The first spell on Izutsumi seems so sinister: it's wound around her neck like a collar, it goes off if the subject is away from the caster for longer than a set time, and when triggered (as happens accidentally during the episode) it summons a terrifying, knife-wielding Hag demon figure. What else could it be but an enslavement bond? In the manga, there is a hilarious extra that reveals it was actually invented by Maizuru as a _babysitting_ tool that activates, if the child is out past bedtime. She thinks of the horrible paper doll spirit that is conjured by it as a benevolent child-minder, who gently ushers the wayward tyke back home, when it's time to stop playing outside, and she appears absolutely oblivious to how terrifying it is. Shuro was completely traumatised by an encounter with it, when he stayed out too late as a child, one day.

Marcille and Laios and Farlin are indeed from the same region, the Northern Continent. The story takes place in a island of the the Eastern Continent, not to be confused with the Eastern Archipelago from where Shuro, Rin and Izutsumi are from. The Elves everyone talks about are the "Western Elves" of the Northen-Central and Southern-Central Continents. Kabru and Kuro are from the actual Western Continent by the way.

It’s interesting how we get to tackle the issue of lifespan difference of humans and elfs from Marcille and Frieren perspective. Frieren is her regret of not getting to know people arround her do to her perspective of time because of her super long lifespan that has made them more loners. Marcille other hand seems to be more on the death aspect, the thought that one day your parents are going to die before you, but in Marcille case it’s pretty much everyone except for other elfs.

One of the extras gives the birth place of a lot of characters and Laios (as well as Falin) and Marcille all come frrom morre or less the same region of the same continent, unlike other tall-men like Shuro, Kabru and the Tansu Twins who all come from other continents. Any resemblance between Laios and Marcille's dad is probably just on account of their shared ethnicity.

I'm a manga-reader, and many "spoilers" here aren't actually spoilers bc it's technically not from the manga. It's from the Adventurer's Bible or smth like that; it's some kind of supplementary book of Dunmesh that helps enrich the story and the world-buiding; many of the informations on this book did not make it into the manga bc the plot would be too convoluted, lol. So it creates this kind of gray area where it's not really a spoiler since it's not from the manga, but on the other hand, it kinda ruined the element of surprise? I completely understand that anime-onlies would love to learn these infos themselves - not from random people telling them. But some manga readers might've thought "hey, since anime-onlies are only gonna watch the anime, and the anime won't cover the Bible, they're gonna miss a bunch of super awesome cool things from the Bible! Let's spoil the Bible to let them know how awesome the show actually is!" ... Yeah, even me as a manga reader has a mixed feelings about this. 😅

I love Laios he figured out that entire dream thing on his own Laios never fumbles his knowledge of monsters is impeccable and I know you’re supposed to view him is stupid because the writer of use my stupid and down plays him a lot but he still wrote him to be MVP it doesn’t matter how bad the situation as he is always calm he is always collective always has some sort of plan or idea he rarely makes mistakes Most of the time is failures just because something is beyond his understanding Chilchuck is aware of mimics, but he got locked in a room with one and failed to check for the proper traps and the mimics location. He didn’t pay attention at all and he knew that it was there. Marcelle new wouldn’t undine was and knew they were very creatures in the water and even knew how undeans were made, and still poured boiling water in the river Senshi is honestly second best he would survive the longest without them obviously his big cardinal sin is just trusting a kelpee that’s kinda it that’s more of a lapse in judgment, and just not paying attention Laios it’s pretty much almost never not paying attention he’s the one who came up with the frog plan, the one who came up with the idea to kill the dragon Even as a male character, he’s a different in their portrayal of masculinity is not like a Deku “where is conquest in ambition, quenching my thirst as I look over the sea and mentally other words, I’m going to be number one hero” or Eren Yeager where his masculinity comes from bucking the system being combative and authoritative you know, punching Armin and trying to kill everyone and stuff so he can take that control of his life Laios’s is different from a lot of anime characters that go with the typical Deku route which is really just Naruto’s route. I Laios he’s calm and collected. He’s driving. Motivation isn’t necessarily to be the best at something but it’s to protect the people he cares about and explore the world around him He’s a very kind although I wouldn’t say he’s nice he doesn’t make mistakes as a result of not paying attention to the surroundings, like the others he makes them due to a lack of understanding he’s even able to keep his composure, and think one Farlyn is turned into a hybrid monster Laios is very good at cooperating with people and his knowledge is what makes him honestly as useful as senshi is in the party As a male character I think he is written exceptionally well in how they choose to show that he is amazing, not true power ups or quirky, predictable, personality traits, but through subtle actions that he takes throughout the story even in this episode, he’s coming to somebody who just threaten to kill him and threatened someone he cares about

Look at how nice I am.” Laios is closer to Denji in his forgiveness Denji is a very forgiving person I swear his 180 honestly more like a 540 with power cause he went from hating her to loving her is something to be respected his patients with a leech devil even after she took his arm is something to be respected he tried to talk to her before deciding that she needed to be eliminated He is so patient with people and it’s honestly crazy even when Aki pushed his face into the wall upon meeting him denji was calm and explain himself Laios is no different as a guy there’s something cool to me about just having restraint particularly with other guys show it it’s not like Denji or Laios doesn’t have the capacity to retaliate and they certainly can’t fight that as well is very important but it’s that they choose not to because they don’t have to you don’t always need to swing a sword and shoot a gun to get things you want from people Laios got a girl to not only but not her guard but not immediately smack him for touching her head by being friendly, Denji did things to strengthen his relationship with Aki like talking to him Aki during chapter 71 and helping him get revenge on katana man in Chapter 26 they found other ways to make these people less violent towards them for taking time to get to know them and for giving them for past behavior he spoke to Aki on numerous occasions and he may not think he has a heart, but he’s so sympathetic Laios does some of the same stuff and it’s these types of things that makes me love them Ironic that they’re both considered dogs
