Back in the day my Dad played a Guitorgan, a 1970's semi hollow body guitar with organ electronics and sensors in every fret. It was way ahead of its time. Just by touching the strings he could play different organ tones while simultaneously picking the guitar. Watching this video, it's crazy how far we've come. @@SamOjalvo if you are talking about the fender squire version, I believe that was a joke, the Fishman pickup is available right now on Amazon and is amazing for getting any instrument that can be played with midi to be played on guitar. I tried it on several of my guitars, but have it semi permanent on an Ibanez rga32. Some instruments work better than others but it is kind of intuitive S to what works the best. The cello and other strings are amazing and actually piano and any synth software are great too. Perfect for pads and other ethereal stuff. You don’t get the cool chaos x-y pad, but being a really good midi interface for guitar for 230 bucks it pretty cool. You can trigger midi with any guitar but the true polyphonic ability isn’t really there.

Hah, that was my thought too. A midi guitar seems unappealing to me, and 'string instruments' are generally easy on a keyboard even if you're not a big piano player. But being able to record vibratos and bends in tabs as you play them could be nice.

Not only that, you have to play in a completely different way which contradicts the naive notion that you could apply your guitar music skills to other instruments this way. I have been playing with guitar-to-midi for a long time now and all systems have the same issues which are not down to the tech but some fundamental incompatibilities between how MIDI and guitars work. Hammer-ons, ghost notes, double notes, bends, the list goes on.

I've played guitar 40 years and keyboards 35 years but for me it's having that package. Yes, takes time to set up what you want but when you have that it looks like a super time saver. No more switching back and forth to bass, keyboards, drum pads then guitar. It can all be right there and when I have that moment of inspiration I want to capture it quickly. It's something I would consider saving up for. Oh, I like that 2 finger tapping which I do a lot too but on guitar you need setting so it can pick that up well. With that guitar it looks like you can be way more creative and get sound out of the notes to a more balanced volume between the right and left hand. I could spend hours just doing that. Great video again. Thank you!

I've been following Midi Guitars for so long but never bothered with any of them. FINALLY this seems like one that actually works like how you need it too work. Too expensive for me unfortunately, but I'd say worth the price regardless. Too awesome. Also, can't wait to see all the other musicians I follow use this. This reminds me of a plugin I made in college to convert a guitar's audio output into MIDI information (obviously this guitar does WAY more). It's a blast to play around with, you can do some really weird and unique things on a guitar that you wouldn't do on keys, and unique things with synths that you couldn't do on guitar.

I saw this nearly a year ago, and was impressed. And being Irish, this made me smile...... this is a great demo of this guitar, it whets my appetite. The instrument could be used in a lot of applications, for example composing and arranging and recording. I can really imagine using one of these. I have also tried midi guitars before but this seems different and a way better implementation of the concept.

It's a performance tool, this guy can do many things. With pedals (or plugins) you can get a piezo to sound as good as any acoustic on stage, I wouldn't sit down at home to play acoustic on it but it can cut down one live guitar. The trigger buttons can be mapped to whatever percussion you need, vibraslap, congas or cowbell, or some bass notes if you want to cover Rush. All you need is this guitar, a good laptop, a good I/O and a personal monitor and hit the road. I use the Fishman TP and it's the best of all the ones I've had but it has the same glitch as yours maybe not as much but I can hear them. I have MIDI foot controllers and a octave of bass pedals so I wouldn't use the pad and joystick but if I was forced to bring less gear or build a B rig I'd use it. Are the trigger buttons on the pickguard velocity sensitive? Mapping the midi is fun but you have to try to get at the velocity sensitivity setting and play with the articulation mapping built into the patches if you really want your strings and horns to sound good.

With a multi track looper you could do a lot with that guitar in a performance. I saw Robert Fripp back in the 80s when he had his frippertronics set up, a looping tape machine and a recording tape machine. He built up this amazing ambient type track as a performance.

I love the idea of that guitar. I'm a gadget guy but I'm worried about being overwhelmed with the learning curve and lengthy set up. I currently use Amplitube and ToneX and I'm pretty proficient with it after a few years with it but I'm not convinced I know it all and getting the best tone out of that system. I haven't even got to setting it up and running it through a DAW yet. So although I love the idea of that guitar, I'm afraid it would become a dust collector and something use briefly for special affects. Then I'd also would need to invest in MIDI controlled pedals too. I have some, the IK Multimedia's Boutique pedals and admittedly they are a bit of a dust collectors too with me using the software almost exclusively now If I could sit with someone😮 as proficient as you on a regular basis to set it up and play music with, then that's a different story. I for sure would invest.

I installed drum triggers under my scratch plate and in my guitar's neck, and I've hunted for every synth pedal to get closer to these sounds, but this would really solve my problems! I am so excited about the direction guitars are headed... a blend of the past and the future is why I loved Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds since I was a kid.

Beautiful playing! I have been using midi guitars for years. There are some crazy things you can do with tunings and sound fonts, like in Kontakt by NI. Latency and accuracy are important issues, but it actually improved my playing because it is so unforgiving. The down side is that only fretted hand notes are synthesized. No harmonics, zydeco scratching, pick sounds, etc. Someone should invent a midi pick or midi strings. To that end, midi needs an upgrade, because it is like seriously 1970’s tech. We’re not going to Mars on the space shuttle.

One of my guitar playing goals for the past 60 years has been to be able to play string instruments like a cello, etc with my guitar. I've tried guitar midi interfaces but was never really satisfied. That instrument, however, blew it out of the park! Terrific! I'm so inspired!

This seems so awesome! I was classically trained on piano, switched to metal and jazz guitar in high school, and recently went back to learning piano since im doing more music production with midi and such. I would've LOVED to have this and not have to re-learn piano again haha

Had no idea this existed let alone made in Ireland. We have some of the “alpha” acoustic builders like Lowden, McIlroy and Avalon. The attack on the piano emulation is incredible on this machine, I’d say worth the money considering the considerable R&D.
