Yayii, the ending of the first arc of Vinland saga was absolutely thrilling, emotional, shocking, well thought, and amazing all at the same time! It was soo good! definitely one of the best arc in manga. And just like Meruem in HxH, Askladd is one of the greatest antagonist in fiction imo. I am so looking forward for your spoiler video review.

Those diagrams can be really interesting, not only because they didn't really have a lot of things on which to store plans, nor tools and flat surfaces to work on, but conceptually to imagine how certain ideas occurred to them, like the center boards, or the way wood expands in the water, or even sails.

I’m surprised I really liked the book, yeah it was a little slower paced, maybe not as much magic as you would want but how everything builds up all the way to book two and things connect was pretty nice. I mean it makes sense more of a manga person then a book person

You had already convinced me to pick up Vinland Saga the manga, but now reminded me I need to find a copy of the original saga! 💗 And Beartown sounds interesting, but I don't know if I could handle such a sensitive topic, and I really didn't love A Man Called Ove personally. 😬 But thank you for reading us that quote, it was truly powerful to listen to. For having gone through quite a lot, I know how much we live in a cruel world, and I don't even have children yet but can't help thinking about the ones I'll hopefully have in a few years. It truly is terrifying. (Also, I watched your whole conversation with Philip and absolutely loved that interaction 😍)

I started reading Backman because of you and Beartown has become one of my favorite books of all time. I recommend it to everyone. You talk about crying during the book and I am not sure I did that but boy did I burst out sobbing at the end of the book. You are so right that the man has such a way with words and how he conveys emotion. I just love it so much. So, thank you so much for introducing me to this author.

I've known the Fruits Basket story for so long now that I don't think it ever occurred to me how wide the focus is for the first half of the series. I can see that the pacing is probably not the best for someone just coming into the series. It'll be interesting when I read it with fresh eyes. I hope your little one is feeling better!

Hi Merphy, loved ur discussion with ur friend Philip, I have recently picked up Malazan after ur reviews and I m really looking forward to catch up with both of ur videos, and btw I also have some manga recommendations which might suit ur taste, 1) NANA a story rich with characters who feel so layered and charming but who r also humanly flawed with their own ambitions and reasons for their actions. It is possibly one of the best stories not only in shoujo but also in all of manga. Netflix may be adding Nana to it’s anime catalog. 2) xxxHolic a student troubled by spirits stumbles upon a mysterious shop that grants wishes to people in exchange for a price that is equal in value, he offers to work part time in exchange for his wish.

Can't wait for your Vinland Saga review!! It's my favourite manga ever and trust me, prologue truly is amazing, but in my opinion the next arc and even the ones after that are even better because, while Askeladd really does his thing and is a very interesting character to watch, without him story and message that it's trying to convey trough our main character Thorfinn really come through. Askeladd might have been an amazing antihero / villain but in my opinion Thorfinn goes on the journey to surpass him in how good and original he is as a protagonist. And obviously there are a lot more very well written characters on the journey ahead.

Merphy i'd like to recommend a manga called Pandora hearts . It's a dark fantasy, confusing in the beginning but gets really better later. Great and loveable cast, amazing antagonists, one of the best plot twists ever and an amazing ending. Do ask your patreons about it. Also so happy that you're gonna be starting the next vinland arc. Without spoiling, it's an arc i can read a hundred times without getting bored.

At last!!! Hitchhikers book 4!! I'm sorry you were let down by the plot and the setting. I vehemently disagree with you, however, about the romance just as I have with the way other fans nitpick about it. I honestly believe that how Arthur and Fenchurch developed together was a fascinating and at times necessary road for Douglas Adams to take us down, even if it departs from the usual tone of the series. It deepens the emotions, which is aided by the slower pace that wouldn't have worked for books 1 - 3. Adams still manages to be funny, just not in the breakneck doses of his cynical period of the late 70s / early 80s when the other books were written. Book 5 is the one that REALLY disappointed me. For context: book 5 was written at the lowest point of the author's life, driving him to cynicism that was a little too extreme. To say book 4 would've been a better conclusion is an understatement. (Especially now that you've witnessed the sendoff of one particular character that you gushed about in previous vlogs. Won't spoil it here for anyone.)

I fear Cradle always stays ultra fast paced, I like it quite a bit but would likely like it much more with more downtime so that the characters can spend more times just interacting. Because I like the characters and want more of them outside action.
