But only 3 million of them were killed in combat, whereas 3 million German soldiers were murdered as POWs. 9,4 millions German civilians were killed during WW2 (mostly women and children). 5,7 million of them were killed by starvation and total lack of medical care 1944 - 1949 during Allied occupation. 2,8 million of them (also only women and children and very old men) were murdered by Russians, Polish and Czechs during the expulsion of German civilians from the eastern parts of Germany to steal their land and cities. 0.6 million women and children were burned alive by terror air raids on German cities full of civilians 0.3 million women and girls and old people were killed by raping and butchering during the conquest and occupation of German cities. Additionally 0.5 million ethnic Germans living outside of Germany were murdered at the end and directly after the war. I just read the Persian translation of your comment. Although I was not born in Germany (I was born in Iran), and had to live in America since 1979 (I came to America as a religious refugee when I was almost 16), I have always loved Germany, by far, more than any other country in he world. I have lost the number of times that I've seen this video. It's so moving! I am seriously thinking about emigrating to, and/or retiring in, Germany one day. Any piece of advice is most sincerely welcome. P.S. Ever since I lost my country (Iran) to that revolution in 1979, emotionally and mentally, I adapted Germany as my new country (you probably know that Reza Shah the great, the penultimate emperor of Iran, greatly loved and admired Germany), although it wasn't until 2010 when I got a chance to visit it. Since then it had been my greatest wish to see the German unification. At the age of 61, when I look back at my life in retrospect, I realize that the happiest moments of my life were those when I was watching the crumbling of the Berlin wall, and the subsequent withdrawal of the Soviet troops from what was then East Germany. A very beautiful country, Germany. I had the honour of visiting sometime in February 2019 and I have never felt that content in any environment before. I was there for only two days and it already felt like home. Germany is probably the most sophisticated and organised country in the entire world. I was fortunate enough to be based in Germany for a total of 7 years in the British Army Of The Rhine, between 1969-1980 at a variety of lovely places in Nordrheine Westphallen. Also I've holidayed in Germany several times since. I loved the time I spent there especially the 2 years I had an apartment directly across the railway lines from the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. I consider myself very lucky indeed. Thank you for going to the effort to produce this film - this old man relived some happy moments watching it. Ich bin dankbar.

I like its architecture, culture, language, nature, some foods, various traditional clothes:) I've been there but I hope to explore it more soon:) I'm from Poland and even though we had painful and complicated history in recent ages, there were better times as well. Germans contributed to the development of many Polish cities. Some of them were German for centuries and there is German heritage here too (and it's taken care of). Germany is an amazing country with a lot of cultural and scientific contributions:) I hope for peace and good relations for our countries. Greetings from Poland:)

Thats quite a challenge...even most Germans don't speak their language properly. But the good news....most of us speak english...and as a guy who worked in a hotel....I can only say that I prefer that to broken German...that leaves you guessing what the other guy is talking about. Btw....some material that might help you are the brilliant german comedian Loriot...first of all...knowing some of his stuff will gain you friends pretty quickly...and secondly..he speaks very good and elegant german and has a good pronunciation.

Da hast du vollkommen recht. Was damals in Europa an deutscher Kultur kaputt gemacht wurde und Leute vertrieben wurden, die Jahrhunderte lang in der Tschechoslowakei, Polen, Russland gesiedelt und die Länder mit geprägt haben, ist so ein Drama. 12 Jahre. Das tausendjährige Reich hat 1000 Jahre deutscher Kultur zerstört. Die erste deutsche Universität war übrigens in Prag.

Ich habe das Video jetzt zum ersten Mal als Reaction Video gesehen; allerdings gleich bei 3 Amerikanern und dachte, ich sollte auch beim Ersteller einen 👍 da lassen. Unglaublich, wie schön unser Land doch ist und so traurig, dass viele es nicht zu schätzen wissen. Dir jedenfalls vielen Dank für das Video. Toll.

Ach des is lieb und ich finde es echt toll, dass so viele drauf reagieren. Ich habe mir damals gar nicht so viel dabei gedacht, aber die Reaktionen haben mir gezeigt, dass vielen gar nicht klar war wie schön Deutschland ist.

Wieviele Arbeitsstunden in all den Städten und Burgen stecken. Man hätte ja auch einfach Häuser bauen können. Nein, es wurden Kunstwerke erschaffen. Schönes Video. Dankeschön.

Heute leider nicht mehr, man setzt fast nur noch auf identitätslose modernistische Blöcke.

Nun ja - es ist zu vermuten, dass die Steine nicht nur der puren Freude wegen den Berg hochgeschafft wurde. Es ging immer auch um Macht, Gewalt und Unterdrückung, klar auch um Schönheit - wenn man es sich leisten konnte. Schön dass diese Bauwerke noch stehen.

@@minimax9452 Das es um Macht geht ist schon klar. Ich meine aber auch in den Städten. Die Verzierungen an Fachwerken. Kleine Spielereien an den Dächern usw. Das ist so eine Eigenart von Europäern sich in der eigenen Arbeit zu verlieren. Nicht jeder. Aber wenn das der Fall ist kommen da meist erstaunliche Dinge heraus.

@@dr.ludwig Das stimmt so nicht. Die Elb-Philharmonie ist ein Gegenbeispiel. Der Stil variiert von Epoche zu Epoche, aber die Kultur wird gepflegt. Zudem legen wir hier großen Wert auf Restaurierung und Denkmalschutz. Schau dir mal Athen an ... wie verkommen das dort aussieht. Das sind Ruinen dort im Vergleich zu unseren in Stand gehaltenen Prachtbauten. Augen auf machen! Deutschland ist großartig.
