Since the unfortunate situation in Haiti has continued to become more and more unfortunate, I went out and bought 4 bottles of RB 5 Star. It's a beautiful Rhum, and there's really nothing else like it. May God be with the poor people of Haiti 🇭🇹

This is a great one to swap with rhum agricole. I used Holmes cay and upped the Falernum a lil and it turned out amazing. Here was my build: 1 1/2 oz Holmes Cay grand arôme 1/4 oz Lemonhart 151 3/4 oz JDT Falernum 1/2 oz Pineapple juice 1/2 oz lime juice 1/4 oz Grenadine 1 dash Tiki bitters

Barbancourt 15 year is one of my absolute favorite rums, and at a reasonable price, happy to see it here!

Awesome video, as always Derek. And yes! Please make a video about the types of ice, I can't get a nugget ice machine, I'd love to hear more about it.

@supersamazing, if you live in the US and have a Sonic drive inn nearby, you can get their nugget ice. It’s not on the menu, but they sell 2 lb bags of it for less than $5 if I recall correctly.

Where was that? Was that the music playing in the background? Never would have picked Sloop John B!

I loved it too. Found it with Shazam. It's by HillTopTrio (one word, not 3) and is on Spotify.

I was introduced to Barbancourt 5 Star when I used to go to Haiti on a tugboat. I was given bottles of it, and thought nothing of it, as i never opened them. Then some old salts heard I went to Haiti a bunch of times, asked did I try the local elixir of Barbancourt? I said no, they're at the house, still sealed. Well i went home and loved it immediately, then discovered the Estate Reserve 15 year old! Its been my #1 for almost thirty years.🥂

Another example of why I love this channel- obtainable ingredients, straightforward technique, and excellent results. I used to love to drink rum neat, but these cocktails are just so much fun.

Also, when you do compare the ice, make sure to compare flash blend versus shaking. I guarantee there’s a difference.

I cannot find any Barbancourt nearby, been using Agricole instead, any reccomendations if barbancourt isn't an option? Also, hoping for peace in Haiti soon.
@uraniumrock83817 ай бұрын
Rhum Barbancourt really isn't much like what you're going to get with an Agricole. There's a other Hatian brand called Ak Zanj that is similar to Rhum Barbancourt. Otherwise, maybe just use a split base of an aged Agricole and a Bajan rum.

I’d sub in a Cachaca for Rhum Barbancourt. Won’t be the same, but closer than most.

So I ordered the 4, 8 and 15 year Barbancourts... since it has been "in the works" for some time now. Would you say that this drink is a good one to really notice the differences in the three? I know I won't like any of them neat (but will try) but if you have a better cocktail than this to bring out the differences in the three, I'm all ears 😀
@makeanddrink7 ай бұрын
As generic as it sounds, I'd make them in a Daiquiri. I think I may have even done this sometime a few months ago and remember liking the 8 more than the 15.

I do find it annoying when the ice floats to the top and you just see liquid on the bottom. What I do (regardless of what ice I use) I fill the glass 3/4 of the way to the top with crushed ice or pebble ice (it doesn't make a difference which one) and then I shake the cocktail with the crushed or pebble ice (depending on which one I filled in the glass already) and then I just simply open pour into the glass and top off with more of that ice. The only ice I haven't figured out yet is the normal square golf ball sized ice cubes that you typically stack in a collins glass, it's harder to prevent those ice cubes from rising.
