right on, take what you need is not the same as take your limit. I'm kind of limited here inland, so I harvest a year's worth of salmon in a month and a half and vacuum pack it in the deep freeze. The same thing applies though, I'm able to catch way more fish than my family can consume but I don't.
@PNWSamson3 жыл бұрын
Good on you man. Same deal, I spearfish hard all summer so I can put my gun away in the winter. I'll be doing some hand harvesting but most likely won't fish until May. Once Nov 15th hits when ling/rock close on the Northern West Coast that is.
@elmenisy3 жыл бұрын
I really like your channel and your devotion for cleaning the ocean and hunting responsibly. I have 2 questions: 1. How come the fish are very chill when you approach them and they're not swimming away quickly, is that common with fish in this area? 2. Do you gut your fish right after you come out of the water before storing them or do you also store them as is?
@PNWSamson3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, happy your enjoying the content! The fish we hunt are fairly easy to approach. You learn how to do it without scaring them though. Move slowly and stay super calm and they often let you creep up to them. As for the fish that I harvest, I try and get a kill shot and then bring em to the surface, stick my knife in there head to ensure they are dead and then cut the gills while there heart is still pumping to bleed them out. Bleeding your fish will help preserve the quality of the meat. I usually don't gut the fish until I'm back on shore or on the boat. Gutting your fish in the water does act like chum though, we don't have sharks to worry about here in BC so to each there own with that one.

@@PNWSamson Thanks a lot for the thorough response, if I visit BC one day hopefully we can take a dip together! Dive safe and enjoy 👌

Sounds good man! That was around 15m I believe. I don't use a dive watch so that's give or take. I've hit 32m on the line but out in the open ocean I don't push it at all. No need to when you can see so much below 15m!
