Riley Yes, his name was indeed written online as the actor who would play Alfred the Great. But it was revealed in the final episode of the fourth season that he was a bishop (actually a fanatically religious warrior monk) that goes by the name Heahmund. I don't know whether people were misled and accidentely wrote that he would play Alfred or a change was made in the cast, but whatever the case might be, he is now the Anglo-saxon warrior monk Heahmund. A much younger actor will play the role of Alfred.

Fuck that disappoints me heaps, especially considering he was probably some historically obsolete bishop (if he even existed). Would have been awesome to see him play Alfred

Dane Haigh If I recall correctly, these warrior monks did exist and the creator of the series Michael Hirst said that there was indeed a member called Heahmund. I believe you can find an article on wikipedia about him, although I doubt it says anything about their so called christian order.
