Yeah, Monterrey is not a turist place. It's the industrial capital of latin america, it is in fact the most industrialized city in Latin America, and also has the highest GDP per capita, which makes it the richest city in Latin America as far as I know... @@richdlaw Not exactly, the food in the north is a gastronomy that is based on cooking on charcoal we call it carne asada or cabrito al pastor, carne asada is beef meet made on the grill with charcoal, and cabrito al pastor is baby goat also made in charcoal just to give an example, also flour tortillas are as famous as tortillas made with corn, in the south flour tortillas are no that popular... the reality is that Mexico is made up of 32 states and each state has its own gastronomy, even the food can vary within the same state, that is, it can vary from city to city, in the southern states the gastronomy is more based on pre-Hispanic times, that is, in the time of the Aztecs and Mayans... greetings

My family from both my parents side are from the mountains in Monterrey. Last time I visited when I was like six years old, mountain people had cement houses, out houses and store shops in some of the houses called puestos, that were anywhere from convenience stores to meat markets or sandwich shops that sold tortas. I also remember the local shaman woman named Mariquita who cleansed our souls with incense, holy water and whole eggs used to absorb bad energy by rubbing them on you. The streets were underdeveloped and steep and rocky, and people slept on the roof during hot weather which was often constructed as a balcony roof. At night I could remember seeing the lights of the center of the Monterrey city.
