when i finished watching this series I was seriously overwhelmed and could not speak for 1 hour; I was just completely trying to wrap my head around everything that just happened and all the emotions I had. Only after could I really put words into what I thought about this series. This series just has so many layers wrapped up in it that its just something to marvel at and dissect.

It amazes me how many people don't pick up on that. She is as loyal to the cause as Silco was before he found Powder. She is an absolute hard ass bitch, but she's got her own sort of integrity. I would say she's one of my favorite characters if my list wasn't so long as to make that just silly in this show.

@@wesleyking6713Agreed. I'm saddened that most people keep calling her a traitor when all she's done has been absolutely loyal. She only "betrayed" her leader when she felt like they'd betrayed her first. That's like saying I'm only allowed to vote for one political party once I've made my choice and then never change my mind even when circumstances have changed. I.e. she didn't stab Vander in the back, she told him exactly what she expected and when he didn't act that way anymore, she's well within her right to put her loyalty into someone who does. Case in point: she threw herself in front of Silco at the explosion in episode 3. It cost her her arm but it could have well cost her her life. That's the kind of loyal soldier she is.

This series is a master class in story telling. No one is all bad. No one is all good. And everyone is motivated by their idea of what is right. This should be required study for writers of shows.

An interesting detail: When Jinx walks in with the platter.. we're all distracted by what could be under it. But: She's using the Atlas gauntlets. The left one seems to be powered up - the blue parts are brightly lit, but the right hand one broken in the fight with Sevika doesn't seem lit - so it still weighs it's normal amount. This is a weight that dropped Vi to the floor instantly. She would have to be unnaturally strong to do this - we see her shaking off her right arm when she takes it out of the gauntlet, which indicates it was a strain.

I noticed a while back when somebody was talking about the lore of the gauntlets nearly weighing a ton without the magic anti-gravity effect powering them. I had to go back and double check which one she was wearing. Sure enough, it was the 'broken' one, meaning she now basically has shimmered-up Deckard's strength without the nasty deformities. She could've easily killed Caitlyn just by punching her, but knew that would only ensure there'd be no chance of reconciliation with Vi if she were to do so.

Well. The series of reactions has been an absolute pleasure to watch. Sophie is probably the ONLY reactor ive watched to understand the nuance of this shows characters all in a first time watch. Her understanding of so many misunderstood or misrepresented characters was amazing. 99% of ppl are like VI & JINX = GOOD OTHERS = BAD Ive seen so many times Viktor is treated with suspicion from his introduction because he is pale, disabled and has an accent ( the "i dont trust him" crowd) Ive seen so many people write Marcus off as a douche who was self-serving rather than one of the best written characters in the show. Sophie understood and was empathetic to both of these characters And Silco, my personal fav character of the show, she represented him fairly and saw him as the flawed and complex character he was. I started watching Sophies vids for Vampire Diaries and Originals and those are great shows and her reactions top notch,but lets face it there arent the most cerebral of shows requiring deep thought, her Breaking Bad and Arcane reactions really shows how attentive and atriculate of a reactor she is... Loved every mintue of this series 😊

Indeed, she has found the right balance of observant, insightful, invested, and empathetic, that she doesn't miss much from either the text OR subtext of the show. Aside from, of course, nods and references to Runeterra at large that haven't really been touched on yet in the show. Not that missing the lore context would necessarily make the viewing experience or story any less complete, mind you.

@@troikas3353 He is not an emotional abuser. He does not isolate her, as she has talked quite a lot with all of the other people working for Silco, he never tries to break her confidence or scold her for things that aren't her fault, and outside of that one scene in episode 7, he's never let his emotional dependence on her control the way he talks to her. The only one who was blindly obsessed with Jinx is Vi, and Ekko technically calls her out on this, as does Caitlyn.

@@smileyhappyface5864 This is such a toxic take on the show. Silco enabled Jinx into a killing machine that kills Ekko's friends with no remorse. Vi on the other hand just wanted to be there for her sister after being involuntarily locked up in prison for years. Jinx killed Silco because at the end of the day she knows who will love her unconditionally. You Silco defenders turn a interesting morally grey character into some dad of the century and its disgusting.
@troikas3353

@@smileyhappyface5864You know an abusive manipulator is well written when the fictional characters gaslighting even starts working on the audience. He's a textbook emotional abuser, their relationship was a toxic codependence built on obsession and how their deeply unhealthy coping mechanisms fed each other and everything he does only makes her worse. He murdered her family, took no responsibility for it even as he watched her spiral mentally from misplaced guilt for years because taking responsibility risks her leaving him and he'd rather she suffer at his side than not be under his control, he stripped her of her agency, tried to murder her sister again, isolated her from any influence other than himself, and bathed her in blood for his own benefit while either not seeing or not caring that it was destroying her. He's one of the most grotesque villains in recent fiction. Vi and Powder are both his victims in this story.
@cos0
@cos0 5 ай бұрын
@@lotus2001 Yeah, Silco is an "emotional abuser", but that doesn't mean that he didn't take her in, cared for her, and loved her as any parent should. I get it's easy to point out what Silco does as twisted, but when your options are either being at the top of the food-chain in the undercity versus the bottom, I think it's a no-brainer what any wise person would choose for him and his crew. If that means that you operate with an iron hold, then so be it. And not to mention, Piltover's disdain for them as well. They couldn't even accept Vander, Vi, Ekko, and Benzo, who are the best of them. It amazes me that people can't see that Powder's downward spiral would still happen regardless if she was with Vander and his crew, or, Silco and his; and any attempts to mitigate her mania would be futile. Because the world they live in, isn't a world of peace where you can foster rehabilitations for people like Powder. Their world is survival. And she would be broken either way, because fighting for independence was inevitable. Also what would you have Silco do? Find the undercity's best psychiatric therapist? Get a grip. I think the biggest takeaway from this show is that you can't have the luxury to fix these character flaws while the duality of The Undercity vs Piltover exists. And Silco never lost sight of that reality.
@Hohum37
@Hohum37 5 ай бұрын
When I first watched the tea party scene, when Jinx is saying Silco didn't make Jinx, and that it was Vi who made her, I thought she was *blaming* Vi, but she isn't. She's *thanking* her, and denying Silco the credit. "But he didn't make Jinx. You did" ... "You never left. I always heard you. Your voice. Pushing me. Picking me up when all the colors were black. You're the reason I'm still alive." She doesn't think of Powder and Jinx as facets which are primarily "innocent/good/kind" and "mentally ill" respectively, she sees them as "weak/ineffective" and "strong/confident/capable". To her, both aspects have serious trauma, which I'm sure she doesn't want. "Being" Jinx isn't embracing madness, it's seeking empowerment. After she kills Silco, she doesn't have a huge breakdown, Mylo's shade doesn't taunt her that's she lost another parent, she doesn't kill Caitlyn, a target of her previous hatred, she just says things have changed, and leaves. "Here's to the new us." it seems quite ambivalent, considering.
@smileyhappyface5864
@smileyhappyface5864 5 ай бұрын
Yup. Something so amazingly subversive about Jinx's character is that despite being insane, she is by far the most reasonable person in the undercity if you see things from her perspective. She sits all of them down at the table and lets Silco have a say even after she thought he might be giving her up, considered what both him and Vi said, never pulled any trigger until someone was already in actual danger, and her words at the end show a level of emotional maturity that I don't think even Vander had. "I thought that maybe you could love me like you used to, even though I'm different. But you changed too. So, here's to the new us." Without context, it sounds like an incredibly on-the-nose example of a healthy breakup, and in context, I think that's exactly what it's supposed to be.

The rocket doesn't use hextech explosives. Remember, the gemstones can power anything. She places the gemstone in a compartment and the runes light up. It powers the launcher to fire the rocket, but like the gauntlets its just a power source so the launcher is reusable. The rocket itself is just a massive version of her grenades. When viktor defuses one we see tiny glass rods with different colored liquids. The explosives. When the rocket slides open it shows the same multicolored liquids. But in vast quantities. She finished the weapon for Silco. He would have been so proud.
@DarthRayj

It seems like the Hextech also enlarged the rocket significantly. It probably fires mini-rockets that aren't much stronger than her grenades normally, but then the Hextech launches it and makes it bigger so it'll be far more devastating

I've been watching reactions for this show for a while but you're actually the first to get the symmetry of Powder/Jinx's actions from Ep 3 and launching the missile in this. It's similar, yes, but it's not the SAME. The motivations are different now, even if the act is symbolically the same. In Ep 3, she wanted to HELP. Here, she wanted to HURT. One the best reaction to the finale episode! My thoughts exactly, that the Vi can't accept that Powder is different now, but Powder lived as Jinx for a long time and it is part of her too and Jinx see clearly that Vi is rejecting this, and finally that last nail to the Powder's coffin... the last Silco's words "Don't cry, YOU are perfect" ... not like he told her before "Jinx is perfect", but "YOU are perfect". Sadly Silco (also good point about the talk with Vander statue, and seeing his perspective) was only one, who accepted her without conditions, as who she is... and he tried in twist way with gun in hand protect her, whe he was seeing that Vi's words are hurting her. P.S. Also tragedy is that Vi and Jinx are not allowed to have time to start to understand each other anew in these circumstances...

First one Ive seen to catch the "make her go away" reffernce. Yes, Jinx vuews Cait as a monster, this was hinted at in ep7 when Vi pick Cait up on the bridge, we see it from Jinx perspective and Ciat is depicted with hons and jagged teeth. This is probably also what connects tot he "But you changed too" line. She was testing Vi, holding her to her promis to always "make the monsters go away". Vi refusing was, to Jinx, the proof that Vi didnt "lover her like she used to". Its all quite subtle, but its all there.

But Hextech weapons is the monster Jayce created. The Hex Core is the monster Victor created. Silco is the monster Vander created, The undercity is the monster Piltover created. And so on... The shows core theme is duallity (according to the creators) and its portrayed pretty much everywhere throughout the series. This applies also in this conclusive title

11:20 No, he didnt take it. Jayce brokered the deal, he set it up. Then Silco goes back to present the terms to his team (which is basically only himself) and Jayce takes the deal to his side, which is what he is doing right now. Both sides makes their decision, they met up and deliver their decision or, if needed, renegotiate. Silco talking to Vanders statue was him trying to convince himself he should give Jinx up. Its for Zaun, his lifes ambition, the thing he has said, and believe, there is nothing not worth sacrificing for. But he cant do it... he know he cant do it, hence the monologue. "Is there anything as undoing as a daughter" Jinx has undone Silco. Everything he was, everything he built, everything he sacrificed, his ambition is crumbling away in front of the defenseless girl he found crying in the rain almost a decade ago. Its quite beautiful really... and its from the fakking villain. God, these writers are something else.

You know jinx is the monster vi created that’s why this episode is called the monster you created

There's a lot of monsters in this episode. Jinx is the monster Vi created. Zaun is the monster Piltover created. Jayce is the monster Mel created. Victor is the monster he himself created. Mel is the monster he mother created. Mel's mom is the monster she says Mel created (in a messed up "look at what you made me do" kind of way) Singed has the monster he created right there in the final frame with him 😉

Silco became a father & finally understood his brother. Willing to give up all his hopes and dreams for Jinx. Unfortunately Jinx didn’t take “Is there anything more undoing than a daughter” the right way and miss interpreted, his words thinking he would betray her. She did not believe she was someone even worth someone else giving up their dreams for her?. it really is a great tragedy. Now Jinx is alone. Her against the world & she is suicidal. She did try to end it at the bridge when Powder resurfaced realizing she was fighting her friend and she just wanted the pain to stop. Silco just could not lose her so did anything to save her life. 😢😢 season two is gonna be all about Jinx’s death by either Caitlyn or her sister. I think it would be a mistake to kill her. But Jinx would be fine with it I think.😢😢

Silco thought that Jinx was struggling with hurt and abandonment, like he did after Vander betrayed him. And yes, that was some of it of course. But Jinx's main problem was guilt, and she never got the chance to heal and recover from that.

I have to disagree with one of your statements that Vi will never love Jinx. You gotta remember Vi has only been aware of Powders drastic change for like a week max and yet even though finding out she's lowkey a terrorist and idolizes Vanders killer Vi is still fighting for her. I truly believe Vi is the heart of the show and her connection with her sister is vital. Even though this episode was tragic it also had moments of hope, Vander telling Vi that her sister still needs her was not some throw away line I think its laying the groundwork for season 2 and what will come. Thanks for the reaction to a wonderful show!

Since you might have gotten a taste for animated shows noch (which also appeal more to adults) you might like watching "Invincible". I can really recommend it. It's a bit similar to "The Boys".

I enjoyed your reaction very much, though I don’t think it’s fair to say Vi can’t love Jinx. Her sister is unwell, and wanting her to get better doesn’t mean she doesn’t love her. You were the first person I’ve seen point out how tragic and detrimental it really was for Silco to call her perfect with his dying breath. I was surprised you didn’t realize that her belief that Vi couldn’t love her was a result of Silco’s manipulation and her own insecurities, but not based in reality.

2:00 Vi is not wrong tho... Jayce killed ONE kid, sure... but, as Vi puts it, by sticking his head in the sand he has indirectly killed thousands of them. Being upset now, just because this time he actually saw it happen, is rather hypocritical. Jayce is a good but very naive and inexperienced man. I absolutely understand why he is feeling this way. But Vi is the one living in reality.

I definitely agree that the thing Jinx wanted most was for Vi to still love her as she is now and not ask her to change. Because Jinx hates Powder and never wants to be her again And maybe episode 1 Vi could have grown to love Jinx? With her rage and her hatred for the enforcers/topside and her desire to go to war. But she's changed too much since then thanks to her experiences with people like Vander and Ekko and Cait, and the person she's become could never love someone like Jinx

Thank you for a wonderful review of Arcane Season 1. I really enjoyed the journey with you. Here are 2 follow up videos for you to watch and I hope you might do a review of them also. The first is the official music video of “Enemy” by Imagine dragons. It closely relates to episode 7 and the relationship between Echo and Jinx when they were young. The second is “Gasoline” and it pretty much sums up the mental state of Jinx and how it deteriorates through the season. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGbXhKKXf55ml8Usi=4yGnoEp3YJJT4dg8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqTYmqGBa552prMsi=3ZhFKMy18kBmTkdL

I have been waiting for this! Finally someone who effortlessly gets the dilemma at the end. How Vi and Jinx view their past differently and how, imo, Vi kind of pushes Jinx over the edge making her look the past she's trying to forget in the eyes and losing that fight. Most people I've seen get caught up on whether or not Silco meant what he said in the end, missing the point entirely that it doesn't matter! What matters is that Jinx killed her father, AGAIN! The defeat in her eyes breaks my heart every time. And like you said: she is painfully aware of what she is becoming (perfect analogy with actual mental health issues) but in the end she just says f*ck it, if the world wants me to be a monster, I'll be a monster. This f*cking show!
