What's bad is the focus, the playlists, what 'is' Halo, and what isn't. Everything showcased is Halo 4, or a "non competitive" Halo. Halo should be defined by Halo 1 - Halo 3, in 2001 - 2010, not Halo 4. The Community wanted Halo 4. The millions of other players wanted Halo. This isn't Halo. Husky Raid is not Halo. It's Halo 4, the CoD clone. Halo is not a game filled with social playlists. Halo 2 had 4. Halo 3 had 6. Both of these had over 10 ranked playlists, focusing on skill to win, focusing on the importance of leveling up. Focused on teamwork or solo play to be better. Focused on knowing how and when to use weapons, knowing where on maps to be, knowing control, knowing call outs, and knowing the game. That is Halo. This is Halo 4 put into the Halo Infinite engine. A game engine the "halo community" only hates because it's too close to the classic Halo's feel.

You can't win with the people that think Halo was "never competitive", goal post shift for what defines Halo, then as they get everything they want, either claim "too late" or say "what about ____". Truth be told, 343 shouldn't have listened to these people. We need what we use to have in 2004 and 2007, not what the Halo Community has had since 2012. We don't need "more" social, we need ranked and focus around skill progression (rank) and matching based on that (like the 1-50).

Those two things don't conflict though. The time for marketing was last year with Seasons 3-5, when the playerbase was slowly growing and content was being added regularly. Not now, when the playerbase is in the toilet and content production has mostly ceased, with only a small number cosmetics being added. 343 should've marketed this game when it was starting to recover but left it too late. They also made a mistake in releasing this before the Xbox Games Showcase instead of at it.

Okay, bit of an exaggeration. Just taking a glance at the Halo wiki it looks like there are 27 multiplayer dev-made maps (a few of them were made in Forge but they're still dev maps) and that's excluding the forge canvases, house of reckoning for firefight, etc. That sounds like a decent amount of maps for any game, and then there are all the community maps on top. There are more community-made Forge maps for sure, but lets not pretend they just put 5 maps out and called it a day.

They make it clear whenever maps are added to matchmaking if they are dev-made or community-made. It's not like the maps are just plucked out of Forge and dropped into matchmaking without a care either. They said it takes something like 6 months (it might be longer, not sure) of playtesting, refining, optimizing (keep in mind it has to run well on all Xbox models) etc. between 343 and the Forgers to get a community map into matchmaking, so it's not like no effort is spent on 343's part. I'm just happy the game has plenty of good maps to play on.
