Corbcorbin does the black magick sound like the sundragon or not even close?
@OFR

@@jimioconnor8039 I have not played the Black Magick sound the same, but similar. The video demos of Sundragon don't sound quite like it given the KZbin and microphones etc. Tim's is the closest, but not as FAT as it does in person. So maybe in person - but I definitely think the Sundragon is exceptional. I bought the standard one, no signature, just under 4k. Sold ALL my other amps when I got it. This sound is pretty close to the real deal: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5qYaoWlo61-ms0

Real guitar stores are magical! I grew up in Brooklyn and our trips as kids to West 48St were always inspiring and special. The atmosphere and vibe was unbelievable - great guitars and great players everywhere! I’m really grateful for guys like you that create content that kind of invokes that atmosphere and vibe via KZbin - bringing these wonderful real brick and mortar guitar stores to us on your channel! Thanks!

Will Roberts hey Will, they’re all just about gone. Matt Umanov on Bleecher is still around, but I haven’t been in there for while- and I heard a rumor that they may be going out too. I’m thankful that I bought most of my “keepers “ years ago. I did find a cool place that’s a throwback- South Side Guitars in Williamsburg. Had some repairs done there- really nice guys and good work.

@jimmyfrombrooklyn8550 5 жыл бұрын
JohnnyArt Pavlou yep! There was plenty of that “hey kid” stuff, but we were kids and the trade off was it was ground zero for guitar. Oz like is a perfect description. I feel bad for kids that missed that and only have Guitar Center type of shops. But then again, they have KZbin, where we had to actually sit there and “drop the needle “ to learn licks.

Tim, I bought a guitar from Clif over the phone having looked at his website first, a Tuttle Telecaster. I think it was the first Tuttle Clif sold. He was kind enough to post a video of you in his store playing the same guitar on his webpage.That was really special for me. I agree that dealing with Clif was so much more enjoyable than the big box stores. His passion for music and his friendship with you were all things we talked about during the transaction. I live in DC, so I waited a few days for the guitar to arrive, tracking it with FEDEX several times a day. When I opened the case I was ecstatic and overjoyed. I would love to purchase again from Clif.

Jose, not sure I know what you are talking about because anybody can play a cover of something it's if you actually play the recordings that they flag you and will take down the video but if you just crank out a few seconds of a riff they cannot do anything about that and when he started playing Whole Lotta Love that's really deceptive because Jimmy played that particular song from the second album through the Les Paul not the Telecaster so that doesn't not sound anything like the studio recording of Whole Lotta Love any Die Hard page guy knows this but when he ended with that riff and slowed it down and held those notes it sounded dead on or real close to Ten Years Gone that was really really sweet and wish you would have played a few bars of that with the telly because he may have used the Tele on Ten Years Gone later on I'm pretty sure but don't quote me on it... but I agree with the other comment that they should have played the Les Paul and the Telly and did a little Communication Breakdown in Dazed and Confused because that's what the Tele and the Supra was most likely used on and that would have been a more accurate demonstration of how this m could create Pages original Studio tones I mean come on now you guys had to have known that and you didn't even bother and just oogled over it... easy to understand though lol

In the mid 1980's I used to hit up the 3 main "old gear" guitar shops in Hollywood down the street from the Original Guitar Center. There was not the fanfare for vintage gear in the "new-digital 80's". "vintage" was your grandma's silver and Model-T Ford's, not guitars and amps. Although some gear was fussed over. A little perspective. One day in 1985 I walked into a used store and a first run Fuzz Face was selling for $600, but also in the store was a mint, tube $100 Vox Pathfinder 'for Thomas Organ Co.' (I bought), a $100 beat to hell, but good sounding orig. tweed Fender Champ, a $150 Danelectro tan/goldish Formica guitar w/ amplified guitar case. And I went next door and bought 3 "as is" Fender amp chassis less their tubes, cabinet, spkr, but otherwise complete. I paid $75 and walked out with a 1963 brownface Bassman, 1965 blackface Bassman w/ master vol mod, and a 71' silverface Twin Reverb with a single silicon transistor input buffer on the input of channel 2, and powered from a DC supply fabricated and tapped off of the bias supply. THAT'S HOW I LEARNED TUBE AMPS! It was before the Groove Tubes manual so schematics were scarce. I paid $20 for 6-8 schematic photocopies of Marshall and Boogie at one store. The Fender amps I committed to memory. Between those three chassis, I had a sweet sounding '65 Bandmaster a buddy grabbed for me at a flea market for $25. It was covered with cigarette burns, and also had a "chopped" portable-into-head '65 Princeton that a neighbor gave me. Lots of 65's...I was born 10/13/65...so am I a pre-CBS hmm. I tried my first mod converting that Princeton it into a Jim Kelly amp. The 6V6 tube seemed so foreign. I had boxes of 6L6, 6L6G, and 6L6GC. Years later I became an electronic organ nut. Still am! A little secret...ah' I better not, you 'vintage' cats might go make guitar amps out of'm. BTW The HAMMOND AO-35 3-SPRING 'NECKLACE' REVERB AMP? It's better off sitting until you can find a 3-spring reverb necklace to go with it. It's the best reverb period imho. Any speaker-out/tap drives it. So universal. The necklaces show up on Ebay.

Very cool store. But, you don't even have to get as exotic as Cliff's inventory to be novel. In my area, it's nothing but big box stores....Deluxe Reverbs, HotRods, Marshall DSL, Vox AC 15 and a smattering of Orange stuff. I've been asking my local store to get in a SuperReverb and Bassman, stating I wanted to hear them and purchase 1. I always get the same answer, "go to the web and buy both. We have a 45 day return. Bring back the one you don't want..." Great place Tim.

northof50now you have an actual guitar store? Moved to a major city. Not one guitar store. Major hobby and living in a city you want to just walk to the different stores. That’s my hobby. Nope nothing left. NYC is the last place I think that still has independent stores but the big box stores and online sales will eventually finish them off.

@@robertwellington2616 Yep! I'm in eastern PA. The Music Zoo, on the Island [Long Island] is about the only place you'll find any high-end stuff. Funny, even looking at some of the manufacturers websites for "dealers" - most are dealers in name only and have very limited inventory if any at all. This is very common in Philly. Sundragon is planning on releasing a more affordable, non limited edition amp, this fall. Not sure where the price will be, but I'm sure that it will be much cheaper than the limited edition models. www.guitarworld.com/news/summer-namm-2019-jimmy-page-announces-standard-edition-sundragon-amp

That amp is one of 50 made and it sells for 50k. I doubt he would ever sell that piece. A true collectors item.

Thanks Tim, what, no "Stairway" at the store? Sorry. I live in L.A. and have not been here yet. The Allen Hinds clips were awesome.

When you play the Zepp/Page Riffage at 9:16, There's actually some footage of Jimmy demonstrating that part of the tune here on KZbin. I think it was in the documentary "It might get loud" but he's using his Lp through his vintage Marshall and wow! Nothing against the "Sundragon" and Tele but no comparison. I'm guessing your take here was more along the lines of Jimmy's studio setup at the time of recording and the setup he used for the demonstration was what he would have used for touring. I much prefer the Les Paul/Marshall sound.

Something else you aren't considering lol. Its actually Jimmy playing in the doc. Jimmy will always sound more like Jimmy than anyone else. Just like Tim will always sound more like Tim than anyone else. Tone is in the hands

@@WickedJester77 I was referring to the sound and tone of the two different amps. Not the the actual playing. I understand that tone is in the hands. I've been playing and chasing tone for 30yrs and have developed an "ear" for tone and gear. If Tim or Page played through both amps you would definitely hear a difference.

For WLOL Jimmy used his black LP custom played thru a Vox . So a tele & supro aren’t going to nail it, as nice as it sounds.
