The "we drop the cards we want to the series we want" is the worst that could've happened to this game. Add to that all the monetary policies they are adding to the game with absurd bundles. I'm not buying the battle pass anymore, and if they become very stupid they can already say goodbye to one of their players. I find it funny how they showed the game as max F2P. The original Welcome bundle was 700 gold, a rare variant (valued at 700 gold) and an avatar (valued at 350 gold) for $3, roughly 8.33x value (using the most common $10/700g as a conversion rate). Using the same evaluation for this bundle gives a whopping 0.88x value. That’s completely unacceptable. To make this bundle 3x value they’d need to add 1430 tokens to it.

I am level 3500, started on January'23. I've bought only every battle pass + the welcome bundle, that makes around 60 euro in total. For around 2 months (february and march) I just had one or two "decent" decks to get to infinite, it was hard and sometimes frustrating. Right now I've every series 3 (missing seven cards) and series 4 (missing 3 cards) I wanted for the meta decks. Missing six series 5 (not counting spiderham and spiderman 2099 cause they're still not released), of which I only really miss Jeff the baby land shark. My point is that battle pass and maybe welcome bundle are the only worth your money if you're really going to invest hours in this game. And even buying the battle pass keep in mind it will take around 3 or 4 months to build the meta decks. I agree that with bundles like this darkhawk "3x value" nonsense they are going predatory on people who recently started with the game and have no other chance to get this card.

Same story here basically other than I never bought the welcome bundle and only just recently bought another bundle because of the personal value it brought to my own collection/experience but after buying it I felt like I will never spend any more money on this again I am glad I have control over buying this type of nonsense now that I am older but I feel sad for those spending $50 on this '3x value literal skin change and 1000 credits' when right now Spiderman or Cyberpunk 2077 are on sale on steam for the same amount for a AAA title full experience with countless hours of enjoyment versus a card skin... I am not giving Second Dinner any money. Battle Passes or anything. I agree with everything you've said in the video. The game is literally full of Predatory MACRO-transactions, like you said. As much as I'm a big Marvel fan and have been playing this game since launch... I must say, I can't wait for DC Duel Force. Even if their closed beta didn't go as planned, at least that is what beta is for! Finding problems and fixing them so its ready for launch. I've recently gotten back into Hearthstone. Disenchanted some old wild cards, build some really fun decks... I've been having fun. Marvel Snap is fun sometimes, it has its moments.. but it can also be frustrating to play given the RNG. In Hearthstone I only have to worry about the RNG of Card Draw.. Snap, everything is so dependent on randomness. From certain card effects to locations.. It really removes skill from a lot of it. At least I know that DC Dual Force is going to release with more content and more cards than Marvel Snap released with. Its even got a PvE mode where you battle it out during comic book scenes. I'm sure they also have microtransactions, but based on the prices I have seen... its a fraction of Marvel Snaps prices and none of it is required or makes you feel like you absolutely need to buy it. They will have their own crafting system too, something I've wanted for Marvel Snap for months now. But they'll never do it because it would jeopardize their profits from the shop and selling tokens.

I remember how shortly after launch I posted a thread on reddit saying how bad card acquisition system is, not even 'just' expensive, but extremely bad. But I also tackled on the prices, how absolutely ridiculous they are. I got such hate I had to remove it, I was being idiot, moron, hater, I want everything, the point of this game is slow unlocking cards, the fun is in collecting, we don't want to have cards, we want to collect them slowly, you don't need to buy anything if it's so expensive for you... so overall this is how it feels to be right... satisfying, but also sad.

Been watching since the Gwent days so if you move to a new game then I'll definitely try it too. It's just such a shame that Snap's business side is so predatory and evil. The gameplay itself is just so perfect for mobile gaming which is the main way I play it. It really does feel like an abusive relationship. I've seen a lot of people who are indifferent to SD's decisions saying that it doesn't affect them. They've played since the start so have most of the cards for the meta decks so who cares about flexible drops or this obvious money grab of a bundle? But Regis makes a great point that this hurts the game's reputation as well as the playerbase. Less players means worse game. This affects all of us. I've been patiently waiting for SD to fix things and to improve card acquisition but it seems pretty clear now that it's just not going that way. Imma just stick to TFT until a better card game comes out then

Everything about this game and how it’s monetised feels like the game itself does not respect my time. I have very little agency over what I can actually do, I’m missing many key cards because I can rarely choose, and when I do, even that system feels like a drag to access. I have to wait even once the season starts, oftentimes when I have a card in mind even for the free series 3, I have to wait for half a month to get it.

Corporations are amoral machines that are designed to maximize profit. Developers may enjoy making the game, they may love the work they do, but to the executives its nothing more than a product. The moment they begin to see dips, and a quarter that at the previous time made more money that is when they will either make a change to generate more players and more money or they will shut it down and make another. Thankfully this game wasn't published by one of the big corporations, or you would hate it even more. The problem is that we have created these systems, incentivized this kind of "Greed is good" attitude, and allowed them to operate unfettered by Government control. Second Dinner is no more evil than a computer, or an engine. Yes, there are people who work hard to make this content, and its not their fault this kind of thing has become commonplace, they just want to make a good game people will enjoy. Then once the game works, the executives sit in a room and figure out how much money can they steal from people without an uproar, how much can we take before the government says "no." How much is too much? They create this number, and then say, "We should make as much as humanly possible and not exceed this number, as to not involve regulations and such. In the United States that number is infinity it seems, loot boxes and anything you can imagine are perfectly legal here. I do know that some European countries are taking action against this predatory behavior. What we need is governments to step in and tell them there is a hard limit to the kind of profit you should be allowed to make, otherwise nothing will ever change.

They keep the cards up high and drop the bad ones/nerf good ones before dropping them. It's for money. They don't want everyone to have the good cards, so they use the good cards as a lure to bait people into buying those cards (either through bundles like this or by buying credits/bundles with tokens). The problem is that they want to make these things scarce because they think it will keep their playerbase high for longer. If you have to play for weeks to earn tokens just to get one card that you want, then that's weeks of you being on their game and playing with others who are trying to achieve the same thing. Instead of just having a good game that makes people want to play it, you end up with this weird playerbase of people who feel like they are held hostage because they've sunk so much time into this garbage fire. Also just on a personal note, Ben Brode seems like he'd be a huge prick in private.

On the topic of battlepass prices being too high compared to full games, I'll just say one thing: considering regional prices, I bought 4 great indies (Hades, Death's Door, Risk of Rain 2 and Griftlands) for less than a price of Nebula and few variants. I already spent 15 usd on this game, which is equivalent to more than 45 usd in local currency, I basically already bought a pricy indie game at full cost, so I'll never pay more.

Im getting frustrated of this game, it's just impossible complete any deck if you didn't pay a lot, and sorry but I don't want to pay ridiculous amounts and also risk not finding the cards I need to complete the decks. Tokens are so rare, the series 3 card at 1000 tokens it's just a scam.. why i have to pay 1000 tokens for a random card?? Jesus just let us choice which one.. This game is beatiful gameplay talking, but the possibility to collect card you need is so low. I just started to play few months ago, and im 1900 collection level buying i think 3/4 bundles,2 battlepass some golds for credit and tokens, and i wasn't able to complete any meta deck. I have no cards to complete bounce like bast, falcon, mysterio and hit monkey. I can't complete any deck with sera because i don't have sera. I can't complete any good cards deck. I can't complete any Galactus deck. And so on. The few times I've bought something I've regretted doing it because the rewards are so disappointing. Im one of the player im going to close for a long time this game, if they just don't let us to collect cards. Who wants to spend real money , there are cosmetics like in every other free to play game. This game is just not free to play.

I've stopped playing for 2 weeks mainly because I have nothing to do Conquest solved my problems I never really buy any new cards because I taught myself to not care about them I love the cards and decks I have and I'm never pressured to spend money on bundles because of how bad they generally are and the reasons you described. That being said as a move deck lover I wasn't going to buy anymore battle passes but I couldn't pass up ghost spider But yeah before token Tuesdays I would never buy anything with gold and was able to grab all the token bundles with gold just from buying passes But as with everyone else the patch 2 months ago was horrible They could have done the things they did but still dropped hawk and knull as we expected They even could have walked it back but refused to, If I was ever going to buy bundles that is the absolute deal breaker for me and others. Snap is a good game with greedy ownership. I refuse to spend any more money on it as well… I have bought the last 3 season passes and bought the last one just to get a new card… after deck level 4k card acquisition is almost impossible and it takes almost 2-4 weeks to save enough tokens to buy anything in the shop… the goal of getting a new card becomes tedious and frustrating for a card collecting game… also considering deleting the game…

One thing that is always left out of these conversations is that Marvel Snap doesn't have ads. That's a huge revenue stream they must make up for. I agree that they are milking the player-base a bit too much, but it seems like they are trying to find the balance. In the Dark Hawk package example, the worst thing is the "3x Value" which is straight up false advertisement. Other than that, I have no problem with the price. I'm not buying it because that's a crazy price, but if they want to price things for the whales, go ahead. If everything was priced for the whales, that would be an issue. However, they have lower cost deals as well that give good bang for your buck. Also, I have only paid for a few monthly passes. I have collected all the way through pool 3, I have most pool 4 cards, and a few pool 5. I feel like my collection is very competitive and I haven't even been playing for that long. Either I am super lucky or people just need to lower expectations for a card collection game. Let me close by reiterating that there are no ads. Go and play a game with ads and remember how annoying that is. Perhaps it will change your perspective on Snap.

You're not betraying your principles for being forced to engage with these predatory practices in order to earn your living, although I know how bad it can feel (that's why companies love good little shills who use the totally disingenuous "Oh, you hate capitalism but I see you out there buying food and paying for shelter" arguyments). It's enough that you are using your platform to highlight this issue and not staying silent. The biggest ally for companies is the apathy of the average consumer. People get bored and tired easily, which is why it's doubly important for people with a platform to keep repeating the message.

I have had a few friends ask about snap and I straight up look at them and say " good game but I got lucky on my drops , don't play it " It feels so weird to do that for a game with solid gameplay like this. This is why I push people towards runeterra , good game great monetization.

@@JohnDoeMS does it I play 3 hours a day and still don't have all the series 3 cards. I started a fresh runeterra account and had the whole collection free to play in 2 months with 20k essence to spare playing the same amount. Mtg arena has faster deck acquisition than this game and there are only 12 cards per deck. Gwent also had faster card acquisition too.

The fact people at collection level 3k still don't have have some series 3 staples is fucking bad design for your economy. All I have been getting is tokens , it took me 2 weeks before I even saw a pixel variant in one of my caches. Enjoy your cool-aid.

Let's be honest: apart of gameplay, marvel license and the art of the cards what is good in this game? ladder is painful especially when u got stuck or start losing so many ranks, rewards are not that great, balancing is questionable bc they chop very fast some decks and refuse to take action in others, economy and card acquisition is a mess...

Capitalism produces one of the best card games of all time and we complain. There are pros and cons to making a free game. This is one of the inevitable cons. Swallow the pill and move on from this bundle. With that said, is the “3x Deal” hilariously misleading and awful? Of course. All the more reason to protest with your wallet and push them to make fair prices for their bundles. (Which is one of the pros of the same system this video argues against.)

Imo their monetisation is fine - I am f2p have plenty of cards and get to infinite every season, funnily enough I don't have Darkhawk but there's no need for me to buy this bundle at all, he literally costs 3000 tokens which = 1/2 a month of f2p earnings, i have 12k saved currently There's literally no need to spend money, so if some whales want to waste £30 what's the problem?
