@HoopsVstheWRLD beautiful video. as a hockey guy 1st, basketball (a distant) 2nd, this was an excellent informational video that clearly explained in quantifiable terms, the long odds of making it to the nba. i do think also that money is becoming a bigger factor than it used to be. meaning the cost of investment - going to camps, academies, travel, etc, if a talented kid from the hood wants to go somewhere with his talent.
@HOOPSVSTHEWRLD3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the words! I'm glad I was able to help capture the information. I hope the playing field didn't involve economics but it sadly does. Mostly low income families are spending a lot of money on relocating their children to play for better coaches and schools.
@carparthero3 ай бұрын
@@HOOPSVSTHEWRLD thanks likewise for the hard work you put into the video and for your response. i used to be really into basketball from the late 1980's (1987 when i was 13 years old) up till when kobe retired (2016). i have been really turned off with the NBA because of load management, players not giving effort and not performing to their contracts, and the lack of desire to win, more concerned with getting paid. i am slowly getting back into basketball because of cooper flagg. i am really excited to see what he does with duke. my concern with college basketball is with NIL and the transfer portal. college sports have always in ways been a business, and i'm not against the kids earning money. the ncaa is far from being a saintly organization. i think it would have been better if the kids had most of the earnings put into escrow and they get it at the end of their college career, so that the focus is on working hard to earn and keep a spot on the team. NIL and the TP was a major reason why nick saban left college football, and i don't blame him. anyhow basketball from when i was in high school back from '88-93 has changed a lot. here in hamilton, ontario, in the catholic schools, we have cathedral which is located in the downtown inner core of the city. back in the 80's and 90's up till early 2000's they won a shit-load of senior boys basketball championships and went to OFSAA (provincial championship) on multiple occasions and medalled. now, the talent has spread out and there's more schools from the suburbs that are winning city titles. kids back then, only the really talented kids got "invited" to supercamps. most kids that were mid to low talent would work out on their own or just play at the park or YMCA. my point here is that i am seeing basketball slowly becoming like hockey, and that's not a good thing. hockey has always had a barrier to entry. it's def a rich people's game today. basketball still has a low barrier to entry but is, like you've said, getting expensive if kids are serious about getting the best mileage for their talent. and if kids aren't keeping up, another kid will be happy to take his roster spot on the team.
@HOOPSVSTHEWRLD3 ай бұрын
@@carparthero Thank you for the insight, it's interesting to see the way basketball is changing to become a high market industry driven by social media, marketing, and ads. Sports betting and other lines of revenue are generating an absurd amount of economic stimulus for sporting cities in America. The talent level is climbing too but as you mentioned, pay walls begin to weed out potentially raw talent that use to have a chance in the early 80s and 90s. Unfortunately, everything is driven by endorsements and money first.

Remember, just because you can't make the NBA doesn't mean you can't play basketball professionally. However, to play basketball professionally, you still have to be one of the best in the world! 😂

I was at the california classic all three days and on the third day we were walking to the vip club because we got free vip bands for a day for no reason and I saw like the game courtside and the speed everyone was moving at and the intensity was insane, also I was rooting against china.

I remember even in the early nineties my mom and I going to an NBA game where we were blessed to sit near the court. (It was the Wizards vs. Hornets.)The speed and intensity was insane even then!!
