The Fantastic Four, four junior high school girls from the Lower Eastside of Manhattan, won the World Wide Double Dutch Championship in 1979. We talked to them almost 40 years later about the sport and their legacy.

Thank you ladies...My childhood was so great with double dutch in my life. Those days we actually went outside and played had a good time with our friends there was no fighting no hatred among the neighbors. You can go outside and play without getting shot I need to sleep with your doors unlocked. Everyone looked out for each other. This actually made me feel so sad because children these days will never know the joy of going outside and playing having a great time with your friends. They may have the technology but we had other things and thats priceless.

I used to play Double Dutch everyday. My best girlfriend and I were the best in my neighborhood and nobody wanted to play against us, because they never got a chance to jump! I miss those days, we had fun jumping rope and playing Jacks. We were some in shape young ladies. It's sad to see so many out of shape kids, it's because they spend so much time on the internet and not enough time playing and getting physical exercise. I barely see kids riding their bikes anymore. This was a great story, I hope we can bring Double Dutch back it was a great sport, for young children.

Ya cause this is a perfect example of how bad our society has fell into absolutely nothing! We used to have heart put meaning into everything we did and then the computer came along and made everybody weak! Nobody wants to put the hard work in to become anything in life everybody just wants the attention and everything to be free instead of working towards a goal and keeping the traditions alive!

Me, after actually watching the video: "you guys. This competition was invented by the NYPD to stop black girls from taking drugs and hooking on the street. It did turn into something amazingly more than that, but it doesn't help romanticising the past."
