We did an experiment on feeding cows hay last week and decided to do a video showing how we normally feed our cows. We have several smaller pastures spread out. For years we hauled one bale at a time on a pickup truck. Last year we started loading up the gooseneck trailer and feeding several pastures at once. Seems to save a lot of time!

Ben it's been a wet winter here in eastern Oklahoma as well. After the hot dry summer we had I don't hear anyone complaining about the rain we've been getting. A lot of the times what moves through here hits your guys later

I’m the same way. It gets pretty wet in the winter here usually. We’ve been through a couple very dry summers though so I don’t complain when it does rain. I think you’re right. Seems like our rain usually gets started out in Texas and comes across the south

Nice office views! Our only barns are two old chicken houses built by my Papaw in the 1950s or so. And, yes’ one of them is half filled with hay.

There is an old one on some property that used to be Eric’s grandparents where we have some cows now. Not sure when the house was built but probably 50s or 60s. We still use it for storage and also to catch and load cows/calves out of. It’s still hanging in there.

I have the same tractor but a different loader, it does everything, but sometimes wish it was a little heavier. That also comes with some down falls, i see where in your case it is the perfect size tractor. I found your video's from you AI ing cows, I am going to school the last week in March to learn how to AI cows. I really appreciate the videos.

We really like the size of it and the hydrostatic transmission. It would be nice if it was a little heavier though. Sometimes our haylage bales are a little on the heavy side for it. Especially if we bale them at 60”. Glad you found our channel. Thanks for watching. Good luck with AI school.

One thing that really drives me bonkers about these newer tractors is how the 3pt tilts down when you lift it. I’ve tried adjusting it all different ways and even bought a quick hitch thinking maybe that would help. Nope, still wants to dump the bale!
@FarmerHunt

Yeah I've turned around a time or two in the hay field and realized ive lost a bale because of that.

Can y'all do a video in the spring/summer showing what the area that you feed in looks like during that time of the year? Does it recover well because of the added nutrients? Is it behind because of being more muddy?
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt Жыл бұрын
Sure! I think that would be a good follow up video. The area usually takes a little longer to recover in the spring but eventually does pretty good. Sometimes it tends to have more weeds on it starting out.

We rotate some where we can. Unfortunately we are restricted by water and also by cross fencing options. We rent several of our pastures so we just have to work with what’s there.
@FarmerHunt

Do you have running water where you rotate?

Yes and if it doesn’t put it in whether buried pipe or above ground pipe anything is better than nothing.

@@KentSmith-vn9rm I didn’t take it that way at all. That pasture is a rental, and we just hadn’t taken the time to work in the fence in the last few weeks. Finally got around to tightening up a few places and got a hot wire going. So far it’s helping. We enjoy reading all the comments and seeing how other people do things. We are always up for suggestions too

Thank you for sharing a Bible verse but I can't find the one you quoted at the end of your video "Proverbs 27: verses 34-35" Perhaps you got the chapter and verses wrong? My Bible has 27 verses for Proverbs chapter 27.

I'm seeing a lot of rust on the newer Deere's that are less than 4 years old...tough little tractor.
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt Жыл бұрын
Our loader and wheels have started showing some rust. Between the chicken houses and mud feeding cows it does pretty good though. Trying to do a better job of cleaning it more often. The chicken litter is very rough on equipment

@@FarmerHunt We have broiler chickens. Certainly important to wash the gear after...but we run 2 Ventracs and 1 Steiner from 1993...they have less rust than your JD. Could it be from road salt?
@tf7274
@tf7274 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's your washing practices. Its the lack of quality in Deere's new paint. I'm seeing it on new $600,000 combines and tractors.
@FarmerHunt
@FarmerHunt Жыл бұрын
We don’t have any road salt around here so that wouldn’t be it. We have on occasion had to spread some plt in the chicken houses so I know that’s pretty corrosive. Either way I’m sure the paint quality is not what it used to be also.
