Hi from America. My ex's grandfather was from the Royal House. When he left because he didn't believe in what Japan was going to do during the gearing up before World War II. He lost everything his title his inheritance his lands his family even his name. He also lost the right for his own person and his whole family in the future forever to come back to Japan and be buried not even their ashes can be brought back. It was very emotional. He had an arranged marriage they would not allow the girl to get out of it and she hated him for it. When war broke out he left in 1925, was married in 1928 She was sent on a ship and she was not allowed to get off the ship or go anywhere else she can escape unless he came and got her and married her on the ship That way she was trapped into the marriage basically. She was never happy because she had to give up her homeland because of him. When war broke out she sent the next day all of their money to Japan thinking that by doing so they would be deported instead in the FBI showed up wanted to know if he was a traitor but the local sheriff stood up for him and said no he is an honorable man who chose America over Japan back in the '20s. I know this man has lost a great deal to be here. His wife is lonely for her family she can never see again . His 12 children wouldn't thrive in a camp. Sheriff was able to convince investigators to drop the charges. My ex-husband's grandfather was very sweet man who loved America and felt devastated by what happened with his country being convinced that imperialism would make them a great nation. He had tried to convince his military bound relatives that the world had changed after World War I but they just needed to increase the country's GPA or they were going to sink and the only way they could see doing that was they need to bring in more raw materials which they could not afford to purchase So they decided to go to war instead of negotiation. It was an odd time and history he said. I got to meet him He said he had no regrets not staying He would never have obtained the throne his cousins were definitely in line for it He was one of the outer edge relatives and thus would have only obtained the throne if that whole family had been destroyed. Although he said the smaller the outer edge gets the less opportunity for the princesses to marry royalty without unfortunately marrying into incestuous relationships where you're literally marrying your first cousin He said his family went far enough back but not too close that big were viable as marriage material for the princesses and one of his uncle's was married Of course that would have been in the 1800s to one of the Royal princesses in the line but he would never have been in line for the throne because only male heirs were inherited but of course she luckily didn't have to give up her crown or live a totally what they call selfless life they become a nun to the goddess. It's a really rough situation when there aren't enough aristocrats out there for the young women to marry and continue to maintain their title and all their inheritance that's where he thought that was wrong and I see today that they have to give up everything but the young man doesn't he can marry whoever he wants That's not fair. It's just to make sure that the child of a woman who marries outside the line doesn't inherit the throne It's still a male dominated situation He was very forward thinking he made sure all his daughters went to college and even his youngest whom was not cared for or loved or appreciated in the manner that all the other children were and that was because her mother looked was so angry about having to be stay married for basically forced to marry this man who had already left the country and was gone but forced to marry him and then spend 5 years living in his mother's house learning to do everything exactly the way she did it that nothing would be out of place nothing would be a chair wouldn't be out of place etc that she would be able to use because she was constantly being tested about it. In the end he lost pretty much all of his family during the war. Even his parents died. They were living in the wrong places. All of his brothers died in the fight and his sisters well and they bombed the cities they were there He had tried to warn them this was not the way to go Not been the only one educated outside of Japan who went home and found out that it had decided to go to war. But many had had to change their mind if they wanted to stay home and stay with their families just stay apart of a life they'd always known. To be a part of their family, to be able to use their name. That dear man could never use his real name for the rest of his life He used his mother's family name as his name and he didn't go away without any money His other grandfather mother's side felt so sad about everything happening that he turned around and gave him and inheritance amount early so that he would be able to at least survive in America till he got a job. His job was with the The railroad he interpreted Chinese for them and he also was an engineer on building railroad which was a good time in the late 20s. Ps only reason husband are not married now is his mother wanted him to marry Japanese person. He wanted to marry me. Though he did and he tried really hard. She wasn't going to stop her harassment and he had a breakdown that I couldn't bring him out of. With his clinical team but I create that my leaving the picture was probably for the best.

It's called SHINSEKI-KOUKA (臣籍降下), and the process has been the same since...at least the HEIAN Period, so over 1,000 years ago. When a Princess marries outside of the Imperial Family, she becomes a member of her husband's family/clan. Thus, she becomes a Subject of the Emperor and no longer an Imperial Family Member. Additionally, historically the title for the Son of an Emperor is SHINOU (親王), Grandson of an Emperor is OH (王). 4th generation will become a Subject and no Imperial Title. They become aristocrats. Clan names like MINAMOTO (aka Genji) indicate they originate from the Imperial Family. There were rare occasions when the Emperor had too many sons, they skip the generational inheritance and SHINSEKI-KOUKA would take place immediately. It was mostly for financial/budgetary reasons of the Imperial Household.

I'm afraid the story in this video is not entirely true. It is not her dicision to give up the title. She must leave the Imperial Family after her marriage due to the Imperial Code that is applied to all females born in the Imperial Family. Those who marry commoners are eligible to get a special allowance approx 1,000,000+ USD for leaving the Imperial Family. In addition, each person in the Family gets progressive payment according to the age and status from approx 3,000 USD (for child) to 100,000 USD (for adult) each year, as non-taxable net income, and they also have other extra income. There are budgets for each imperial family as well and they do not need to pay for their living expenses. So they are rich enough and they need to learn how to live on their own since the resource for the Imperial Family is not unlimited. As a matter of fact, she bought a luxury apartment with security guards in some high-end residential area for her new life. By the way, it was a kind of arranged marriage. Her husband, working as highly paid government servant, was the university classmate (or schoolmate) of her younger brother who introduced them to each other. They started dating for some time and got married. He has been promoted quickly since marriage.

I am a person from Japan. A half of this story is wrong! Nori had been raised by the policy of her mother ex- empress Mchiko to learn how to live frugally like a commoner since her childhood very solidly. She was trained in various commoners ' life settings and she received separate education to become a functional citizen as a commer directly from her mother, in addition to her regular loyal family's education. Nori is her loyal name, and her commoners' name is Sayako. (Saaya is her nickname). From day 1 of her marriage, she was witnessed to do grocery shopping , purchasing discounted produce, riding a bicycle. It is not true that she gradually learned how to live as a commoner after her marriage. Her husband did not choose his job to be that of a public sector for this marriage but he had been holding this job even before his marriage. (Also, not just because he wanted to live close to his wife's family so that he can let his wife emotionally support her parents, but also because he could disassociate himself, therefore his wife as well, from any politically or commercially attached position so that his wife's family (loyal family is always totally free from the possibility of being thrown into any scandal originating from them, which is their kindest consideration for the loyal family. BTW. her husband had been (before their marriage) known as, and still now is very famous as the most humble and kindest person among his coworkers, friends, people live around his house. If you make this kind of video, it is imperative to do thorough research!

As a matter of fact, just recently, from May 15 to June 1, 2024, all Japanese political parties agreed that women should keep their status upon marriage, but did not reach a conclusion on whether they can succeed to the throne, or as to the status of their husbands and children. (It's basically unofficial meeting and debate before future parlimentary session that has not been planned yet) This means that future Imperial Princess would be able to keep their status in a few more years. This, however, does not apply to Imperial Princess, who is already married to commoners like Princess Nori or Princess Kako. i dont think so. japanese R is unique. the sound is like combination of R and L. from what i see, they only use rolling R when they want to sound badass.
