Wow. Took me 25 years to realize that wasn’t a computer-generated voice. Lol! He’s a legend around these parts!

As a tourist I can’t stress how much I love the crisp clean announcements. It makes getting around so much easier.

To make another comment on this video, I do remember hearing the conductors speaking the staffs back then, when I wrote the train, I never heard the engineers voice, though it was always the conductor, announcing the stocks and punching tickets with a whole punch. I don’t remember what year they stopped announcing Live, but I’m pretty sure it had to have been 1993 or four I could be off, but I think that’s when the conductors stopped announcing the station stops for the L but I do remember back in the 80s listening to them announcing the stops.

When CTA had him count to a thousand that makes sense because the train announces the run number because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “Welcome Aboard Red Line Run”

I think about this interview every time I get on the bus

I used to live in Chicago and I rode the elevated train back in the 1980s and I remember the conductors announcing and they would always say. Have a great day. See you in the afternoon! I did not know that Lee crooks was the voice for CTA the elevated train nowadays. I was talking with a bus driver now that I live in Tacoma Washington in Pierce County about that and I thought for all these years that it was a computer generated voice Come to find out that it actually is one guy announcing the stops on the outing. Also, I didn’t want to point out. A lot of people make this mistake when I was living in Chicago I never ever met the L train engineers, but a lot of people say that the conductors drive the train which is not true. Conductors do not drive trains. They punched the tickets and help you get on and off the train. the engineer is totally separate. They’re the ones that operate the train and they are in the engine, but the conductor is not the one who operates the train. They might signal to the engineer to make the train go and Stop, but the conductor doesn’t have anything to do with the engine. That’s the engineers job so they are actually two different people but as far as I know, I remember meeting the conductors on the elevated train back in the 1980s, but I never met the engineers who operated the train. I agree with a couple of commenters that did say you do not drive a train because it’s true one does not drive a train. They operate a train you drive a bus which has a steering wheel a train is not driven. It is operated with levers. You can drive a bus but you can’t drive a train you cannot drive a train. You can operate a train. That’s where a lot of people get it wrong. They say that they conductor drives the train but that’s not true at all if you’re gonna drive something, it would be a bus. You can definitely drive a bus but you can’t drive a train. The train actually drives itself you operate the train. The train will see itself because of the tracks where it is a bus you actually have to drive it. That’s why you hear bus operators, or bus driver. You never hear a train driver or the conductor driving a train. This part does not make sense because it’s false. A lot of people have this belief And they say that the conductor drives a train but that is totally false. The conductor is actually back with the passengers and they are the ones that collect the tickets or they used to, but they do not drive the train. Nobody drives the train. You can’t do that. The engineer operates the train. A bus driver drives a bus which has a totally different vehicle and yes, a train cannot be driven, but a bus can trains have levers whereas a bus has a steering wheel and it might have some levers to operate it but you actually drive the bus you cannot drive a train

I want that man to narrate my life. If I'm fucking some shit up, I need Lee Crooks to talk about it

Conductors don’t drive trains…they announce stops and open/close doors and help motorman couple/uncouple cars. motorman operates the train

I don’t know about other systems but as far as CTA they combined the motorman and conductor position back in the 90’s and that position is known as “Operator”
