Fact : the fremen came from Earth, arount 23 000 years ago, wandering between planets, called the Zenzunni wanderer. Their culture was muslim based, but they incorporated several other cultural/religious things in their travel from planets to planets, this is why they have these diversity in people. That's in the books of the Dune universe ! and the writer of the books in the sixties, Frank Herbert, studied a lot the desert people cultures and religion on Earth.

"Is it a real prophecy or is it fabricated?" Both. Paul being the Kwisatzch Haderach, the first male Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother (father?), is real. Paul having foresight as well as past-sight is real. The Fremen Lisan al Gaib prophecy is fabricated. So are the fifty-odd similar messianic prophecies scattered round the galaxy. The Bene Gesserit made up *all of them* so that wherever the KH appeared, he would have a supporting religion.

Yeah. This is an aspect of Dune that throws some people off it seems. Genetically engineered Super-human psychic warrior with foresight/hindsight? Real. ... Prophecy claiming him as a divine messiah?, totally fake :P

Bene Gesserit school (or order) are not the only major player in the Dune universe : there are the Bene Tlelaxu, Ixians, Suk medical school, Mentat school, Space guild navigator school....

Dune saga is one of the most famous and influential saga of the SF litterature (6 original books from 1965 to 1985 by Frank Herbert, but 16 more written by his son Brian Herbetr, and Kevin J. Anderson), equal to Lord of the rings (by Tolkien) or the foundation saga (by Isaac Asimov). It is one of the inspiration for Star wars, and other SF movies and books

Great reaction my man! This movie absolutely blew me away, i have some minor nit-picks, (being a hardcore fan of the book series), however as a whole i think this is easily my favorite movie of all time and is undeniably one of the greatest films ever made - regardless of genre! IMO it's at least somewhere in the top 10, and could be as high as somewhere in the top 5.

Thank you! I appreciate that. As a new fan I love how easily I became engulfed in the storyline and universe. Now we have to wait for Part 3 smh

Dune, the source novel, and the 5 subsequent novels in the bestselling sci-fi series are wholly the creation of author Frank Herbert. Denis Villeneuve and his team (cinematographer, production designer, composer, set decorators, costume designers, sound editors, and special effects crew) all excel in audiovisual storytelling, but this movie would not exist without the talented mind of Herbert. He was the true creative genius here. He’s up there with J.R.R. Tolkien when it comes to epic worldbuilding. And both of them influenced many later stories in their respective genres (sci-fi and fantasy). The 2 latest movie adaptations are good, but they were truncated to fit the time limitations of the film format and were simplified a bit to reach a wider audience. The books are much deeper. Frank Herbert’s detractors may claim that Dune was inspired by Lawrence of Arabia and other stories. That is a fair assessment. However, they are wrong when they say his work is a copy/paste of earlier writers. Like many creators, Herbert was inspired by stories and themes that existed before him, but he took these inspirations and created something distinctly different with his highly detailed novels-he invented a new culture (Fremen) all by himself and without a team of collaborators, unlike George Lucas. Furthermore, Lucas and Lucasfilm cribbed several ideas from Herbert for the Star Wars franchise, without altering them to make them noticeably different. As far as I know, it was done as recently as The Mandalorian. I have not checked out all the mediocre Disney/Lucasfilm spinoffs, so perhaps there may be more. This is why people who watched Dune for the first time said it reminded them of Star Wars (Dune came first-it was published in 1965). Can’t say I’m that surprised, since Lucas is a filmmaker who relied on the help of many creative people to build Star Wars. Lucas is not a literary novelist who writes alone. He’s not particularly adept at creating complex characters either. Lucas has more style than substance. If you want, I can list the specific examples of when Lucas ripped off ideas from the Dune series.

Im a massive 40k nerd, and for decades ive been amused by the obvious Dune world-building that was blended into 40k from the very start :) . Hell, even Battletech, which has its own immense and deep history at this point, takes ALOT from Dune, especially the structure of the Imperium, and the shadow politics running things in the dark.

I read somewhere that there are over 150 Great Houses in the Landsraad. The Landsraad is the coalition of all the Great Houses in the Imperium. They're basically the check and balance to the Imperial throne's power.
@goblin2bis7075 ай бұрын
In the Dune universe 11 major houses are known, but there are many minor houses if you read the Dune encyclopedia on the web....that's a galactic empire with trillions of people :

Lol. Frank Herbert wrote it back in the 60s. I love Denis Villeneauve's adaptation, but he didn't create the story.
