It really hammers in how badly Twitch messed up in the fact that Kick is basing their whole business strategy around taking advantage of Twitch's mistake.
@UsernameUsername0000 Жыл бұрын
It makes me curious though. If Twitch made these mistakes as a last-ditch effort to reduce losses, how sustainable/scalable is Kick’s current strategy? Twitch is backed by Amazon, which, I assume, would allow them to store and distribute content at a discounted price via AWS. It’ll be curious seeing whether Kick will eventually become like Twitch if they deem the losses from their pro-consumer policies as too debilitating.

So Kick straight up paid him a ton of money, didn't force him to only stream on their platform, and has a better split on subs? Seems like they're trying to show off how they wanna treat their creators. And if this is how they are then it's a great look for them.

If it were merely down to profitability, I have no doubt that Amazon would keep sinking money into Twitch just as a way of quashing any potential competition. But lack of growth? That's what sends the corporate goblins into absolute panic mode.

@@toneysebits8458Creators are nothing without the infrastructure that the platform provided. I'm pretty sure Kick running their infrastructure at a loss. Building a *free* streaming service is super expensive, that's the only reason why we don't have a lot of big players in this space, only the one who has the technical capabilities that can pull this off. KZbin has Google which owned Google Cloud Platform, and Twitch has Amazon which owned AWS. Mixer technically should still survive if they do it right, since it was owned by Microsoft which also owned Azure (Microsoft's cloud business.) I'm not sure who's behind Kick's infrastructure. But I'm sure if they use 3rd party cloud solution, it's gonna be super expensive for them to maintain.

Kick's goal is 100% to not make money off streaming. Their goal is to provide a platform for people to stumble upon gambling streams. The more users on the platform, the more likely you have people find out about stake.

Yea the entire thing is funded by gambling sites and crypto bros. I don’t know how long it’s gonna stay around but it’s not the ‘awesome company’ people claim it is. Just makes me more worried.

yeah smells a lot like athletes being sponsored by gambling websites or shit like even Magnus Carlsen in chess has gambling sponsors. It's like the new cigarette brand sponsor honestly. Wouldn't surprise me if advertising for gambling will be heavily restricted in many countries in the next few years
