The game is taking place in Russia so dude is likely dealing with a Domovoj, a house spirit. They are usually friendly and protect the house. If they're angry then 99% chances it's A) or B). A) the house is the main character's and they're to blame or B) the house is not the MC's and the spirit is protecting the house from the MC.
