Regan's power to engage us for the whole 35 mins (and frequent Amazon trips) is stunning. Like, I have been watch this for 4 years now and the excitement is the same if not more than what I start with 4 years ago. Brilliant. The way she articulate and narrate stuff is beyond my tiny brain

I've said this multiple times but not every author should or needs to write adult books and personally, I think Holly Black is one of those authors

Super happy to have gotten to hear your thoughts about this one. This was my most anticipated release and I wanted to hear what you thought to sort of manage my expectations a bit better. Like you, I has really high expectations going in but I'm almost halfway through and I'm struggling. Thanks for always being so honest. Also, love seeing how the house is coming along 😊

Yeahhhh Book of Night was definitely just okay. There were some parts I really enjoyed and other parts seemed super convoluted/confusing. I also feel like for an adult book it should have been more adult. There is definitely gonna be a book 2 from the way it ends. (P.S. if you are looking for a good fantasy book with some teen angst I suggest checking out Edgewood by Kristen Ciccarelli or Sofi and the Bone Song by Adrienne Tooley! I feel like both of these releases have flown under the radar)

Omg, I loved that series as a tween lol! That sort of makes me want to check this one out more, I think it will have to be a library read because of these reviews though.

This book was the biggest "meh" kind of nothingness. What I felt was the most lacking was a a sense of atmosphere. Like it wanted to be dark and seedy and edgy but I just didn't really feel that even though all the pieces were technically there

I’m only a couple chapters into book of night but so far it really reminds me of Holly Black’s Curse Workers series, the pacing and magic system is pretty similar. But I know that series is not as popular as her others. Tbh I only read it because the audiobooks are narrated by Jesse Eisenberg which I find hilarious

Why were people expecting romance in Book of Night? Holly Black never said it had romance, it was not even advertised that way 🥴 I feel like its lack of romance made people disappointed but it was never intended to be that in the first place. Romance aside, the whole shadow magic part of it was interesting, and Charlie was a very intriguing character (in my opinion).
@xJillie2 жыл бұрын
I liked her, too. I’m hoping it’s successful enough for Black to write a sequel! And I actually really liked the little bit of romance that was in the book. Overall it’s probably my 2nd favorite Holly Black book (my fav is Coldest Girl in Coldtown)
@PeruseProject2 жыл бұрын
I def wanted romance and imo there was romance in this book - so that aspect I wasn’t bothered by (also if there was no romance I would also not be bothered by it) I overall just found the plot a little lacking and I wish there was more atmosphere/ambiance

@@baileys1004 Big name fan. I guess the term has fallen out of use, but back when Cassandra Clare (then called Cassie Claire) was coming up in fandom, Black was about one tier lower in name recognition. As I understand it, Claire's dramas pretty much killed the whole world of fans becoming such huge celebrities in fandom, but it was very...interesting for a while there, lol!
