if i didn't play ice hockey i'd be tooling around in a ND2 miata. however, I do play hockey so I've been happy with the 86 :) it's really hard to justify owning both cars, they fulfill such similar roles, so i 100% understand where you're coming from. and yeah, the 86 is a bit more practical with the ability to fold down the seats and get decent amount of cargo space.

Tough decision man. I dunno, these are the last of a dying breed. Might be worth putting it on a non-op and storing it. The values will probably climb eventually. Could be nice first car for one of your future teenagers as well.

Keeping the 86 is a good decision IMO, overall it's a more versatile and capable car, and easier to mod I think. Maybe a 6-8 year old Lexus IS would be a great replacement daily driver, very similar suspension setup to the Miata actually...

That Lexus might have a double wishbone suspension but at 1000 pounds heavier & being an automatic hardtop its no where near as fun to drive. He will miss his MX-5 soft top after selling it ! There is no other roadster on the street that has the Great Reliability / cheap to Insure & maintain ! The fun factor goes way up with the top down. The GR86 can't do that. The MX-5 is more driver focused than a GR86 which weighs 550 pounds more ! There will be no substitute plain & simple. You will miss the MX-5 roadster !
