Neat transition how you faded you and Peach in and out of the video. Nice touch. Living off grid on a boat, I too find generating power from the sun amazing. FYI StarLink is a power hog. Don’t ask me how I know. Cute how Peach knows when you’re celebrating.

Good job. Batteries, inverters and generators are never far from any conversations round here 😅. Do we need to put the generator on?, how full are the batteries?, will we get solar today?. We have a large Royer Lithium battery, equivalent to 14 golf cart batteries! It runs everything, fridge, freezer, starlink, computers etc. We only need to top up everywhere day, or not at all if the sun is shining. Glad to hear Peach is doing well.
@AmandaOffGrid

haha! i hear you! i am always thinking of the power. always checking the power. it's the first thing i do when i wake up, i do it before i go outside for any reason, if i need to do something that requires power i check it and it's the last thing i do before i go to bed. when i check the weather for the week i think of what days will be solar days and what days i'll need to run the gen.... power, power, power!! that's all that seems to matter out here :)!!!

Awesome! Ya know what it's called being disconnected? Freedom. Freedom from being indebted to someone else who can at their discretion screw with your life in one way or another. No one can or will ever look after your safety and security better than can. Might consider a couple of leds in those dark spaces. I've got little tag lights used for car tags in my chicken coops that cost a couple of bucks for a 5 pack. One per coop just for my scaredy birds afraid of the dark coop. Amazing what a single little led using 12vdc and a few milliamps will give you back.

Hi Amanda, glad to hear Peach is starting to heal now, always a worry for our furry friends. Glad to see you got your offgrid power bank up and running. You may already know but keeping batteries in with you might be dangerous due to battery off gassing. I don't know your brand but please look up battery off gassing to see whether this is a concern for you, I understand it can be very toxic. Glad yo see you've had some sun, always nice when our days are so short. Hav a fantastic week.
@AmandaOffGrid
@AmandaOffGrid 13 күн бұрын
Hi :)! yes, if these were lead acid batteries i wouldn't have brought them inside. Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, like the ones I'm using, are sealed and do not off-gas during regular charging, discharging, or storage. in rare cases it might occur if they're overcharged, but it's pretty tough to over/under charge these batteries as they have BMS (battery monitoring system) that shuts them down before that happens :)!

Hey Amanda, I too, get a kick out of playing with the seeming magic of my off grid system so I can completely relate. You certainly have a much better handle on the installation aspect than me, that's for sure! Good for you. I load my fridge with blocks of ice (frozen water bottles) and then turn off my entire system at night to avoid my body needlessly being exposed to nnEMF. No bueno for our own electromagnetic circuitry. There's so much out there nowadays about the dangers as supposedly it completely messes with our mitochondrial energy systems. Worth checking out. Two questions as I'm not familiar with the Renergy line. First is there app which allows Bluetooth information? Secondly, does it integrate with your charge controller?

I can’t speak to the inverter or other Renogy components but I have a 200 amp hour Renogy smart lithium battery and there is an app called DC Home that provides a ton of detail on the battery. I’d guess all smart Renogy components will talk to each other.
@AmandaOffGrid

I don't know. To be honest I haven't looked into that. It did come with a remote access monitor, but I haven't installed it yet. My Victron stuff in my boat has bluetooth which I love! I don't have a charge controller here in the cabin. The batteries will be charged with the generator. BUT yes, it will work with my charge controller in the boat. The wires from the victron charge controller will be directly connected to the batteries (they will bpass the inverter altogether).

That's a significant cost, I would hope the property owner pays your keep for tending to their island (tongue in cheek), regardless if you use extra hydro for your digital work. Good luck finding someone as good as you to manage things. How come you have your dock lines so loose?? Have you any plans to sail this year?
@AmandaOffGrid
@AmandaOffGrid 10 күн бұрын
the inverter? yes, it was a bit, but i'm okay with it as it's going in my boat eventually. plus i'm the only using that inverter :). my dock lines are loose so the boat can move freely in big winds without ramming and/or jerking at the tie bar on the dock. it has saved my boat (and the dock) from some damage i'm sure!!
@Cacheola
@Cacheola 10 күн бұрын
@@AmandaOffGrid Gotcha on the power. The wind can change direction around here in a heartbeat. I'd be mindful about momentum building and ramming the dock or ripping off your cleats. I also don't trust overly loose lines to behave themselves. Might not be a bad idea to use snubbers

@AmandaOffGrid
@AmandaOffGrid 5 күн бұрын
no question you don’t know the answer to is a stupid question 🧡!! it’s a LiFePO4 battery - a lithium battery. these ones are charged via an outlet (with a battery charger) in the wall when the generator is on. you can keep them charged with solar as well, you just gotta get some panels and a charge controller.

Charge your laptop off your inverter no problem just don't run it directly off your inverter. BTW you can many 12 volt appliances will run directly off your batteries via usb hub and power panel plug hub.. with no need to run via the inverter.

Always black off first then red when reconnecting always black on first red on last... To avoid dangerous damaging arc.. from red . positive side,... Also... Double check your choice concerning hook up.. parallel vs in series. I recently had a dual battery 12 volt 100 amp hr per battery ( 200 amp hour ) set up. I had this system setup up in parallel... I noticed my bank reading was low.. I tested my batteries individually finding one was charging the other was also charging but not holding a charge properly. End result to closes battery to my main out service was not getting an equal charge discharge rate thus it damaged the one of the two batteries as a result. It took about 3 years but it did damage the battery to the point of no return,., my point is,,, parallel setups can be damaging to one of the two batteries,,, ad often is. So carefully consider your system type. I suggest you ask a qualified electrician to guide you if you aren't 100% sure... hope this helps.
