"...And now to the raw horsepower, rugged mountainscapes, pulsating diesels, scenic vistas, melodic horns, ringing flanges, and eye-catching blue and silver; and red, white, and blue..."
A fully loaded BC Rail southbound climbs the over 2 % grade near station name signs "Green River" and "Wedge" (between Pemberton and Whistler) on the Squamish Subdivision. The manned mid-train helpers known as the 'Pemberton Pushers' help keep this massive train moving. Filmed b/w 2002-04. Double Ditch Light Productions.

Outstanding capture! That beautiful K5H sound, and three mid-train helpers! What a shame we'll never get to see this in real life now. Thanks for capturing and posting these shots of BCRail in its prime! Dave

So strange how they got 2 diesels in the middle of the train! Never ever seen that being done... I did see some trains with deisels in front and back of the carloads though...

anytime, this practice was also seen alot on the old denver and rio grande western and the southern pacific as well, they'd stack 4 or more units in the middle of a 110 car train, plus another 2 or so on the end. and your right this isn't used that much anymore with the more common use of DPUS and out in my neck of the woods, manned rear end helpers in the mountains.

@ATributeToBCRail how do they make sure all locomotives are working the same power? otherwise wouldnt the front ones be pulling the middle ones if they were going a bit slower? or vice versa... is this complicated or fairly easy?

that's actually not un usual, those diesels are swing helpers placed at a point in the train where they are pulling almost equal to the amount they are pushing as they go upgrade, its usually done, if the helpers are gonna stick with the train for a long time, as they are harder to cut out then rear end or head end helpers/

That'd be a pain in the ass to wait through...Especially if the train was going uphill. Were people actually getting out of their vehicles? It looked like it - Not that I can blame them. That's one powerful train.

the POINT is...that 0:01 - 4:22 is ALREADY long enough, people can give a fuck about the extra 20 seconds extension, and I dont think its replayed footage, the train is too long so that camaraman paused and resumed to save the film.
