Sadly that underground, random warehouse/field type party madness filled with love and going home early mornin’ still off yer tits watching the normal world going about their lives type vibe is unlikely to be replicated these days but the music is still fire at many current shows. There’s nothing like the sound & vibe of the early shows like Fantazia, Dreamscape ESP and the like tho imo

Born and raised in the States, here.. With that begin said I first discovered Drum and Bass, from when I first played Grand Thef Auto 3. There was a station called MSX FM, which was a spoof of an "underground" pirate radio station that was based in London. After playing countless hours of the game listening to it I became a huge fan of the genre.

The DNB scene is a very close scene so all these mc’s are performing at roughly 3/4 clubs a week most weeks so they all mc with each other regularly The dj’s usually mix a beat for it to drop on the mix so mc’s can usually hear the tune being mixed in so they are ready for the drop. As I said these guys perform multiple shows each week so they’ve mastered it Eksman is a veteran over 20 years of killing it and has always been a favourite of mine, his son J Mulla has started smacking up raves Skibadee has been here since the 90’s when mc’in over jungle music (early era of dnb) with Stevie Hyper D who passed in the late 90’s, skibba has also passed in recent years and I believe this was because of his sickle cell 😢 Harry Shotta is from the same town as me and done quite a few sets with him in the past (15 years ago now) he come into dnb in the early 2000’s and was part of UNCZ with Skibadee, funsta and Dreps Azza & Grima they started making it big about 7/8 years ago and have been about for about 10 years now and are called TNA (the new age) Dreps is great and has an original Flow, he was a proper road man and not one to be messed with he’s been about since early 2000’s Drum and bass isn’t really about tracks (songs recorded in the studio) but they’ve started doing it more in recent years, it’s all about life performances, dj’s mixing beats and the mc’s spitting over them Dnb raves go on every weekend and they get recorded - 1 hour sets a Dj or two and a few mc’s just having it in the club and they usually run from 10-4/6am with loads of dj’s and mc’s passing through all night It’s more about the live performances than anything!

From Afro Caribbean clubs, in Bristol, Leeds and London to free parties on Welsh hill tops, the scene in the mid/late 90's, early 2000s was banging. Punk/Metal head at heart with a love for turntablists from the 80's 90s', dark D&B with a cracking MC, hits a spot no other 'dance' music can reach. Still hit the Welsh hill tops when a free D&B night/weekend is on, but nothing captures those early days, or maybe my hips and knees can not take it like they used to😂💜

I've been following dnb since 98. Roni Size changed the game for me.. Went down the rabbit hole... Early internet, discovering mixtapes.. Too young to rave... 2000 was my first event... Southern California has a healthy dnb scene. Skiba is a legend... His last show in LA went off.. I'm in a few of those vids lol... Us in the States? We've always been jealous of you guys. You have flyers showing dnb artists for like, 20 bucks.. Any one of those would be a headliner here lol... Still to this day haven't seen eksman live. Seen GQ, Tonn Piper, shabba.. Here in the States, Armanni Reign and Dino are top... Cool to see this reaction, as dnb mcs got shit in the early 00s. Other times as well.. Brings a whole other element to the sound. Guys have been spitting over jungle and Drum and bass for 30 years. It actually come out of hardcore back in the day. Back then there was no crime. The U.K. hip hop scene was low key. So mcs and lyricist jumped on the jungle scene, and over years Uk garage was born, which had mcs, then after that came crime, which produced mcs like dizzy rascal, and Kano. And many others. You could argue that jungle- drum and bass mcs were the major influences to that scene today.

I would say it’s not even an argument, like you said Ukg emerged out the dnb scene at the time. I would argue garage as we know it wouldn’t be what it is or atleast wouldn’t of came as early.

harry shotta and skibba are/were part of a group called SASASAS, which includes all of these MCs - Harry shotta, skibba (rip), shabba D & Stormin MC (rip). and the other 2 members are DJs, DJ Phantasy and Macky gee who became a absolute legend in the dnb scene after releasing his track “tour” which is one of the most well known dnb tracks of all time

D&B or even old school hardcore in the UK always had MCs live over the tracks. They are with each other every weekend putting their lyrics down on different DJs beats so they usually know each others best bits. If you ever check out Uprising from as far back as the 90s it was similar.

Any of the sets live like this when it’s all the guys going back to back are just so raw and I feel like there isn’t really anything else like it in the US EDIT: that sounded like a diss but it wasn’t, dnb and grime are the most raw UK music you can get so a lot of it just vibes and the fact that they have done this set possibly quite a lot of times with each other

No idea if you guys will read this but plz ignore everyone who tries to gate keep DnB from you. People will nitpick and try to bash you for being late to the party, not knowing the lingo and so on... don't get caught up into that! DnB is for everyone to enjoy. btw, one of the first songs that got me hooked with this genre was an US colab - this may be a surprise but Cypress Hill did a track with Roni Size in 2002 called "Child of the Wild West", there's even a video to the song. :)

jungle / drum and bass raves in the early years were groups of human beatbox's and mc's taking turns for hours only using vocals; unlike edm that was often produced in studios as a track then dj plays that with mc on top.
