I am happy that you are focusing on these beautiful areas. If you look at Sri Lanka the North, North western and the Eastern provinces are neglected by the Government. These places are systematically deprived of development Yet there are very beautiful areas and beaches to see. If you look at SL where the Minorities live then you can see one thing for sure. That is all these areas are the poorest in the country as they are underdeveloped. The government of SL is least bothered and they always look at everything based on Racial Lines. They are 100 years behind modern society. Only private investors and Diasporas invest in these areas. Now the tourists from India and other western countries are getting interested because of people like you showing these parts of the country. Now there is a very good potential that many tourists can come from India and other countries. These places are much cheaper than Colombo, and many other areas. There are also less tourist Scammers and less crime, Pollution I am sure. So Tourists can enjoy peaceful days. I used to live in SO many years ago but now I live in Europe for many years including Germany. Your videos are bringing focus of these provinces and lets hope it will bring more tourists so that the marginalized people of SL can serve the tourists and earn a decent living without becoming Greedy

99% of the time when you see me talking, I have both hands on the handles. The camera is on a stick that slots in so I can ride the bike properly and have full control if I need to stop etc. Been riding for many years across lots of countries with zero incidents so no dramas

You can travel both ways...Ones not better than the other...have to understand..Most ppl dont have the privilege to just continually travel....So they have to stick to a more organized way of travel...I love to explore as well... But I'm a full time traveler... But most have two weeks at the most and barely that...I just find full time travelers tend to have this habit or turning their noises up at those who travel more like a holiday...short and to the point..Almost making it out that they are, REAL", travelers...without acknowledging that not everyone can or knows they can do the same ..Not criticizing u... And loving the vids... just found this common amongst travel vloggers... "Like I'm not like the rest of those rubbish tourist"...I do it better..

I went to Jaffna five years ago and recall just what you describe about seeming to be the only outsider in town. It seems to have changed little in the interim in a good kind way. Great video, subscribed!

I really wanted to go to Jaffna on my first trip to Sri Lanka in 2017, but Sri Lankans in Colombo, Negombo etc were warning me that at the time it still wasn't safe. I think in hindsight, their advice was perhaps misjudged. How did you find it there 5 years ago? Had the tensions simmered down? Thanks so much 🙂

@@TheWanderLife I timed that trip to be there for the 10th anniversary of the end of the civil war but when I was in the south held off telling anyone my intentions of going to the far north because of pre existing biases/enmities. There had been no mechanism for post war truth and reconciliation. I found Jaffna chill if still littered with war damage. The locals were friendly but entirely unused to tourism (which was fine by me). When I was first in Negombo in 2007 the war was still going on and it wasn't possible to visit the north without undertaking great risk so I was just happy to be able to crisscross those former front lines.

@FabledCity How was that in the sense of being a milestone? Was it recognised or even celebrated anywhere? I found it quite odd in the north seeing war memorials specifically devoted to the Sri Lankan soldiers etc. I don’t recall ever seeing any recognition of any loss of life for Tamil people, so I wonder how the two parts of the country would recognise that date differently. I found that biases/fears still existed on my last visit, although to a lesser extent perhaps. I would for instance tell people that I was/had been in the north and they would tell me to be careful, but almost in a casual way as opposed to the warnings of genuine danger I received the first time around

@@TheWanderLife What interested me was that it was not being talked about at all. Once the LTTE was ultimately crushed I think a sense of somber subjugation had set in in the north and east to where the war was only relegated to the hushed tones of the recent bloody past. With no method of bicommunal healing having ever been implemented I sensed it's not entirely improbable that political violence could one day return. The easter bombings then occurred right after I left for Thailand.

@rebeccaobris9751 Yea, I mean I understand why most tourists visit the south coast and Ella etc, but the north really has an incredible charm and so I feel very fortunate to have a well rounded experience of the country as a whole

Hi Wayne enjoy the land of Jaffna , where I was born some 77 years ago. The Pond you swam was Keeimalai pond and the beach you went was Senthan kulam which is a beach , shallow for about half a mile , used to go with my father all the time. Was out of bounds for public and controlled by the naval and armed forces when I went there last time in 2016 Looks like the places are open now , from the time, the country went bankrupt due to the supressive policies of the regime at that time , at least in part that contributed to the downfall. They need foreign money , there you go, things are opening out , Blessings of God.

Hey there! Amazing! What a truly incredible birthplace you have! There was certainly a small military presence on that north coast, but at this point nothing was closed off as far as I could see at least. I did head to the lighthouse in Point Pedro (next video) but that was enclosed within the grounds of a naval base now, but aside from that it was all pretty low key. Will be very interested to see how things are when I eventually make my next trip back to the country 😊

The Keerimalai pond that you swam in is supposed to have all sorts of healing powers including a cure for impotence. As for tourists going off the beaten path to get the most out of the island, the majority come for 2 or 3 weeks so it makes sense that they stick to the main attractions.

Well it certainly cured my pain from the heat at least! Yea, I absolutely get it. I mean the last time I came to Sri Lanka was for a month and even then with that much time I only managed to get around a small section of the country so I understand why people more favour the south etc
