This is actually so good because it’s sometimes more challenging to witness to “Christians” with a misunderstanding of salvation and being born again. You’re right, it’s so simple yet people try to use their own cleverness to work around things they don’t agree with which leads to idolatry.

This is what I sounded like as an atheist. People hated me. This is also why I often don't talk theology if I'm having a migraine like I am now. My heart knows the Truth of Jesus Christ, but my head does all of these catapults into theory and (yes) blasphemy. I truly admire how gentle you were with this man while adroitly dancing around his objections and still sticking the Sword of the Spirit right through his heart. Prayers for this young man! He will no doubt be a warrior for Christ when he surrenders his life to the One who is indeed the only Door!

Thanks for sharing and hope the migraines get better! I'll say a prayer for you for sure. But yes I feel the same exact way. My heart knows the truth and the simplicity of Jesus. But my brain sure can come up with some theories. Some of them make so much sense in my mind at the time that I truly begin the question where and who the theory came from. Anybody know where I can go in the Bible to make sense of this? I know this isn't me but could God still be giving new revelations to certain people? If so, is it possible for those people to not be believed or not believe it themself? After typing this out, I see how dumb it is. Then that would mean God made a mistake by picking that person and God doesn't make mistakes. So Nevermind, just the first part stands. Lol I was going to erase the second part but maybe somebody can use it. Praying!

Hey Derek I would think test your theories by the Word or let the Word form your theories. And if you feel a spirit test it by the Word. The devil hates the name of Jesus but the Spirit glorifies Him as they all glorify each other. That is the Father, the Son and the Spirit. Grace and peace be with you Derek.

@echochamber... "God claim"??? Our brains will never catch up with Romans 8:16. I've been born-again for 10½ years, and I'm gonna tell you straight up, I still don't understand, in my brain, how it is possible that one day I as an atheist trying to corrupt a good, godly woman went from atheist to believer in a moment! But, the joy, the peace, the love that flowed through me... Everything that I treasured regarding temporal pleasure evaporated.... One moment a whoremonger, and the next a weeping, sin confessing, God worshipping, hymn singing freakazoid that I used to mock as a fool. It's Amazing Grace! Nope. I can't prove God exists. But I can definitely show you the love with which God filled me. When you understand my hateful past and witness the overflowing love in me, there's no denying that "something" happened that's not human in origin. Isaiah 53... By his stripes we are healed...

The Author of CONFUSION is God. Scripture is written testimony both decades and centuries apart. Free will is the ability to choose. Lost is unchosen. Events are witnessed and many events are supernatural. There is a lot of confusion in the Bible. The heart becomes clear once the message is recieved. It is through testimony and accounts that creates the knowledge to have clarity. The Holy Bible.

This is likely the most love he has ever received since his intellect has likely given him a sense of superiority to evade the Holy Spirits conviction. Ray’s simplicity with authority is life giving. The Gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing, but salvation when we understand Christ came in flesh and became responsible for us. We must satisfy the simplicity of trust in His righteousness alone. Sophistication can help you debate with men, but it’s useless with God. We come to Him like a child.

@@wandertree I reckon a watered down Gospel sounds more like being left "a forgiven sinner" rather than being free of Sin, and dead to Sin as romans 6 invites us into. I often find people "comfortable in their Sins" are the ones who believe "were still slaves to sin but at least we can be forgiven" Then the problem with sin isn't death, or the damage it causes, but God's view of it? So we go on "trying not to sin" but leaving all too much place for it to rule us. In other words we live in Sin with the excuse of being covered by the blood. Jesus died to defeat the power of sin and death not to change how God sees us, it was our eyes opened in the garden not His.

I hope that makes sense. I feel like it's partly his way to understand how a God who created us would send us to a horrible place knowing ahead of time that many of us would end up there.

Ray, that was an interesting interview and helped me formulate a question that I've been wanting to ask about your interviews. When you ask if people think they are "a good person," do you think there's perhaps too much of a disconnect in context between what the phrase means to us and what it means to the interviewee? It's like if you and the interviewee spoke two different languages that sounded identical to one another but meant two very different things. You're asking, "do you think your life is equal to the sinless life of Jesus" and they're _hearing,_ "do you think your life is more good than bad, more kindness than unkindness?" Just something that I have always wondered about.
@igobydubri
@igobydubri Жыл бұрын
Great wording and youre spot on, but if I’m not mistaken as to what you mean and what Ray’s doing, I think I may be able to clarify. The standard of good is* the life of Jesus and the law of God, and there is* a disconnect for people who are not in Christ or that haven’t seen their sin in it’s true light, exposed by the light of Christ and the gospel. I think the strategy is allowing the person to answer for themselves their own standard to then expose that by using their own standard or any standard other than God’s is one of their biggest problems with being able to see their desperate need for forgiveness from a Holy God, and to be able to receive and appreciate the gospel and what Jesus did on the cross. Basically, allowing the person to expose themselves is hopefully helpful to soften their hearts. Unfortunately telling someone who’s father is still the devil that Jesus is the standard isn’t really moved, it’s seeing their own sin and need for repentance that can move them. Praise the Lord Jesus. God bless you ❤

☝️ Great answer! The standards is God's law, people think they are awesome because they compare themselves with others, but God's law is the mirror which shows our sinfulness and moral depravity. If a person puts their faith in Jesus to save them from eternal damnation they ARE saved... Regardless of their understanding of any other doctrinal truths. That is learned as we grow in Christ. That is the process of sanctification.. we dont have to understand it all in order to "get" saved.

We are actually saved when God gifts us salvation. ...it is the gift of God...Eph 2:8,9 Belief, as well as repentance are commands -"And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ" 1 John 3:23 -"God...commands all men every where to repent" Acts 17: 30 following them is being obedient, and obedience is expected not rewarded. Now the difference is God promises to give (GIFT) salvation to those who repent and believe, the difference is subtle, but paramount. We don't want to present Belief equals salvation in a quid pro quo fashion, or we risk presenting salvation as a reward, or compensation. And a reward is not a gift, a true gift (grace) is a one-way transaction.

A false convert? That's absurd. You don't know that. His theology is too Eastern for my liking, but - last time I checked - it's not theology that saves someone. It's faith in Christ through the grace of God. If he earnestly believes that Jesus is Lord and was risen, he will be saved. Roman Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Coptic Orthodox, Lutherans, Baptists, and everyone else will be saved if if they believe in the Gospel.

@@Jimmy-iy9pl technically, theology concerning salvation should line up with what God says. It’s the same reason why Ahteists, Muslims, Mormons, Iglesia Ni Cristos, CoCs and WMSCOGs won’t enter into Heaven. Also, Jesus said this. ”“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day [when I judge them], ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, and driven out demons in Your name, and done many miracles in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them publicly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me [you are banished from My presence], you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands].’“ ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭21‬-‭23‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Just as religious denominations, there are people that may approach things with a different viewpoint, which would not make them any more or less of a Christian than you or I. We should all be grateful and blessed to have the great minds of a Mitch or a Ray who are true soldiers of Christ. God Bless! ✝

The problem that Mitch mentioned in regards to the world not being able to receive the simple Gospel message is a valid and true concern. The world is made up of 8 billion people. Throughout the start of humanity from Adam forward not everyone has been notified of the Gospel of Christ. God will ultimately be the judge. At the same time I understand Ray is Jewish. He obviously converted to Christianity however any Orthodox Jew will tell you that they do not agree with the Christian narrative and that it's idolatry. A practicing Jew will tell you that Hashem is can forgive and does not need a blood sacrifice.

My definition of sin is the state of separation from God and the poor fruit in our lives that results from that separation. We either conciously or unconsciously choose to continue to live in our state of sin, shown by our actions that separate us from God. Therefore, it is our actions that continue the existence of living in sin, and the harms and problems of this world are derived from our choices. We cannot blame God for the consequences of our choices.

Yup, the theology of Gregory of Nyssa and the cappadocian fathers was the prevailing thought even during the 4th century when Agustin discussed eternal torment. Augustine admits this. The cappadocian fathers where instrumental in developing the early creeds of the church. I think from Gregory of Nyssa’s point of view we would be the ones that have created an idol. His treatise on 1 Corinthians 15:28 is interesting. David Bentley Hearts book “that all shall be saved” is a compelling argument.

The Bible is powerfully simple, and this passage speaks it perfectly, Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Intellect is a gift, but can be used against us so easily, since being saved, I hold Proverbs 3:5 close to heart, more than ever now: Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Repentance seems problematic sometimes to me. As it seems to require someone to get their life right, before they can be saved. How can you truly be free of sin without the grace of God? Is it therefore repentance from sin, from your own ways or beliefs, or from dead works (as stated in Hebrews)? What does it mean, turning away from self to Christ? Many Christians I know struggle with this. As many Christians fall into sin, and then feel they will not be forgiven or restored unless they somehow overcome their own sins by themselves.
