j dekk because diesels are fired off compression. And In the colder weather it won’t build enough heat in the cylinders to ignite the diesel fuel. The glow plug controller makes the glow plugs heat up causing the cylinders to heat up and getting them warm enough to ignite diesel while cranking the engine over

Protective Control Box - "Smart Box "- under dash below keyswitch - what you want is a KDS white label S3 these are the current models and arguably the best. You can easily change it yourself. Four bolts and two AMP connectors. Make sure you disconnect the batteries before working on it, those boxes are super touchy. Most likely your glow plugs are shot too, test them first to verify they didn't fry. If you need parts or directions drop me a line. Of course its bad ground!

Just fyi Dr. Matt. The chickens are loosing their feathers because the other chickens or rooster is pecking at them. What I did with mine was spray blue coat on the bare spots, it keeps the others from pecking at them and it will help them heal and be able to grow their feathers back. Also love the chicken coop,. The only change I would make is to put the second roost bar above the other one, just off set so it sets back from the other one. Like stairs. And thank you for all of your videos and messages. You are a great person making a difference in the world.

I'd throw a go pro or a game cam in the coop to see what the chickens do at night. See if there is any behavior you can fix or if they roost a certain way.... just a thought.

Working for US military in Germany, I would say it would be 99% glow plug controller or less likely PCB (protective control box) basically a ECU. but military wise I think they come as a set. I don’t know on how you would acquire them but you can get them individually too.

If it's was the glow plug controller the wait light usually will blink on then off really quickly it. i thimk its the relay bilt in the ignition switch. It may not be sending powr to the glow plug controller. I might be wrong though I've been out for 7 years. Best thing to do is look in the -10 or -20 to troubleshot it.

I’m one of the ex military guys who watch Matt n his wonderful family to pass my time especially when the PTSD gets bad, so Matt you are already changing things, that you may not even know about. I dream I could have a life n family such as yours, not jealous, I’m really happy for u n it makes me smile. Different reasons, but i hear u about being happy to see a good, emotionally stable, family. Something that helped me out was a channel called "richard grannons fortress mental health" in that channel he recommends a type of mental excersize that i personally tweeked to saying positive affirmations, instead of what he suggests. Same results. If your feeling down, i hope you check out the channel, an try to at least watch the first 5 or 6 vids he put up. Hope you are well!

3 things 1. The hummer needs a new ignition switch or the ecm is bad. 2. Build an automatic feeder for the chicken coop. Use 2 or 3 inch pvc. Make a J out of 2 90 degree elbows and straight pipe. 3. ECU just need testing via a multimeter or Diagnostics, probably nothing. But it is very possible it needs a new Switch. The starter is still very strong, you can hear it.

Steven Nihipali It don't, the only reason it won't fire because the ECU isn't fully respondent to the timing system. Having a switch that works time them without a delay. The glow plugs shouldn't cause a massive issue like this because it would still start, just not as quickly.

About the chicken coop. The chickens would be happier with 1-1/2'' doweling instead of 2x4's. (like what's in your closets that you hang your clothes on). I've been around chickens a long time and they like to grip what they are roosting on. They are no different than birds on a branch. Love your videos, congrats on your gold button. Hey Matt. Big fan. I own an old 1985 F250 with a diesel engine. I have the same glow plugs issue. Especially being from Canada. But I fixed this issue. What I did was took the power that's sent to the glowplugs and sent it to a switch in the cab. So when you go to start. Simply hit the switch and the glow plugs will heat up and then once running just turn off the switch. Works perfectly. Hope this helps.

6.2L GM Diesels are very similar to humvee's but Humvee glowplugs are 24V. GM Glow plugs are 12v. You can not mix them. The symptoms you describe sound like a bad glow plug timer. A test light could diagnose the issue. The glow plug timers/relay have been known to be a failure point. As far as the glow plug system a good way to truble shoot it is that when you turn the start switch to run and you have no wait light the PCB box is bad, when it flashs the controler is bad, when the light comes on like it should and there is no draw on the voltmeter the glow plugs are bad, and when the wait light comes on for a second and gos off it also means the glow plugs are bad. The glow plug system cannot be bypassed cause the relay is inclosed in the PCB box. (without modifying the wireing) The redneck but won't ever break down again method is to run hot wires to a high amp push button switch and then just hold the button down for 4 seconds and hit the key. This allows you to skip it in the summer when the engine is warm and allows you to hold it longer in the winter in sub zero conditions.

Matt, Use your voltmeter, set to volts DC and connect the positive lead to one of the glow plugs and the negative lead to ground or the negative side of the battery. Have one of the kids turn the key, if you measure 24VDC, your switch, fuses and relays are working and the issue is most likely your glow plugs. If you do not measure 24VDC, you either have a blown fuse, defective ignition switch or the interposing relay is defective.

There is a UK TV show called Wheeler Dealers, they bought a US military Humvee and its had the same problem. Apparently there is a box under the steering wheel that provides power to the glow plugs. It is supposed to be very problematic and goes often. Had the same problem as you, might be worth looking at that box. (Wheeler Dealers S13E15 1992 HumVee)

For the Humvee, check the glow plug relay. You will need two people. Get a standard test light and have someone turn the key on while you check the posts (should be 3). when turned on relay is getting power and if the relay is getting power you can test the other connection to see if the relay is sending power to the glow plugs. If you are not getting power to the relay its the ignition switch if you are its the relay.

glow plugs don't stop the vehicle from starting, those are know for dropping the mechanic, and electrical fuel pumps. I've never waited for the light to turn off, must troops just turn the key anyway even in low low temps. and if it was you could put a heating element under the truck and put a tarp or cover over the front end for 20mins and start it thats what I've done in afghan. everything is mechanical so its not electrical if the starter turns, check fuel pressure if you can and most f the time fuel pumps, worse case injector pump which is your high pressure fuel.

Watched a lot of demolition ranch and off the ranch in the past few days. A family member of mine suggested it some time back and I never got around to checking you out. Lots of great videos. Only issue is your back catalog: referring to 'tomorrow on demo ranch' etc and having to hunt for that video since the videos will only say 11 months ago or 8months ago... I guess I am OCD that way. Matt, if you wanna have happy chicks, you need space for them. But yes they have a Picking Order and as long the chick isnt bleeding dont worry my friend. And now some more information i will give everyone, some sizes for chicken coop. All of them are the absolut minimum. Oh and sry for the strange numbers, i have to convert meters. Oh and before i forget. Paint the coop with lime, because of the mites. Matt there is a way to make the good ole Humvee reliable but in order to do so I have to let you know a little history about the 6,2 & 6.5 engines ((they are hmm how can I say this but yeah they are Junk)) how ever I have seen quite a few modified Humvees with a much more reliable engine platform 6.6L Duramax Its a costly upgrade but well worth it not only on the long run but also for ones mental health :) and this is coming from a Ford Powerstroke guy hope this helps I went through a lot of heartache and headaches using those two engines on some of my tow trucks back in the day. anyways love your Vids blessings sent out to you and your whole fam we love you guys and gals

The key hole is on The driver side. Sometimes they are hidden under the plastic cap. I worked at a Honda car lot lol. She probably needs to replace the battery in her key fob though. But there is a key in it.

Matt, you got the VetRanch and that's already awesome, it changes the world actually, althoug it does in a way smaller scale, it does changes the world. And Off The Ranch, that also make people laugh and stuff, but some times shows some hard times that came naturally with the times and you going straight trough it and surpassing it. I grew up with chickens put a red light in the coop and it should stop the pecking before your chickens start eating each other (yes it really happens). Smaller perches should be used (my mom used to just stick branches through the chicken wire for perches) they are easier for chickens to grip. Other then that your coup is looking pretty good. I also really can't beleive a veterinarian is thinking he doesn't impact the world in a positive way. You help so many animals who help so many people. And just your videos help people all over the world. I also understand this isn't enough for you, you must always do more. so go for it but don't ever feel like the world hasn't changed for the better because of you because it absolutely has.
