window. Not sure if you want to quickly mock that up and see if the chiefs are out? Edit I just had a look on espn and I think if you take into account there are more teams in the nfl so the window is kind of proportionally larger, the Eagles are in it. 8th offense and 1st in defence. Chiefs are 9th defence and nowhere in offence. Go eagles?

So you just have to win a lot of games and not pay your players too much? Seems like we didn't need a graph to know that.

Its more about getting more production out of players that aren't valued highly, but unfortunately they isn't any research into individual players on a wide scale just teams as a whole.
@Farting-27 күн бұрын
@@KMilly120 yeah, that stills seems like a captain obvious statement in a salary-capped league. Like, I'm not just random hating here, I genuinely just didn't get the point of this video. There are only 2 variable discussed and one of them is "they're good at winning games." Like, duh-doi? That's like saying "if you want to know who's gonna win this footrace, look at their 40 times." The reality is that if a team isn't spending all or nearly all of their cap space, they are probably early in a rebuild and they won't win a lot of games (regular season or postseason). So obviously teams that are in the top half of league spending are going to be the most competitive. It just feels like this is a more of a tautology than a predictive analysis.
