I was fortunate enough to join Ben, Shasta and the guys on this adventure. I had so much fun and the scenery was amazing. If you have a high clearance vehicle, this route is doable. Just take your time through tight spots and rocks. You won’t be disappointed. Pin stripping (AKA Badges of honor) are inevitable on this route, especially when you go through Mazourka Canyon and the Rocky Narrows. Remember “Leave No Trace”.

Great to see you guys out there. The California Gambler community apologizes for the actions of our guest. We are a very welcoming group and sometimes get some that just don't fit in. The concern was immediately handled after you passed our group. ABG

Don't worry about it. Like I said, everyone else that we met in the group was super cool and friendly.

I was part of the gambler500 group that day we saw you up there in the white mountains. I think I speak for the whole gambler community when I say I'm so sorry you had to deal with that lady. One of the biggest rules we have is Don't be a Dick, and after finding out about her behavior towards not only you guys, but also the forest ranger at the visitor center down the road, she was told to leave our group and banned from coming back. Besides that ordeal, fantastic video! I hadn't done much exploring in the Owen's valley up until then, and both the gambler trip and this video has definitely peaked my interest in getting back down there and doing more exploring in something more capable than a VW Golf.

We picked up pretty quickly that the rest of the Gambler 500 group was not happy with the female passenger in the kombi either. Everyone else we ran into along the way was cool, just remember you're sharing the trail with other folks, especially in a busy area like the White Mountains ;)

Nice video of your trek up there. I've not been up in the flats or to the lakes in a few years as after the big rains & snows of the past few years the BLM had shut down the road. The washouts and ruts from the side x sides had really rutted the road all to hell and the feds and volunteers had to get up there and do some repairs. I still show the flats turn - off as being closed on OnX app. Did you notice any "Closed" signage up there? And as I recall, I think it was the Eastern Sierra 4x4 club (could be mistaken about that ) had put a gate keeper up on that southern exit route and was telling folks not to make that descent in LWB vehicles, etc. You all found out that it was a bit tough as well.. Glad you all made it through. Enjoying your content. Thanks and safe travels.

You might want to try "The White Mountain Traverse" Sometime. You can vind that in Roger Mitchell's Inyo-Mono SUV Trails. I've got it on video on my channel. It ends up there at the top of Silver Peak and Canyon where you guys went back down. But it's more like the back way in from Deep Springs.

when was this filmed. Me and a bunch of friends are heading up to Coyote Flat in a few weeks. Glad I saw the trouble you all had with the southern trail out of Coyote Flat. I think we'll leave heading back up to Bishop. I don't think my stock 4x4 Frontier would make it.

Mid September! Honestly, I think it’s probably easier going up from independence than going down, and really shouldn’t be that big of an issue if you have a lifted midsize vehicle like a Rubicon or 4Runner. Definitely a bit of a challenge to squeeze in the full-size rigs around some of those obstacles, and watch out for that loose dirt on the edge of the trails!
@mmplumbing342 ай бұрын
What are the dates you were thinking about hitting Coyote Flats? I’m headed up soon too. I’ll try to avoid the days you’re up there. Give you some space 😂

@@OverlandTrailGuides Thank. Yeah, I've got a Frontier on stock suspension and 31" tires (just 1" taller than stock). So my ground clearance is pretty low. Seeing those rigs struggle (and other youtubers in videos a few years ago) really sealed the deal for this trip. While the truck is agile enough to get around the bend, it's the large rocks. I'm sure using smaller rocks and traction boards could get me through, but I'd rather not do any [more] damage to my truck. The trail back to bishop will be longer to head back to San Diego, but I gotta drive it home.

@@mmplumbing34 probably around 12/13/14 Oct. Look for a black Frontier with a black commercial ARE DCU camper shell along with a silver 4Runner, gray Tacoma, and maybe another silver 4Runner. We're a friendly bunch. Come say hello.
@OverlandTrailGuides2 ай бұрын
@@e.c.8668 it's a haul from SD for sure, but there's some really great tracks in the central and northern sierra on the western slope that you could do. You can definitely explore parts of the El Dorado BDT, the entire Tahoe BDT, and most of the Lost Sierra 4x4 trail. The western slope is a lot greener than the eastern sierra with dozens of rivers, lakes, streams and more!

Thanks for posting. This provides a beautiful perspective of both parts I've been to, and many parts where I've not been, but now have them on my 'bucket list'. P.S. Providing one stays on the road, are ATVs legal on the remote dirt sections? (clearly not legal on any paved, county, or well maintained road)
