Great Video! But, near the end when you answer the question, "Can anybody do it?" you say... "Sure, there's nothing special about us." Now, that's not exactly true...is it? For instance, your partner is a U.S. Naval Officer, Naval Academy grad, and Navy SEAL. That is special. And you are obviously special, with your engineering skills and experience. I sincerely doubt that "Anybody" can do this. Your life experience combined with your dedication and focus is exceptional. You guys are very special. That said, your willingness to share in great detail this adventure you are on is incredibly valuable. I'm going to watch all of your videos, because from what I have seen, you guys are fascinating and motivational. I live in Tampa, FL near the water, and I hunkered down when Hurricane Irene came to town. WOW...a Hurricane is a mighty force of nature that can put the fear of God into mortal men and SEALs. Once again, thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos and sharing your lessons learned. I wish you the best! And, if you are ever planning on sailing to Tampa Bay (Home of the Buccaneers) I'd love to meet you guys. I'll even buy the beer! -Peace JK from: Tampa Bay

Well done. I think you have a bright future sailing. The fact that you do have a degree in mechanical engineering is impressive and in itself gives you the confidence you can succeed. Choose your mates wisely. I am so confident Ben will stand by you through thick and thin. Love your Australian accent. I follow other sailing channels, on KZbin, in fact, that is where I "found" you recently and began binge-watching from Ep 1 today. As I recall you were interviewed by Brian on Delos or Dan on Uma relatively lately. They wouldn't have done that unless they admire you and your efforts. Fair winds and following seas, my new friend. BTW: Hubby and I are 81 years young and armchair sailors. We did have a 26 ft SeaRay motorboat, Zodak dingy (cruised the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River before we retired we bought new 30 years ago and several Class B RVs over the years. And toured on a large cat in Oahu, Hawaii Diamond Head, sunset and night. I was not afraid but I did get seasick for a little while. I would never get on a monohull sailboat; sailing half in the water on its side. Again best of luck to you, Ben, and the French friend. BTW: tell Ben my hubby had a fascinating life in the military and civil servant. You can read his book "Not Always a Tiger" from Amazon by Jack Coleman. (Including his life in Army Special Forces (attended Navy Diving School, and commanded a Scuba Detachment on Okinawa......Later Director of Narcotics Intelligence, US Customs,, Wash. Can anyone do it? Yes? I don't believe that is a good answer. Most people don't have your ability. I have completely replaced almost every system on a Catalina 380. Very few of the people I know could have done that. I have a couple of friends that have the chops to do fiberglass, electrical, mechanical, etc, etc, etc. I rebuilt my transmission, replaced all the electronics, repaired cushions, resewn the bimini, sail cover and dodger. Not to blow my own horn, but very few people have the ability to fix just about anything. I can see you are one of the few who can, but I don't think you are doing anyone any favors implying that anyone with a willingness to put in the time would have the same level of success you have achieved. The reality is very few people could have succeeded on a project like yours. You are lucky to be gifted with the talent and you have like minded people helping you. Not trying to blow smoke up your ass, but let's keep it real.

Last tip: Be willing to walk away after the survey. We did all our due diligence prior to the offer and made the offer based on our findings. Unfortunately, we couldn't see below the waterline until it was hulled. Two major issues found. After calculating what is would take to repair those issue plus the known issues we had going in, the cost and effort to repair far exceeded what we wanted to put into a boat. Walking away is not easy but at the end of the day it's the right thing to do.

This is amazing, I bought my first hurricane sandy boat 10 years ago. I paid $202.02 for a boat named rare bird, it had twin Lamborghini 12 cylinder engines, my lifestyle changed. Currently i own several vessels, both sail and power. my personal vessel is a 1988 sea Ray 460 with a price tag of 498,000 new . I paid $6,000 for it It had one new engine and one blown engine diesels for air conditioners in relatively good condition it just needed a good cleaning . It passed survey I was shocked . I flip auction vessels and generally get three to five times what I pay for them without even touching them.Sometimes not even seeing them. That's how my wife and I survive. Your expertise is phenomenal. The engineering and mechanical as well as financial efforts you currently possess is the type that develops dynasties. I'm so proud of what I've just heard and seen. Your honesty should not be taken lightly,. You're living a billionaire lifestyle on a minimum wage budget. That raises many questions and even more doubts Among skeptics. I applaud your bravery... Hope to see you one day in the BVI.'s I forgot to mention that $200 investment sold for $225,000 in less than one year... without a single repair.. Pura Vida...

If the boat is floating you can get insurance. But it might not be a great deal for you right now. Talk to insurers and be honist about the current condition of the boat, and where you are going with the repairs. You have the documentation so that should make it easer. Just talk with a buch of guys. Also having a captains license, or taking sailing classes could drop the cost.

Nice open and honest look into what the money side of what it cost to get that beautiful boat back to sail. Having been to the BVI (before hurricane) and knowing the outrageous costs of living there, would have gotten it floating and somewhat sail-able, and immediately headed for cheaper waters. You did that after some time to St. Marten, but still expensive there..think I would have gotten the materials and went to a place in Mexico where they had facilities that could pull the boat, to some of it dry-docked. But the important thing is you guys ended up with a nice boat.
