I've always done it, 'cause I'm lazy, I don't like playing Keystone Kops with Reapers etc., I think maybe pro's think of it more like a skill check. Blind spores in the early for sure, spines a bit later inconvenience Hellions, Zealots, etc. but I'll get 3 spores on my main eventually, one by either gas at first, and one in front so Libs, Phoenix, and Oracles, etc. don't snipe my larvae!
