Most 3D scanners are using some sort of light, whether LED's, infrared, or lasers, and it uses lenses to capture the reflection of that light, and determine the shape of an object via triangulation.
The problem is, reflective and dark or black surfaces scatter and absorb light, which means the scanner can't see it, and can't get good data. AESUB scanning spray makes nearly ANY object scan quickly and easily.
AESUB is an aerosol spray designed specifically for 3D scanning. Existing solutions like foot spray, chalk spray, baby powder, etc can work, but generally leave a huge mess, which you have to clean off the parts and your facility, and they can even damage surfaces, like leather or paints. They can also build up in areas, meaning the scan won't be accurate, with extra bumps and things in there.
With AESUB, they disappear by themselves -- with ZERO cleaning. They have a few different blends, and they all disappear within a few hours -- "sublimation", they call it, which is defined as " the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas state, without passing through the liquid state"
The coatings are also homogenous, meaning they're consistent in thickness, and go on super smooth without significant build-up. There are some technical videos out there showing how consistent it really is, even for metrology-level scanning. I'll get into the specific micron thicknesses in a moment.
AESUB works by creating a matte, light-colored surface on the part, which makes a great projection screen for the scanners. And yes, all the colors of aesub (blue, orange, white, yellow, and green) are white in color - there’s no blue spray, it’s all white. Except for the transparent version - for scanning full color.
You can get about 4 square meters out of the 400ml can, if you’re spraying it on thick, and it’s got a 5-year shelf life, so you wont need to worry about it going bad if you don’t use it - it’s a great tool for the tool chest, and if you do a lot of scanning, you’ll find it to be a huge help.
AESub is designed to work in virtually all 3D Scanning applications such as:
automotive
engineering
aerospace
energy sector
tooling industry
architecture
plastic design/art
research & development
and many more …
The biggest thing about aesub is how it sublimates into the atmosphere - basically, it disappears completely, with virtually zero residue on the part. That means you don’t have to clean your parts after scanning, and you’re not getting a bunch of powder or paint into the crevices of the part. In a lot of cases, post-cleaning is a huge pain, so this product not only makes scanning easier, but it reduces post-cleanup significantly - by eliminating the cleaning entirely.
AESub comes in a variety of formulas to best fit your needs -- whether you're covering large areas, coating very small objects, or even using a clear spray for scanning in full color, we've got you covered with 6 different versions.
Aesub Blue
Evaporates in: about 2-4 hours
Layer Thickness: 8 - 15 μm
Best for: just about everything
Aesub Orange
Evaporates in: 12-24h
Layer Thickness: 2 - 6 µm
Best for: applications that need require more time, or if you want a slightly thinner coating
Aesub Green
Evaporates in: 6h
Layer Thickness:~10-20 µm
Best for: HUGE objects that need to be coated with a spray gun, like a boat or a car
Designed for use with a spray gun
Works in marine environments
Aesub Yellow
Evaporates in: 20 minutes
Layer Thickness: less than one micron
Best for: very small parts with fine details, where you need metrology-level data collection
Aesub Transparent
Evaporates in: a few hours
Best for: Objects that also need to be scanned in full color, or featureless objects which have color texture for tracking
Aesub White
Evaporates in: well, it doesn't, it's basically washable spray paint
Layer Thickness: ~7 µm
Best for: Objects that need to be scanned over the course of several days
Available and in-stock at visionminer.com/aesub, this spray has been a game changer for us here at Vision Miner. It literally makes unscannable objects scannable -- incredibly convenient, no mess to clean up, super easy and quick to apply, it's literally a game changer.

I used to use AESUB but have now switched over to ATTBLIME. It is better in performance and less hazardous from my personal experience

5:45 great summary. I've done some tests in our temperature controlled cmm room (20 C, 40% RH, brushed metal), and with a light coating sharp edges begin to sublimate within 2h, with the part fully clear of the spray after 6h. You really don't want to spray the part white, just get the reflections down. I see the benefit of the orange as being a very thin and very uniform coating, more than their competitors or even the aesub blue. To get an idea of how thick the orange should be (2-6 microns), a sharpie mark on polished metal is about 30 microns. A red blood cell is 8 microns in diameter and 2 microns thick. Your part really shouldn't be white! farrrrr too much spray.

Once again very informative video! To scan 1/10scale RC cars parts (most of these parts will fit in a 7cm cube), which hobby grade scanner would you suggest? I'm talking about your Einstars, Einscan-S*, Revopoints etc, do you have any advice?
@VisionMiner
@VisionMiner Жыл бұрын
Frankly I would not suggest a hobby grade scanner.... but the Einstar will get you there! We're big RC fans here, but just know the hobbyist machines really don't compare to the professional ones. For $959 though, the Einstar is a good deal :)

@@VisionMiner the Einstar is amazing for $1000. You can't possibly believe people will spend $10k on a scanner. Even used they're 10k. This industry needs an enema.

having read the MDS and SDS of the blue formula, appears to be in the same ballpark of dangers as classic spray paint formulas. probably safe enough unless you insist on smoking a cigarette whilst applying it, or make a habit of breathing it, or attempt to substitute it for fish food.

Can I use AESUB Transparent to scan black objects? Cause I saw that it leaves a frozen (whitish) effect, when sprayed on..

Did you ever figure out an answer to whether or not you can use the clear on black? I’m trying to decide on the clear or orange. I have a lot of objects that contain bell. I really would like to preserve the color information if I can.
@BrickBazooka
@BrickBazooka 9 ай бұрын
@kenlucas5849 no still not yet. I think If you want color scans with less geometry information, you pick photogrammetry and not a 3d scanner.

I would not use this for human scans..... for hair, get a scanner that does a good job with hair, like the Einscan H or the Einstar :) They use infrared light to pick up the dark colors of hair :)
