@@bakthihapuarachchi3447 Spoilers for "The Hedge Knight" Dunk and Egg prequel novella here: . . . Yeah it's like how in the Hedge Knight there was an option for Aerion to withdraw his accusation when Dunk basically had him beat which ended the trial of seven. Lysa could save Ser Vardis' life by withdrawing her accusation but she chooses not to. It's a nice addition to Tyrion's trial by combat because Bronn doesn't do this is the books. My thought is they included it to make Bronn more likable to the audience.

Here is some background on the Targaryens: The Targaryens originally come from a fallen empire in Essos called Valyria. (Essos is the continent where Daenerys is currently residing. Everyone else - the Starks, Baratheons, Lannisters, etc - is on the other side of the Narrow Sea on a continent called Westeros.) Think of Valyria as this fictional world's version of Rome?? Or maybe Atlantis? They were the most "advanced" civilization of their time - in terms of technology and magic. Part of the reason is because they built their dynasty on the backs of enslaved people. Also, they dabbled really deep into magic. So essentially Valyria was a "world power" in their heyday in this fictional world, up until about 300-350 years ago. Then came the "Doom." No one is sure what exactly happened. But a combination of natural disasters (volcano eruptions) and a "plague" (that you'll learn more about later) destroyed Valyria. Note: Was this coincidence? Or did they destroy themselves with their own magic/technology? We don't know! Only a few Valyrian families survived the Doom. Before the Doom, a Targaryen named Daenys had a vision that Valyria would fall. She was able to convince her family and a few other Valyrian families to flee. (It should be noted that the Targs were a minor house in Valyria. So while the Targ family had more power and magic than the average family in this fictional world, they were not the top of the power structure in the Valyrian empire.) The Targaryens relocated to Dragonstone, a small island off the coast of Westeros. At the time, Westeros was a collection of individual kingdoms (e.g. the North, the Vale, the Riverlands, the Westerlands, the Stormlands, the Reach, and Dorne.) Approximately 300 years before GoT, the Targs decided to "unite" Westeros by...conquering them?? And they ruled Westeros for about 280 years before "Robert's Rebellion" toppled the Targ Dynasty. All of the Targ royal family were killed except for 8-yr-old Viserys and newborn Daenerys, who were smuggled across the sea by a few remaining Targaryen loyalists to protect them. Most of their protectors died over the years. And they were continually running out of money and benefactors who would take them in. (They even lived on the streets for a while.) So while this is no excuse for Viserys being a crappy brother and person in general, we can at least understand what made him into the man he became.
@taz24912 жыл бұрын
Yeah. There is a cool animatied movie that explains the Targaryen conquest of Westeros. But I won't recommend it YET as not all GoT actors are revealed yet who did voiceovers (basically telling the story as narrators)
@tariizm1500 Жыл бұрын
Targaryens were not a minor house! there was hundreds or thousands of house in Valyria but there was only 40 dragonlord family and Targaryens were one of 40... and this 40 family ruled Valyria thats mean this 40 family was major house but not just in Valyria also in the world bcz they were dragonlords! minor Valyrian houses are Qoherys, Celtigar and Velaryon etc... and then again Targaryens was not weakest of 40 there is no such an info only info we know from the books is Targaryens were not the strongest of 40 and only dragonlord families we are know is house Targaryen and house Balaerys but after the doom (400 years ago) Targaryens were last dragonlord family alive so that means Dany is last dragonlord/lady alive...

22:22 yes in dothraki culture there is a prophesied figure the stallion who mounts the world and they think it's dany's child Also the reason arya and the stark kids follow is because their father like most northern houses follow the old gods or the wierdwood trees and their mother follows the new gods or the faith of the seven like most of the other houses in Westeros with the exception of the dornish who pray to mother rhoyne and the iron born(people from the iron islands) follow the drowned god

FYI, almost all of the shocking brutal deaths, intrigues and story lines are based at least roughly on actual historical events in human history. EG Parthian kings would pour molten gold down the throats of Roman consuls who went to war them and were captured. IE Marcus Crassus around the time of Julius Ceaser
@DanielOrme2 жыл бұрын
True. Another example is Theon being raised as a ward of the Starks. This is something the Roman empire would do with its vassal states, taking one of their sons to be raised in Rome, a symbol of alliance, but also partly a hostage. Another is the Dothraki, who I've always assumed to be equivalent to Genghis Khan and his Mongol horsemen army.

As hateful as Viserys is, when Dany tells him that Drogo will give him his crown, just for a moment his face transforms & you can almost see the child in him. It's a great piece of acting.

The Starks and Lannisters are the most powerful houses in Westeros at this point in the timeline. Starks are Wardens of the North. Which is bigger than all other 6 kingdoms combined however the Lannisters are Wardens of the South and are to be believed as the richest family in the kingdoms due to the Gold Mines at Casterly Rock which is their seat of power. Like Winterfell is the Norths seat of power
@gunkulator12 жыл бұрын
This is not correct. The Lannisters are the lords of the Westerlands, not the south. Their power derives from wealth more so than from land or people. The northlands where the Starks rule are vast but mostly empty. Their power is mostly a defensive one. This is made clear in one of the first episodes where Cersie explains to Joffrey that the north is too wild and large for any invading army to hold. There is also the issue of Winter which is what keeps the north sparsely populated but also makes it impossible for any invaders to muscle in.

The Lannister's power is financial. They have the most gold and everyone is in debt to them. Their land is rocky and does not support a large population so their army is not large. They can, however, buy mercenaries. Ned and Robert were raised together by John Arryn. The Mad King killed Ned's father and brother and Rhaegar (Mad King's son, Dany's brother) ran off with Ned's sister who was Robert's beloved. John Arryn joined with Ned and Robert meaning The Vale, The North and The Stormlands all declared war against the Mad King.
