In 2021 we face the intolerable situation of a UK government which has no serious intention of saving our families, communities or this country from the dire threat of social collapse due to climate and ecological breakdown. Facts are facts.
Insulate Britain is a single standing nonviolence campaign involving people from XR and other networks who are coming to make a clear a no-brainer demand: to get on with the job of decarbonisation by insulating all public housing in the UK. If this demand is not substantially responded to, then a campaign of escalating civil disobedience will be undertaken this autumn.
The campaign is inspired by the 1961 Freedom Riders. To do whatever is non-violently necessary to confront an intolerable injustice. We have no time for anything less.

There are other dimensions that are maybe difficult to squeeze in in an hour or so. The idea of 'shared fate', that the group feels internally 'safe' in the face of external hostility and the role of song in acknowledging and feeling that sense of shared fate and intent. 'Buses are a coming' is such an empowering song.

People have to commit themselves to spend time out in the streets practicing the civil disobedience that got laws passed that never would’ve otherwise been had the citizens not shown up until they got what they wanted and deserved. This crisis cannot be ignored with or without the pandemic. My personal feeling is the pandemic is a side effect of our dying planet. How can we have healthy human beings when we have an unhealthy planet? It’s all connected.

Sad thing is it didn’t ‘end’ racial inequality. But it changed things for the better. As a 42 yr old with a toddler, how can I help? Is it reasonable to be put in jail with a small dependant child? Should I take her with me?

Our target isnt defined and our player base dont see the edge is comeing . If destruction is the last possible choice, then yes it’s nonviolent protective force. Nonviolence from my pov is BY ALL MEANS POSSIBLE peaceful. MalcomX’s like yourself, promotes destroying the tools of violence, by all means necessary. Pick your side, and be clear which you are on. Both are effective together but only when kept in separate spaces, as they cancel each other out. So please don’t confuse what is or is not nonviolence (in the kingian tradition). ta+
