Just a guess but I'd say the speaker sizes in the app would be based off the kenwood series speakers and it would set the crossovers for those speaker sizes...possibly eq to get those speakers to a flater response as a bass line....that's what I would do

That is a way cool feature that should be incorporated into headunits these days. You could do so much more with the app than doing it on the headunit. Now if they could make it a standard to put a digital audio output. Either Toslink or Spdif would be nice. Great video Robert!! 👌

Ran the X704 for a few days before switching it out. Not a fan of the sound even with EQ adjustment the highs were either overwhelming or the music sounded dull. Also at higher volumes the distortion was much more noticeable than the $100 ish JVC and Pioneer I tested before it. Same vehicle, speakers, etc. I'm running the 80 PRS and am much happier. First head unit I've owned that had virtually no audible distortion at near max volume using the internal amp.

Please get an opinion and answer from you.. I dig between the Alpine CDE-196DAB and the Kenwood KDC-X7200DAB and please i care about the technical aspects which of the two has the edge I want in my BMW e90 with one of the two radio still min. 2 power amplifiers connect on the one hand the Alpine PDX V9 for the front system partially active i.e. medium high note with active soft from Audison K4e and and the underseat woofer Audison Apbmw s-2ohm over an eton mini 300.2 and still stop the rear loudspeaker in the hut tray. Plus a bandpass subwoofer that plays through the skisack which then also runs over the Alpine PDX V9... I like the kenwood: the design, display length, 4v preamplifier RCA, and the connectors for aux, usb rear. I like to play music via USB nothing else so no CDs are used. But sound tuning settings are also very important to me. What can the Alpine do more than the Kenwood KDC-X7200DAB... 🤔 request for an opinion and which would fit better in my case. Sound quality is also very important to me. Sincerely 🙂👍🏻 wich is better for me??

Hey Rob, I hope all is well. I’m in the market for a decent HU after my fairly new JVC took a 💩 it was a refurbished x370bts it only had a 90day warranty. So I need a deck that has 4-5 volt, 6ch. pre amp outputs. I almost just bought this x304, for $160 from Crutchfield However he’s is where the trouble starts. I’m using the deck to power some small tweeters. So I’m very thankful I seen this video first. Cause I don’t want to be clipping my tweeters before the majority of the pre-amp voltage hits 4volts. Any info for another head unit? Must be single din. Anyone has some info please comment the model number. Thanks

I've always used Alpine single DIN head units and they are bulletproof with great build quality. I picked up a nib Kenwood excelon x501 for my nephew that he had never used. Not quite an 80prs but definitely great budget head unit for SQ build or SPL build. I'm getting just over 4 volts pre out before clipping. Also very capable on the processing side of things with lots of features but definitely not Alpine build quality. From the volume knob to the buttons mushy and hard to turn almost crunchy LOL. They definitely could have put a rubber band around the volume knob so you can turn it but nevertheless it's a really good budget head unit. I think you could pick it up for $150 just a guess I forget what it was selling for. Rob if you have the time I would love to see it tested.

Damn, I have the KDC-X303. It's about identical, I think the only difference is the bluetooth chip is different. I must say I absolutely love this thing, had no idea it was an 80 PRS killer though, lol! I'm running NVX component 2 ways in my front doors, coaxial 2 ways in my rear doors, all off a Kicker CXA 300.4. My low end is a Skar SDR-12 D2 getting about 800 watts RMS off a Pioneer GM-D8601, in a Fox Acoustics ported underseat box for my quad cab Dodge truck. Gains set on a scope, verified it does go clean up to 35, though I don't run it that high. Sound quality has been absolutely great, and besides a software issue which was fixed with a quick update when I first got it, it's been rock solid. Assuming the only difference seems to be the bluetooth chip, if you really need to save a buck grab an X303. My buddy has an X302 in his BMW which seemed about identical when I went through the menus on it, not sure what the difference is for the X302. By the way if anyone has any strange settings menu issues with this, in my case I couldn't get into audio control sometimes, just update the firmware. Kenwood has the firmware and all the information on their website, it loads onto a USB flash drive. Great video, happy thanksgiving to everyone celebrating it today!

The auto EQ feature is the reason you buy pioneer. It's sets up your DSP better than you ever could by ear, unless you are a master tuner. The problem is, people aren't used to hearing a well set up system, so they bash the Auto EQ. Even if you don't like the initial setup, all the settings are adjustable, so at the very least it sets up an incredible foundation to work with. Volts and Watts are not how we measure sound quality. This is like eating chicken nuggets till you're stuffed, and saying you eat well. SQ nerds understand. Appreciate your channel, bro!

Agreed! Always preferred Pioneer SQ over everything besides Alpine & Eclipse. Alpine head units in my opinion are the best you can get these days. The build quality is excellent and you can feel the difference within seconds of using one. The SQ of Alpine is very accurate as well.

Isnt there a difference between clipping and distortion? Ths thing wont touch the PRS-80 but for a budget headunit seems to be a good investment.

@HifiVega 2 жыл бұрын
I only tested the internal amp to clipping and if you’re using the built in amp you’re kind of missing the whole point of the 80prs. The RCA’s were measured to 1% thd

@@HifiVega Your absolutely right about the internal amp and the 80-PRS. It is best used 3 way active through the RCAs. My comment was simply that unit you were testing is great for a budget unit but no where close to the 80-prs..The question about clipping and distortion was just to seperate the two as different things. Clarification is all

Just found this vid and love it bro. Curious as to how the RCA output would compare with benchmarks from the old SQ decks like Nakamichi or Eclipse 5303R. Also, any idea on the output impedance of the RCAs. I know back in the day we measured my old Eclipse 5303R and the RCA outputs were 5 volt 55 ohm, whereas many of the other SQ decks only did 4 volt max around 110 ohm and the eclipse had the best output curve over the entire volume range compared to the others.

You should also test the RCA outputs under a load ( powering an amp ). Usually you will get different / more accurate or " Real world" numbers on voltage and at what volumes you reach it. Most electrical signals in general will change or act differently under a load. Just Fyi, Love the reviews!

So what do you think is the better single-din unit I wanted to put one in a classic car is it the DH 80 PRS pioneer is it the Kenwood is it the Sony I'm doing a three-way speaker in the back base tube or box and single highs in the front if knowing that helps at all which will probably be driven by 2 amps a four-channel and one amp just for the base

My jvc kw-r940bts has pretty much the same settings. It’s a double din with a similar layout to your pioneer and was only $99. The stuff like car type and speaker size compensates for deficiencies and seems to work pretty well. If you have a passive front stage changing the tweeter size helps match their output to the mids. Overall I’ve been really impressed

Just open it, and do same on 80prs. You will see diference in quality parts. This Kenwood is waaay worse. Currently is 80prs best 1 din radio in his price range. And for quite a lot of years now. Decent sq sound and a lot of audio settings. Also multiline screen, which is today hard to find on 1din car radios. His problem is not suporting Flac format, and now very popular spdif/coax digital output which doesn't have them. Please be so kind and do some similar tests on new series of Joying Android 10!

80PRS KILLER.?? I think not!!! okay...Flac...if this would have a optical output it would win..But why put the volume at 75%? I had a pioneer prs80..and i gain matched it to full volume..Because the PRS does not distort at full volume...And when you take full volume on the headunit doesn't that mean less stress on the amps??
@HifiVega
@HifiVega 3 жыл бұрын
The reason I mentioned 75% volume is because that’s what a lot of manufacturers recommend when setting the gain. I suppose they assume you’re not setting the gain with an o scope or dd-1. But I set my gains the same way you do.
