I want to say thanks. I am a trad guy and I have shot in instinctive and longbow division in Greece, despite the fact I don't have a record status because trad bows are not in pro-competition divisions I hold the biggest score in longbow (577/720). I have no coach. "Self taught" kind of. I've spent infinite time in KZbin watching the trad guys and ok I ve learned form from them but they all fail to deliver the most essential. How you can improve that goddamned back tension and clean release. Even Jake Kaminski fails. You are a very reliable source lad. Even for me the trad guy. Good job 👍👍👍

Actually find Tom Clum videos nr3F96kqv9k He is the only one to simply explain how to reach back tension. It's so simply explained. I've been back to shooting for a year and when I saw his videos it finally clicked. Just copy the jumble if numbers letters and paste into KZbin search

This a great training device. In competition, wear a longsleeve compression shirt, and bunch the material into the elbow joint, and this gives you the same sensation, of squeezing the training device, when actually competing. Works really well, and not banned 😁

What I understood is that since you feel the squeeze increases even when you release, it prevents a dead release

Sounds interesting, but I'm concerned that using it can cause the biceps or arm muscles in general to engage more than necessary instead of the back muscles.
@OnlineArcheryAcademy

I see what you mean, but it's more to encourage the movement of the elbow, which does encourage correct scapula movement and using the large muscles of the back :) Give it a try, you won't be dissapointed!

hi just joined your following I have been shooting some one year and love it ( 74 years young )I have a 30yrd set up at home 60cm target ,I have watched most of your VT,s and are so easy to follow , fantastic I use a HOYTE 68" at 27 draw with Easton A/C/C 750 , I have arthritis in my bow hand fingers so I cant use a TAB I watched your VT on loose grip on bow as I shoot 3 under and found it usefully , what dose it do if you grip the bow to tight ??I have nosiest that my grouping is around red blue ? is this tuning or me thanks once a gain regards Brian smith
@OnlineArcheryAcademy
@OnlineArcheryAcademy 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian! Thanks so much for watching the videos, I'm really happy they help! For the bow grip, if you grip it too tight it's likely to cause torque of the bow when you release, and to affect the grouping, so it can have quite an impact! Are you able to try with the bow hand relaxed?

If you use your biceps you don't understand movement. The squeeze is result of closing the "hinge". Use your biceps and you will have a feel of opening the "hinge"

I threaded a band through the barrel of a marker. It seems to roll forward a bit when expanding. Is that OK? As long as I keep it moving...
@OnlineArcheryAcademy
@OnlineArcheryAcademy 4 жыл бұрын
That sounds ok, I think a marker might be a little too thick though. A good household item would be the plastic casing of an old ball point pen. This should be a little thinner and less prone to rolling

I dont see this drill working. What are you suposed to squese with? When i draw and and anchor and during transfer my draw arm is fully rekaxed and acts like a lever, the bend in the arm comes from the back muscle using angular motion to place the elbow.
@chrisnoble662
@chrisnoble662 4 жыл бұрын
Morten Jacobsen I’ve just tried it with a stretchy band and a pencil and it does work. No tension in the arm needed but if your elbow is moving back and around then the angle between your upper and forearm come together. If you are pulling straight back using only your arm then it doesn’t work.
@mortenjacobsen5673
@mortenjacobsen5673 4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisnoble662 but how does it relate to the release? When youre at holding the lan2 or arm is at rest, and its all about the executeion or contraction of the rhomboid to be spesific
@b12khx89
@b12khx89 4 жыл бұрын
@@mortenjacobsen5673 the principle is the same.... You can continue to have your relaxed arm and your rotation/expansion will make the elbow joint close because that's where the hinge is... What the device does is give you feedback that your expansion is the same via feedback on the direction/position of the elbow.... This will in turn make your shot execution more consistent and in return your release.... It works but you have to use it correctly I've tried the whole relaxed draw arm and it just doesn't work for me... A simple way to test is locking the middle fingers to simulate draw/anchor/release and to completely relax your draw arm and keep it relaxed as you release because the idea is that a relaxed arm is supposedly better.... Less errors if we aren't using muscles, right? An even more pronounced way is to hold the draw hand fingers with your other hand and this will allow you to completely relax the arm throughout the whole shot process and you can use LANs/triceps/rhombiods/scaps whatever to expand and release with no draw arm or bicep muscle use Make a note what the hand does and where it ends up because we've used no arm muscles to shoot Now stick a pencil in the crease of the elbow... You'll only need to bend the arm to around 90' and the pencil will hold in the crease.... This is a very slight activity... The skin will hold the pencil and the amount of effort required to hold the pencil you'll notice is so slight it's hardly anything Now repeat the draw... anchor.... and release middle finger or grabbing the fingers simulation of the shot but this time keep a mental note of the pencil and try not to let it drop Let me know the difference between no pencil and pencil exercises
@mortenjacobsen5673
@mortenjacobsen5673 4 жыл бұрын
@@b12khx89 there is No diffrence Just bending by arm 90 degree Will hold any thing in place, if you use the rhomboid to execute your exspansion Will always be the same since your muscles have set range of motion, and at holding there is very little motion reguired, so moving the elbow aroun Will create streach or tension on the trapesius so one could feel the diffrence, but of course we have lactid acid to battle and No amount of clicker magic Will help against that
@b12khx89
@b12khx89 4 жыл бұрын
@@mortenjacobsen5673 you're not doing the test correctly and I'm afraid you're using your arm muscles to keep the hand close to your neck, if your draw arm was relaxed and no closing of the elbow joint, your expansion/release would take your humerus backwards but as you're not controlling the arm, it flies away from the face... You're physically using muscles to close your elbow joint I'm afraid The point of bending your arm was to hold the pencil in place to show you that as much as you like to think you aren't using arm muscles you're using your bicep, otherwise in the first part of the test the hand flies away from the face, it goes back but it doesn't stay close to the neck afterwards... This will eventually end up giving you more variety in your release than actually controlling it a little no matter how good you are Unfortunately I don't think you're ever going to understanding the whole point of the device... It is to help someone identify the location of the draw elbow to aid alignment, give their expansion direction which ultimately results in a consistent release It works but if you're caught up on your elbow being able to grip stuff even at 90' then I can only guess you're using the arrow force line to shoot 🤦‍♂️ Unfortunately there's no way to isolate your rhomboids... Get yourself into shooting position and then tell me how exactly you activate your rhomboids without moving your hands or arms to achieve this

Additional to my previous comment... It's easy to explain the geometry and the mechanics of the shot until the shot breaks. But difficult to explain the geometry and the mechanics of the follow through. "Aim small, miss small" and "catch the baseball on your shoulder". Bollocks. I love trad archery, but I hate that trad archers don't even bother to value all the science behind olympic archery.

This makes no sense. If your drawing hand does not move inward at anchor and your Lan 2 and elbow moves back and around, if anything the space between the bicep and forearm would be slightly larger.
