In order to understand the FLDS culture, you need to know the men can be typically abusive, they ostracize, they kick the boys out when they reach age (Look up The Lost Boys) They are almost always Narcissist, Some have sociopathic tendencies and it is all about control. I found the statement by Robyn about Kody's needs being rejected a crock. Christine was literally broken when she told the camera KODY told her he did not want an intimate marriage with her anymore and she could not live like that. He also on numerous occasions stated he would withhold his affection if the wives were not being good/respectful/obedient. I call BS on Robyn.

It’s such a gaslight as well. Meri begged him for a closer relationship for years. He treated Janele like a business partner and used Christine to be the homemaker. The reason Janelle and Christine are so close is because they’ve been raising their family the way their doctrine actually prescribed. As one family with everyone contributing what they can. It sounds like Kody wanted to do some niche stuff. Whatever that is, what ever not my business to link shame, but to chalk up three of his marriages failing to that is ridiculous.

@finevindicatedmess2 жыл бұрын
Kody's concern about COVID made no sense to me and his fear about his children's safety does not have a good track record. In season 6, episode 16, Truely was hospitalized because of kidney failure (which kinda makes the "knife in the kidney!" line all the more ironic). Aside from Truely, the only children that are under 13 are Robyn's children. Christine, Janelle, and Meri's children are all high school teenagers or older. If you ask me, this was just a subtle but pathetic way to say "I need to protect Robyn's children because Robyn is the favorite." Kody doesn't take accountability for any of his children besides Robyn's children. I would think that having children with 4 different wives gets confusing. But the wording of "Janelle's children" or "Christine's children" sounds like he isn't acknowledging the fact that he made those children. It's like I always say -- anyone can be a father (or in Kody's case, a sperm donor). It takes a certain type of man to earn the title of daddy.

Robyn is talking about sexual behavior, attitude, over all behavior. In past episodes, she has described her ex as seemingly abusive to her and their kids, a poor provider, overall lacking in what she perceived a husband should be. She came to the Brown family having nothing and on welfsre. In other episodes, she made it clear she wanted a husband who was the opposite of her ex and would give her what she wanted for herself and her kids. She dropped all of her facade in part 3 when she made it clear that she studied Kody's interatctions with other wives and made certain to hone her skills to behave with him completely the opposite of behavior he complained about or observed in others even to the superficial aspects of looks. When he is testy with her, she becomes a hurt, helpless puppy who doesn't blame him but other wives for being disrespectful to him and reminds him how she adores him. She deflects him, makes him blame others for his bad behavior towards her and feel guilty.

I believe you are correct in your interpretation of what she was saying in that clip. In the early seasons they talked about how Janelle isn't openly affectionate and he hated it. So eventually she just had to get more comfortable with PDA's and just being more openly affectionate in general. They also keep talking about loyalty. But it seems to me that when he says he wants their loyalty he wants their obedience and to be subservient to him. When he says he wants them to respect him it also seems like he really is saying he wants them to stop having their own opinions and just do what they are told. It is really sad.

Looking back at season 1 it’s now obvious to me that the happy, seemingly contented Kody that seemed so happy with his 3 OG wives was really his giddy ness because Robyn was new and would be his 4th wife. Robyn was the reason he was so over the moon, not because he was happily married to his other 3 wives. I think Kody gave up on his first 3 marriages as soon as Robyn was in the picture but he was happy to have their incomes so he could give Robyn everything she wanted.

Yes, kudos to Suki to getting Kody to the point of apologizing to Gabe and Garrison HOWEVER I flinched in pain at the words of his apology. Kody talked about protecting 'my family'. Kody proclaimed that the boys were going to kill 'my kids' by not obeying all his covid rules. He positioned his son's with Janelle as 'other'. 'Other' would not obey to protect 'my family (aka Robyn and her kids)'. We heard Kody tell Gabe and Garrison that they are not his family. Kody speaks of them in sexually vulgar terms and accuses them of being potential killers of 'my family'. Kody says that 'Next Time' he will do better. There is no 'Next Time' for Kody. He has burned his bridges. They are all independent adults now. He has no say and zero influence on their actions now. There is zero chance that Gabe, Garrison or many of the kids would accept this 'apology'. There is a song by Harry Chapin called 'Cats in the Cradle' that Kody should study. Then he may begin to understand.

Robin's polygamy experience growing up was like the seperate homes for each wife/family. Her mother taught her to compete with the other wives to make her home/setting far more appealing thus insuring the father would prefer being there over the other! Best customer!

You're right! He said something about how marriages survive for years without intimacy and Christine got big mad. She basically said she did not wish that for herself or any of her sister wives either. So it definitely was portrayed as though Kody is the one who is cutting off intimate connection with his wives. We know that's what he did with Mary, but he's following a pattern here. I think maybe what Robin was talking about was directed at Janelle's relationship with Kody. It has been said that Janelle was comfortable with the relationship, she chose the dogs in the bed over Kody, and Chritine had said things in the past to the effect of "Janelle's relationship with Kody would never work for me" Heck, at the end of it. Janelle even said they were basically just friends, but not in love. I always got the impression that there was no physical relationship between them.
@jholmansky2 жыл бұрын
I thought the statement made sense. It sounded to me like Kody wanted the wives to do things sexually they weren't comfortable doing. Christine could have still wanted an intimate/sexual relationship with him but refused to do certain sexual things that made her uncomfortable. Her potential refusal and Robyn's obvious willingness could also have been part of the reason Kody ended their physical relationship. He takes a "give me what I want or you don't get what you want" approach. It's messed up.

I think the more Kody visited those other polygamy families the more he questioned why his marriages were failing. He saw that the other wives appeared to respect their husband. They were considerate, respectful, and caring toward their sister wives (as far as the cameras showed. He liked what he heard). I truly believe he wished he was like the Joe Darger. He thought by going public he would be changing the world. He said so several times. But he didn't have the marriage that Joe did. He didn't have a "hold" of his wives like Joe did. He wasn't seen as the head of the family. And he didn't help decriminalized polygamy like that family did. He is sitting in a life of what he perceives as a failure and can't cope. He is a failed polygamist...his worst fear (not poverty as he would have people to believe). He has to find blame from those around him. Those who aren't subordinate to him. He can only blame the wives because they made his biggest fear come fruition. But on the other hand the Dargers aren't what they seem. And from what I've read on Reddit of someone who dated within that family, it sounds like Kody is definitely taking after Joe. I wonder what those convos have been like. it's just too bad he married strong willed women who have finally found their voices. Oopsies 🤭

@gaillyons91562 жыл бұрын
I have often wondered, if Cody had created his COVID protocols, in an effort to exclude his less favorite wives. I believe he made ever changing demands, and when he saw how it alienated his other families, he preferred it that way. He was able to secure time with his chosen relationships. Initially other wives struggled in the chaos of trying to understand what was expected of them. They finally got the ridiculous list of “rules” 8(?) months later. By then, and by Cody’s planning, the other family members could not, and/or would not entertain them. Cody then was able to use the small children, in his favored home, as the reasoning for his protocol’s. Cody began the pandemic by trying to keep everyone safe, and ended it with trying to keep Robins kids safe(the “little ones”)
@violetraal53832 жыл бұрын
I think it's Robyn's rules, to be honest. Robyn put herself and Solomon in the 'at risk' category and made these rules up to keep them ' safe' or separated. If you look at the first get- together the family had during Covid, it was Robyn trying to keep everyone separated, even Kody seem to forget that they had to socially distance. She was totally stressed out during that get- together.
@Kiki-Kauai2 жыл бұрын
@@violetraal5383 EXACTLY! Robyn believes herself to be a fragile china doll. Or that’s how she expects to be treated. She’s the one that said Kody couldn’t be away from her little kids. The "best customer" comment actually broke my heart. If Kody is Robyn's customer, she is selling herself to him, and his expextations are for services paid for and rendered. Sex has been big business for many hundreds of years, and it still is. Selling sex has nothing to do with love or intimacy, it's purely physical and the seller is very often doing it for survival. Robyn has no means of supporting herself or her children without Kody?. I don't think she has many skills that she could parlay into a career, or even just a minimum wage job. She is caught in a nightmare of her own making. Her husband really is her best and only customer, and that gives him, a narcissistic, egomaniacal, delusional, raging, going-off-the-deep-end loser, all the power.
@elainepowell57682 жыл бұрын
In regards to Robyn's comments about "affection", I agree with you. I think she was talking about sex. It makes you wonder what kind of kinky things Kody is into. It could also help explain Robyn's anger towards the failing of the family- is she now left with the burden of Kody's sexual desires? I also believe that Kody controls the narrative. He probably tells Robyn that "so in so" won't do this, but if she is a good wife, she will. According to Christine, Kody cutting off intimacy was one of the reasons she gave for leaving so I don't buy Robyn's story.

From the beginning she would call on him to fix xyz or do a task for her that she could clearly do herself but calls on him so felt needed. I believe. Where the other wives wouldn't because they didn't want to seem too needy because they thought he would feel resentment because of all the responsibilities he has with all the other wives. When i watched this it was like a Aahaaa....💡

I also thought that Robyn was talking about the bedroom because of Kody talking about earning favor and the interviewer had no idea what Robyn has done to earn favor. Then go to Robyn were she is saying that the other wives rejected Kody's affection or something that the other wives were uncomfortable with. Robyn rants about the other women's weight and stretch marks which means that Kody is sharing intimate details about the other wives with Robyn.

My take on why Kody has changed from the seemingly happy go lucky goofy guy in the earlier episodes to this angry demanding man is this. 1. Three of the wives (Not Robyn) : In the early episodes his wives were happier, they were getting most of their needs met. They had irritations with Kody and the other wives, but were willing to work through them. As they found that Kody was not willing to work with them, but rather start demanding they fall in line and do what he wanted, no questions, and their (except Robyn) thoughts and feelings were dismissed they started to loose hope and slowly give up. During this time they were having to see the preferential treatment of Robyn, how her views and needs were priority to Kody, and how he didn't try to hide it from them. The wives gradually stopped stroking Kody's ego by showing the admiration for him, and found their voices in asking for what they wanted, and calling him out on his treatment of them and their children. He did not like this as in his mind he is perfect and how dare they say otherwise, so he started to further alienate each of them to punish them. Trying to justify his preferential treatment of Robyn. 2. The Kids (Not Robyn's) In the early episodes the kids were younger and in the stage where Kody was their hero. As they started developing their own personalities and voicing their thoughts and wishes, Kody felt threatened. Instead of embracing it, and he started pushing them away as they quit stroking his ego by fully admiring him. He got angrier and angrier as each of his wives and children set boundaries and expectations. In Kody's world , he should be able to treat each of them, anyway he wants, and they should consider themselves blessed that they are allowed in be in his presence. Summary :when the whole family was stroking his ego, they were all wonderful people....he was Happy.... As they quit... He got angrier!
