A key for anyone. Reading the NY Post is just gonna rot your brain. That is all that publication has ever done. I personally never take anything from the post as anything serious, because the Post has never been a news outlet that is anywhere near journalism. Some publications, like the post, is just looking for opinion pieces to spew right wing anger.

I was at one of the White Sox games against the rays, and I sat in left field to see Randy. I got a bunch of fellow Sox fans cheering his name and chanting for Randy and he would turn around wave to the fans, do his pose and we’d do the pose back. It was a great full of back and forth interactions and was super fun for all involved, probably Randy too. He’s a great jewel for the game of baseball and we are lucky to be able to see him play

writer probably just misses/wants more olden tough/classy displays of older baseball culture. a lot of unwritten rules are healthy for a unique sport such as baseball & in the USA there's just certain generations that are used to or see the benefits of more olden standards being maintained or simply.... do not care too watch grown overpaid men's childish/egocentric behavior be the talk of the town. he clearly just seeks to see more humble, classy, skilled players & less nonstop celebrations on plays. i am just being devil's advocate here.... to be clear. Randy can keep doing his thing... it's excessive at times.... but not harming anyone.

As a Yankees fan Randy’s home run celebration in this past series definitely pissed me off but not from the standpoint that he doesn’t have the right to celebrate he absolutely does, that’s what makes the game more fun to watch for fans that’s what makes it a better rivalry, MLB should want to increase fan engagement and later in that same game after Judge hit his second home or he very uncharacteristically took his time leaving the box to round the bases not sure if that was a response to Randy but that’s the type of stuff that the game needs, pretty soon all these old fashion people with a stick up their you know what will be gone teams should dislike each other especially within their own division that’s definitely what the MLB needs

As a massive baseball fan one of my biggest pet peeves has always been the unwritten rules. And what people think it's flash you're over the top and you're right people are always going to be pissed when a player does something flashy if they're on the opposing side. I wonder why is it OK for a picture to strike out a batter and yell or scream or pump is fierce but if a batter hits a home run and flips the bat some people lose their shit not as much as they used too. A lot of it comes down to culture a lot of the tons and tons of Latin American players who play come from a different culture. It's like the announcer who said that they were wearing bike chains around their neck why does that matter as long as they're doing their job and they're not hurting anybody. Some people just look for something to be offended by and that will be one of those people who will say people are too easily offended. Love the channel man great job

Those type of reporters have held a grip on the League for far too long and if there is anything that kills baseball it is the stoicism they expect players to play with. He's barking up the wrong tree with Arozarena, I feel like Randy isn't taking himself too seriously when he does that, looks like it originated as a way to crack people up. Ultimately it's up to the opposing players to stop him if they don't like it, that's the beauty of sports, go out the next inning and shut him up on the field of play, even mock him back with his signature pose after striking him out if you're prepared to go there. But it's really not that serious.

I read the article, it's another sportswriter essay lamenting the death of sportsmanship and denouncing 'look at me' antics, it's an old theme. I'm sure they were writing the same things a hundred years ago, and surely 50 years ago when Phil Mushnick was in his youth. That's what I'm finding ironic, that he seems to want people in sports and maybe society in general to dial things back to be more modest and reserved, but it was his generation that went rogue and brought us the ultimate 'do whatever you wanna do' attitude of sex, drugs & rock 'n roll, took us down the path of narcissism & consumerism and generally spent decades pissing off the old people of the day. Now he's the old guy and it's not sitting well. He doesn't even acknowledge what his generation did to the culture, instead he quotes a rock song from 1971.

The love I have in my heart for baseball can't be overstated. I never played as a kid because I was really bad at making consistent contact / throwing with any sort of accuracy whatsoever, but it didn't matter. I was significantly taller and stronger than most of the other kids my age, and I was decent at hockey / good at basketball. I stayed in my lane but I always openly envied the baseball team. As an adult sports fan baseball is absolutely just as entertaining to me as football. And I absolutely LOVE what is happening in baseball right now with the major changes we're seeing. I love the pitch clock. I think it makes the games way more accessible to actually sit down and watch for casual fans. I love the changes within baseball culture that we're seeing. I think it's about time the old heads stopped arbitrarily dictating what is "acceptable" and what flies in the face of their sacred "unwritten rules". I love this new enthusiasm for the WBC, it has clearly provided a much needed shot in the arm for MLB. I sincerely hope these old heads will either get on board or find something else to complain about. Mostly for their own sake, because it's apparent that baseball is ready to evolve with or without them. And it's about time.

Nah, you're missing the mark as much as the guy you're criticizing. Is he overboard with his own criticism? Yes. Are you over forgiving of the "me me me" attitude? Yes. As much as people don't wanna hear it, this is about the overall shift in the way society is heading, especially the last decade. A shift away from empathy and respect for the fellow human, to one of self-absorption and an "eff the world" mentality. You're writing it off as having fun, but that's a pretty shallow way of seeing it. I dont blame you, though, as that's what you've grown up knowing. That's his whole point though. He sucks at conveying it without obvious irritation, but ironically enough, that's also a product of society now, and he doesn't see that part of it. Put simply, you're thinking of this in purely baseball terms whoch is why you refer to it as you do, he's likely not. Watching societal decay grow daily (he thinks more about it because of his age) he's going to be be outspoken about it for it's overall implications. Btw, im right in the middle. I like some of the new celebrations, but i also think it over steps many times, too. Hopefully you and him can both eventually see the other side. Sadly, that's not common anymore.

It honestly seems like Mushnik can't find anything concrete to complain about and is just spewing random stuff that makes him seem out of touch.

It's very fitting one of the most exciting player in the league right now, with one of the best stories out of the World Baseball classic is apart of the Rays

Counterpoint: Randy is playing a team sport, but clearly thinks it's all about Randy. We've seen this before in other sports that require cooperation and attentiveness; it usually ends poorly. I'm not hating on Arozarena, but I've seen this musical before....

journalists sometimes have the wildest hot takes, especially sports journalists. If you'll indulge me, I have an example from sumo wrestling, which is my prefferred sport to watch: Last year september Tamawashi won the tournament. If you don't know who he is, he is the oldest wrestler in the top division (nearing his 40s) and was considered an underdog in that tournament. A Journalist from DW decided to write an article about the tournament, proclaiming that Tamawashi only won the tournament by sheer luck, and he only won because every other wrestler was shit in his opinion. Then for the other 67% of the article he complained that noone watches sumo anymore, because young people only care about their smartphones these days... Was probably the worst article about any sport I've ever read, period.

I guess this stuff is part of the new modern baseball game. Back in the day, for me the 60’s and the 70’s this making a statement with bat flips, analytics and all the rest of the new and improved baseball would be laughed out of town. Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether one understands it or not. You, me, or Phil Mushnick.

🤷🏻‍♂️ isn’t the New York Post a tabloid anyway. As a Dodger fan… “Go Randy! + the bat flippers + the ones leaving it all on the field + etc”

He’s making an argument that Arozarena’s pose is evidence of the collapse of society 😂 That’s why he brought up all those irrelevant instances
