2:24, if I'm not mistaken, that audio sample is of Anneliese Michel. A girl in Germany who was possessed by several demons and was exorcized by priests, but later died. The priests and parents were arrested and charged with negligent homicide. Anneliese's story gave inspiration to the horror movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Creepy stuff. The priests (I believe) were ultimately forced to say it was mental illness all along. (My guess for a reduced sentence.) This was a very public trial. I believe officials wanted to not start a panic. Annalise's tapes are available on youtube. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6....... 7😈)

I once attended a lecture at a haunted attraction convention that discussed the psychology of fear. It was one of the best I’ve ever attended. To make the case for anticipation, one of the speakers pulled out a jack in the box and started slowly turning the crank and walking around the room pointing it at people. Everyone knows what’s going to happen but the anticipation in the room was palpable. I love jump scares, especially well crafted ones, but if you never give that release, the anticipation stays the entire time.
