Very very good video!!! Always learning something! I didn't know about the ring sound!!! Very good indeed. Now, I have a doubt. If memory serves me, in one video u said keris kodi was band. In another video you said it was ok. Now, for what I see in this video, kodi should be considered bad. Am I right? Is it bad or ok? Depends on circumstances? Stay safe my friend! Cheers!

It would depend on two situations. If one merely wants a piece for the fun of it and nothing more, a kodi would do just fine. But if one wants to embark on an experiential lifelong learning journey with hopes of making a profit out of it; a long term investment; then a kodi is definitely not the best in value. Think of it in terms of mass produced vs limited edition. Premiums is more on the limited edition ones. So in this video, I answered the frequently asked question of what is a “good” keris? Any piece that answers all these questions well, is a good keris. A keris is more than just the shape and looks. Just because it is shaped like a keris doesn’t means by default it is “good”. There is much more to be assessed. Mind boggling isn’t it? 😊 - JoFe.

@@TheKerisCollector oh!!! I see. Now I understand 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This is yet another very good video! I consider your videos an online class for study and research where one can easily understand and learn the knowledge you pass. And one of the best part is that you give support to anyone who have doubts. That is an invaluable service you are doing to your culture and to us keris enthusiasts! Congratulations my friend!!! Here in USA I will wander into an Antique shop and occasionally find a Keris in a display case , being sold for a couple hundred dollar US. I'll unsheath the Keris to find someone has taken a grinder and tried to grind off the Pamor , thinking it to be rust ....often with huge amounts of metal being removed ..always heart breaking. Any thoughts on how to spread word for folks in other countries not to do that?

Under the besi aspect, I also consider good sepuhan ( heat treatment) . The blade can hold edge & being tough to withstand impact. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6HVqn2oaZmbjdk

Quenching in a liquid whilst the blade is still red hot is the definitive description for “nyepuhan”. That gives a blade a strong edge that prevents the blade edge from dulling and cracking. Every keris made by an empu and pandai besi, worth their salt, requires this process to be carried out. Those manufactured by pengrajins producing keris-kerisans and kodis rarely will quench-treat whatever they produce for the mass market. To experienced collectors, quenching is a no brainer. But it is not the only determinant in establishing a good blade. Peninsular Malay Blades in the style of “besi sebatang”, often hyped for this quench treatment is not indicative of skill and experience of the pandai besi. There are other factors to be considered. On pamur blades, it is obvious and easy to ascertain the level of experience and skill of the empu or pandai besi. If the blade is not made right upon “nyepuh”, the blade will warp, crack, split or even shatter upon immersion in liquid of choice. Can be water, oil, blood, etc. Your video does not demonstrate any “nyepuhan”. Only the hammering process was shown. Congratulations on having an alternative shaving tool. Never has it been recorded in any written work on this subject that a keris is used for shaving. A bit demeaning to see a keris, that has been the symbol for many in Nusantara, reduced to a tool to shave leg hair. Devaluing this object with high aesthetic and philosophical value to a mere common household implement. - JoFe.

@@TheKerisCollector yes it had been gone into nyepuhan stage, there's quench line on the blade sir. i tested the hardness with hardened metal file, it simply glide and cannot bite the edge. Kodi blade edge will simply roll and cannot hold edge . Pardon for my shaving, I was exited after sharpening. :D
