Interesting….counterpoint…..what if the people they are getting rid of are not because of merit and ability to the job, but instead willingness to look the other way. See it this way, you are Head of Logistics in your company, been there for 7-8 years now and doing great. Then, there is a change in mngt, the owner dies and their son takes over. He has a buddy who knows a side hustle and would require company trucks to do it. You refuse because its illegal. So he revokes a policy his father had in place that didn’t require certain things (aka college diploma) to keep your job only that you can do the work. He then creates strange new job requirements that you can’t possibly meet but coincidentally, match his friend w/ the illegal business venture. So they lay you off, and hire him and then state they don’t have to pay out your unemployment insurance because they can state you were under qualified for the position and no other qualified positions were available (even though there are they just don’t want some one blow whistle). Now, obviously that scenario is heinous and unfair. Now imagine that scenario on a GOVERNMENT level. People using DEIA (because in the executive order they included “Accessibility” meaning people with physical or mental impairments like wheelchair bound people) are essentially trying to make empty positions with people who are willing to break or ignore the law for the benefit of the state and not its people.

You could use that same logic to say that progressives only hire their own or promote people of color in any number of careers. The best way to overcome stereotypes is to produce the best version of yourself in your given field. Good looking people will always have a market. There are plenty of jobs out there where that isn't a part of the equation. If you ran a business would you want the secretary that people see upon entering to be attractive or unattractive? What appeals to most of your clientele and your branding? That's not for you to decide for them. If you want that, start a company and put a beached whale in that role if you'd like.
