I decided to start beekeeping this year and I thought it would be fun to build my own hive and frames. I utilized standard Langstroth Bee Hive plans that can be found all over the internet. I used plans from www.michiganbees.org/beekeepi... to build the frames. I built 10-frame medium hive bodies keeping it simple and uniform.
Overall it was a fun build and it's pretty cool having bees in the backyard farming operation.
Here is some of the Bee Keeping equipment that I purchased

Making these is where a CNC would come in handy.

The frames should be made with the grain running the other way. I know that running the board cross grain is easier but as time goes on they will break. I run my 2x material through a planer too, its a lot quicker to get the dimensions right. For future reference, if you make a 3/4 x 1/2 dado on both ends of the frames and adjust your top and bottom bars for the difference it saves on setup time and you wont lose strength either. You might want to make another hive because this hobby can get addictive. Great video by the way.

When it comes to keeping bees. I have only two regrets. one, that I didn't start twenty years sooner and two that I started with only one hive. it really is best to start with at least two but not more than four hives.

for the cove handles you could have put some stops front and back on the table saw fence and used the dado blade and drop the board onto the blade run it forward and back and you have a handle

Yes that is the correct call on planning First the 1 1/2" down to 1 3/8" for side bars and use a jointer to take the 3/16" releif for bee space on the sides because the two side Bars togather will make a 3/8" Bee space

What's with the little 1/8th tab are the bottom? At 13;30 is a Rebate joint,, 1/2 ,, less exposed End grain to absorb moisture.

Hey, just wanted to let you know, been building my coop and I burnt all wood to make oils come to surface and seal. also added linseed oil to shine and more protection. Ever since I have done this there is Honey bees that come get i guess the sugars from the wood. Funny cause I was thinking about Bee Hive, as i had 2 at previous house. But, Great craftsman ship, nice to see people able to still work with hands.

This is great. I’ve been on the fence about getting bees myself for a long time. Cool to see you take the plunge. What other equipment do you need for harvesting the honey and such? What will you do in the winter months?

Very nice build, and very informative too. Started to subscribe you as well, will be exciting to see what you come up with next. But how about making the narrow part of the sides of the frames with a ruter? , save you a bit of work.....

At the 11:00 mark, you could have just flipped the boards around and reran them, as the dado was to be centered and 5/8" dado stack was set to cut on the line of one side. Those line were equal distance from the edges. Could have done the same thing at the 18:54 mark. Very cool video, I really enjoyed watching it.

FYI- You could have done a single hole in the inner cover. No need for the long rounded slot.

would your frame sides been stronger if you had run them with the grain instead of across the grain? also the person may not have run them through a planer because they did not have one.

Oh no!!!! I enjoyed watching your video very much and cringed when I saw you cutting your side bars against the grain. When they’re supposed to be cut with the grain. I just envisioned all those ears popping off every time you install the top or bottom bars. However enjoyed watching your video. 🤭
