This goes for any eatery, not just taco joints. I had an aunt who would look to see if there were a lot of flies inside, and she would look at the condition of the bathroom. If the bathroom was untidy, she would go somewhere else to eat.

Those of my generation remember when Wendy's was the new kid on the block with their big promotion burger the "thick and juicy ". Thick because it had a chunk of meat that put McDonald's to shame. Juicy because it literally dripped burger juice requiring several napkins to eat. When the health conscious group stepped in, the thick and juicy stepped out. So sad. Back in the early seventies when Arby's came on the scene it was like the fine dining of fast food. My mother would take me about once every 3 months to splurge. They had a slicer and would slice your meat right in front of you. Those were the days!

Those restaurants have given up good taste and are now serving 3rd grade foods for the almighty dollar. Making a profit is more important to these companies; than making things the right way.

Some of that is because of FDA regulations. I worked at McDonald's back when they were still using lard. The food tasted great then. When that was banned, they switched to vegetable oil, so the food isn't that good anymore.

Man the Taco Bell in my town got really disgusting for a while. Food all over the kitchen floor, outrageous wait times, everything was greasy as fuck. The restaurant itself was nasty and dirty. But then overnight it all changed. A new manager turned it around and now it’s one of the better fast food joints in town. They are still not true Mexican food by a long shot, but at least it’s edible now.

Domino's has truly improved. I hated their pizza years ago, then my friend bought some to my home. Now I really like it. Pizza Hut has gone down over the years! Most times their pizzas are dry & tasteless.

@TED RICHARDSON, I think managing a fast food outfit required a lot of energy, attention to details and a strong project plan so as to keep on top of all the issues. If one owns a business he is more apt to be attentive to its operation, not sure that a franchisee has so much stake in the operation as a complete owner.

Chinese restaurants. They are never apologetic. Several times the workers had colds and were coughing and sneezing while cooking and handling the food and money. Girl actually had running nose at check out. I got metal staples twice and almost got them stuck in my throat. They didn't care. So I quit that restaurant. I started a new restaurant where on 2 occasions there was black hair in my lo mein. That was 2 years ago and haven't had chinese food since. Now if I have a craving for it I make it myself minus the hair, staples coughing , sneezing and dirty snotty hands.

The quality of everything has been declined over the years just to try to make more of a profit while doing whatever it takes to make the product cheaper & cheaper. Almost all of these beloved classics & others like Pizza Hut have changed their original recipes so drastically that the product just isn't good anymore. They think they are fooling the consumer while using chemicals & artificial ingredients to replace what once used to be real wholesome ingredients. That's why people are getting sick after eating the crap. It's very sad how the business ideology has changed.

I stopped eating at several of these years ago, the others I stopped just after college, and some I never went to. I don't frequent any of these on this "list" at all any more, and haven't for years. Fried foods are not good for you period, and they're fried in cheap oil that turns into the "bad" oil when heated; the meats (chicken and beef) are from GMO loaded cows and chickens, the seafood is from God knows where (we've all seen the reports about "farm raised" seafood from the far east...basically raised in sewage and then pumped with antibiotics to fight off disease). Nope, if one values one's life and health, one will not eat at any of these places...in my humble opinion.

We have an A&W and LJS in same building where we live. They seem to be doing ok. They even survived thru the Covid months of many restaurant closings - both temp & permanent. Maybe it is partially due to proper managing and treating employees fairly? I haven’t been there in a while as I live on the other side of town and am retired. I used to pass by on weekdays as a commuter. Next time we’re in that area, I’ll try. You know, a root beer float. Not sure bout the LJS part of it. I’ll give it some consideration though. Taco Bell has 2 locations, and one of which is near us. We’ve stopped there numerous times. The Cravings Box is our good deal. The frozen Mt Dew Blast in the summer or reg other times. Liked that Crunchy Gordita they had but then took it off their menu item which is strange and employees thought so too because it was considered one of the most frequented items bought there. I don’t know about upper management sometimes.

BK was #2 in fries right behind McDs years ago, but some moron thought it would be a great idea to change their fries and they have never recovered in that department in spite of making even more changes. I am a pishcatarian. 8 do not eat meat or chicken and certainly don't want my fries or fish cooked where they cook chicken. I've eaten this way almost all my life. Long John Silvers cooks their fish where the cook checken. It's lousy. I used to go to Cedericks Fish and Chips and there was no chicken sold there and it was great! There is no more around at least in North West Pennsylvania. Where is there a good fish and chips that doesn't also sell chicken? Please answer. Thanks.

About 6 or 7 years ago I got the worst burger in the world from Wendy's. Haven't been back since. The meat patty was so overcooked it must have been on the grill for at least three days, and the bacon was burnt to a cinder. Totally inedible.

Grew up in Minnesota in the 50s and 60s. We had an A&W in our small town. Those were clean and fresh, and I loved them. Now, In and Out has the cleanest and best burgers, followed by Carl's Junior, their Western Bacon Cheezburgers are also clean and tasty. Worst I've tried to eat was McDonald's new Big Mac in 1970. Ate one, then spent an hour leaning over a toilet to empty the foul thing from within.

i used to love taco bell basic taco, until one day the clerk said "have your money READY at the next window" well my food wasn't ready and I told them so. the next time I ordered there they did the same thing ,I told them "have my food ready at the next window" and of course my order was not ready to pass thru the window. When you get older like me you may think "Why do all these places even exist?" It's so much better to fix your own food. What do you think you're going to get? I live in southern California, but I actually come from Baltimore Maryland and there I actually met at Pimlico racetrack Col.Harland Sanders. When he was alive the chicken seemed to taste better and I think there was a little better quality. Even though I am a much older man now, my recollections of eating there then as a younger man seemed to have been a much better experience. I recently got a chicken pie there that had absolutely no chicken inside, no chicken!. I remember also that at one time you could order regular or crispy chicken. I usually got crispy, but not these days, the last time I checked you can only get spicy crispy and unless it's a woman I don't like anything spicy. I realize that there is a large number of hispanics here in southern California, and I am not one, but I am sure that even some of them don't necessarily like the food to be always hot and or spicy.

I can't remember all the details but she was looking for the MCDonalds to pay for her medical treatments from the burns she received form the coffee which use to be scalding hot.
