This show manages to do a legacy sequel so well by keeping the feel/nostalgia of the older movies and honoring them well with a nice balance, but also making it feel modern and recent as opposed to a bunch of shows and movies these days that try to do reboots or sequels that are just only to make more money or for a cash-grab.

To the father you made a reference after watching it that the tournament was in Dec & that johnny still had to finish off his senior year. Make a note of you saying this because when you get to season 3 episode 9 there is a bad mistake made with the scriptwriting . Johnny Lawrence isn't a bad guy. He's a complex character, and I've grown to like him at times. I knew I hated him in the first Karate Kid film, but William Zabka is just doing his job right as an actor. The more you learn about Johnny and understand what his life has been like, the more you start feeling sorry for him.

If you want to watch them in reference with the seasons: Karate Kid Cobra Kai Season 1 Karate Kid II (or after Cobra Kai Season 2) Cobra Kai Season 2 Karate Kid III (or after Cobra Kai Season 3) Cobra Kai Season 3 Cobra Kai Season 4 Cobra Kai Season 5 If you watch Karate Kid II prior to Season 2 and Karate Kid prior to Season 3, that might be better, but I definitely recommend you watch those movies before those particular seasons of Cobra Kai if you want to enjoy Cobra Kai even more than you already will on it's own.
