I live a few miles away, apparently over 100 people shot and buried locally - the area was designated a special location by the IRA cause of the prison and a grenade factory, so no ambushes were taking place, this led to the british sending multiple intel officers in civilan clothes there from Cobh, who promptly disappeared - if someone was picked up in the city they were sent here for interrogation and execution - 20 plus freemasons and YMCA members, plus postmen, who were spying for the english sent here, also a german sailor who robbed a priests watch post truce, plus a dublin man who was pro treaty spy, the new Gardai were sent to find his remains in 1924 - my neghbours great grandfather and his brothers ( one of whom was executed on the street by cameron highlanders after his house was raided, the scottish man in charge was picked up the street outside his barracks in cobh post truce and taken to sing sing and shot ) were sentrys here - he still has ammo boxes from the war - the best book i read on it by far is - Gerard Murphy " The year of disappearances, policital killings in Cork 1921 - 1922 "

Of. all the videos you have presented.. this was the eeriest by far.. as you walked down those steps to the gated entrance.. we could feel the presence of those who died there.. A prison beneath a cemetery.. cannot think of anything that would be so intimidating.. And that you did this in complete silence after that point.. going down yet again.. this time thru the gate.. allowing us to peer within .. Our imaginations run wild.. our hair stands at the backs of our necks.. We can sense the fear of those upon whom that door closed.. taking away the light of life.. Masterful presentation Davy.. you said so much by saying nothing.. allowing the eerie quietness to speak for itself.. brilliantly done… Slan mo chara..💜💙☘️🌹

What cup and pot.? (those things way at the back ?) Thats a skullery. They were first used to stack bones in, then to lock bodies in to deter graverobbers. After 2 or 3 days the bodies would be no use to doctors. Theres one just beside me. Exact same stonework even. I remember rumours that there was a tunnel underneath the road It wouldve been there when Cromwell camped at the church gates, 3 miles from Dublin (at that time) This was for people who sing a bit too much. It just occurred to me would the prisoner have been allowed a candle at night, with the door shut ? Sealed in like that youre gonna burn up a lot of oxygen and replace it with fumes ?

Hi man. Unfortunately a lot of lineage archives were destroyed in the 1916 rising so sometimes that can be quite a challenge. FamilySearch is a website with a lot of the records. I suggest you put the surname of your ancestor in their and try to filter by Derry. Best of luck !
